Manchester United want to strengthen the spine of the team in the summer with a new centre back, central midfielder and striker.

United’s midfield options for the summer transfer window are believed to include Declan Rice, Kalvin Phillips, Ruben Neves, Yves Bissouma, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Aurelien Tchouameni.

With a replacement needed for Edinson Cavani — and possibly Cristiano Ronaldo — it is thought United could make a move for Harry Kane or Darwin Nunez.

The first picture is Manchester United when they were 2-0 down against Liverpool, whereas the second is from the 13th minute against Tottenham. Thanks to the annotations on these pictures from the insightful , you can clearly see an openness and lack of structure a week ago vs a much better defensive set up.

Whilst the formational shift and the reintroduction of Raphael Varane helped Manchester United to keep a clean sheet, they were far better organised which suggests to me that internal, clear the air talks and a very tough week will have benefited Manchester United.

We can only see what happens in the next couple of matches. Sometimes, you have to go to rock bottom in order to get even higher at the top - take a step back in order to take some steps forward.

I’d imagine United will try and sort out the defence and get confidence back that we can clean sheets before looking at anything else. That’s got to be priority number one. Even though Spurs were terrible, the structure against them was very impressive.
