GROWING IN FAITH

In 2 Thessalonians 1:3 (KJV) Apostle Paul wrote: "We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is meet, because that your faith groweth exceedingly, and the charity of every one of you all toward each other aboundeth."

Apostle Paul commended the Thessalonian Brethren for two things. One of such was the exceeding growth in their faith. So, we learn from there that faith grows.

When we believe that Jesus is Christ and accept him as our Lord, we become born again and born of God (1 John 5:1, John 3:3). In the physical world, after we are born, we must increase in size and develop psychologically to fulfil our destiny. In like manner, we have to grow spiritually in faith after we have been born again.

Faith is a belief in the unseen. Hebrews 11:1 calls it the substance of things hoped for, and the evidence things not seen. So faith is the title deed that a believer has to whatever he desires from God. God respects it, Satan submits to it.

But, how do we increase our faith since we know that faith grows?
1. Believe strongly that faith grows and expect your own to grow. Expectation is a key factor in getting anything to increase.
2. Remove doubts from your dictionary. In Mark 11:23-24, Jesus said if you ask anything and you doubt not, you will receive what you ask. When we ask and receive at all times, our faith will soar.
3. Pray to God to give you the spirit of faith. In 1 Cor 12:7 & 9, it is written: "But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal." Faith was mentioned as one the spirits in verse 9.
4. Devote time to study and meditate on the word. In 2 Timothy 2:15 (KJV) Apostle Paul admonished Timothy, saying:"Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." Word study and meditation is a primary source of growing our faith and of impartation of the spirit of faith.
5. Take delight in listening to the gospel messages and testimonies. Testimonies showcase what God has done. They encourage our faith to grow. In John 4:1-30, those who heard the testimony of the woman Jesus met at the well immediately believed Jesus. Romans 10:17 tells us that faith comes from hearing the word of God.
6. Ensure you act on the word of God as ocassion presents itself. Don't be afraid to declare the word to the devil in the name of Jesus (Mark 16:17), and to lay hands on the sick and afflicted. Hebrews 4:2 (KJV) says: "For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it." And James 2:17 (KJV) says: "Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone." The more you put your faith to work and see results, the more your faith will grow.
7. Fellowship regularly privately and with other believers. Proverbs 27:17 says: "Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend." And Hebrews 10:25 admonished us not to forsake the assembly of brethren, but to exhort one another.
8. Pray always. The altar of prayer is the altar of impartation. The more you pray, the more your faith grows.

Brethren, faith grows, and it is our responsibility to work on it to grow. If our faith does not grow, we remain baby Christians, which is not to our advantage. If we put the eight points above to work, our faith will soar.

God bless you. Have a blessed Palm Sunday evening.

Believe in the Light and Win.

Jesus speaking in John 12:36 (KJV) said to his disciples: "While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light." In John 1:4-5 (KJV) Apostle John speaking of Jesus said: "In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not." And in John 6:63 (KJV) Jesus said: "the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life."

When John said in Jesus was the life and that life is the light of men, and Jesus said the words I speak unto you are life, we can correctly infer that the word of God is the life in Jesus which gives light. In other words, the word of God and light are one and the same. So when Jesus said, believe in the light that you may be children of light, he was asking them to dwell in the word and trust it. Dwelling and trusting in the word is the only way to deal with darkness. That was why John said, "And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not."

We live in a world that is engulfed in darkness. As humans, we are perpetually surrounded by darkness in the form of fear, doubts, and temptations. When we succumb to these, then we have been overcome: comprehended by darkness.

However, we are called to dwell in the light as an antidote to being overwhelmed by darkness. This light of God comes by knowledge, wisdom, revelations, faith, and trust,. All these we get through the word of God, which is the wisdom of God. No wonder, the Psalmist said in Proverbs 4:7 (KJV): "Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get
understanding." Understanding in this context means the capacity for rational thoughts, inference or discrimination. So, when we read the word of God we have to apply our minds and draw its consistency with the truth, take decisions and act in the light of the truth we find.

In conclusion, while we are constantly surrounded by darkness in this world, we need the light from the word of God to overcome. Darkness comes in the forms of doubts, fear, and temptstions to act contrary to God's will. Light comes in the forms of knowledge wisdom and revelations. This light helps us to act on consistence with the will of God. The more light we have, the more victories we have over doubts, fears and temptations. On the other hand the less light we have the less victories we get. I pray for someone that God blesses these words in your heart and causes it to minister the truth, salvation and freedom from temptations. You are blessed. Jesus is the Answer.

PRAY AND BE PATIENT

Prayer and patience is a necessity for our Christian walk with God. In most cases God delivers in piece meals. In Exodus 23: 28-30, God said to Isreal: "And I will send hornets before thee, which shall drive out the Hivite, the Canaanite, and the Hittite, from before thee. I will not drive them out from before thee in one year; lest the land become desolate, and the beast of the field multiply against thee. By little and little I will drive them out from before thee, until thou be increased, and inherit the land."

The reason God gave for piece meal victory for Isreal is to allow them time to increase in capacity to take full control of the land. The same principle is what God applies in our walk with him. He gives us victory in stages; one after another, even when he has the capacity to deliver in one fell swoop.

Imagine what will happen if we have no issues whatsoever in our lives. We will become so complacent; we will never pray, we will not even try to know God, we will not increase our spiritual capacity, and above all we will have little or no regard for God.

So that situation you are facing, is actually the cross designed to help you increase in your spiritual capacity. God has the capacity to resolve all your issues in a minute. But if he does, you will sooner than later be consumed because you lack capacity to withstand further challenges. We are refined in the crucible of challenges. In Isaiah 48:10, God says: "Behold, I have refined thee, but not with silver; I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction."

So that situation you are facing, be rest assured that God is with you. However, he wants you to learn some things and increase your spiritual capacity. Not just for the present predicament but for the future challenges. So don't give up and don't think you are alone in it. Be patient and persist in prayers. The more you increase in capacity via prayers and the word,, the faster you get answers to your prayers. 2 Peter 1:2-3 says: "Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord, According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:"
From that Scripture we understand that grace and peace are multiplied unto us, and that all things that pertain to life and godliness are given to us through the knowledge of God. I can testify to you that the more you increase in your knowledge of God the Father, Jesus and the Holy Spirit, the more and easier the victories you will enjoy. Our laziness in studying the Bible and in prayers are the reasons we stay long in affliction.

Kingdom Heirs, if affliction will not be prolonged; if affliction will not arise a second time, we must increase our knowledge of God Head (Father, Son and the Holy Spirit) through the word and via daily prayers.

I wish all of us Merry Christmas. Jesus is the Answer.

Two things working together will definitely make our Christian life distinctive, rewarding and impactful. They are grace and faith. While Grace is from God, a man must exercise faith to recieve grace from God. Without faith, grace cannot manifest. I pray for you today, as a Kingdom Heir, that you be endued with the Spirit of faith and become an impactful Christian. Halleluyah.

YOUR FAITH IS YOUR VICTORY

In 1 John 5:1,4 it is written: "Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him.
For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?"

These two verses contain three profound truths as follows:

1. Once you believe that Jesus is the Christ, you become born of God; and therefore a child of God.
2. Once you are born of God, you become an overcomer;
3. Your overcoming power or victory is dependent on your faith.

If we were to summarise the three sentences into one, we can put it this way: When a person believes that Jesus is the Christ, he becomes a child of God with potential power for victories over the wickedness of the world as determined by his faith.

Faith is so important in our Christain life that Hebrews 11:6 says: "But without faith it is impossible to please him(God): for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him." The Christian journey of faith begins in having believing that God exists, and having the conviction that God rewards those deligently seek him. Anyone who does not have faith in these two areas, cannot have faith at other levels. It is indeed impossible. It is your faith in God and what he can do that propels you to develop faith in Jesus Christ and in the Holy Spirit, and even in the angels.

Faith, simply put, is to have strong and unwavering confidence in God His words and what he can do. Every of our victories depends on the level of our faith. The stronger our faith, the more victories we enjoy. The weaker our faith the more defeat you suffer.

Kingdom Heirs, let us try to build very strong faith, knowing full well that the stronger our faith, the more we overcome. Always bear in mind that Jesus is the answer.

BE CAREFUL LEST YOU BECOME A REBEL

The Dictionary defines rebellion as "refusal to accept authority, or an organised opposition to authority." A rebel is on one who refuses to accept an authority placed over him, or one who organises opposition to a constituted authority. In Romans 13:1 Apostle Paul wrote: "Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers (authority). For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God." Apostle Paul was referring to earthly authorities, not heavenly. Every authority, he said is ordained by God. That accords with the common belief that it is God that gives position and power. Paul went further to say that those who resist authority, does so to their own damnation.

Samuel the Prophet, said to King Saul in 1 Samuel 15:23-25 "For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king." So when a person is in authority, irrespective of his age and size, or even how he came there, we are duty bound to defer to his/her authority. We may dislike his person, but we will not be right to reject his authority or to organise an opposition against it. Saul was King over Israel, but Samuel operating in his sphere of authority, not as an individual, could look at him in the face and said to him you are in error. That is the nature of authority. Authority, they say, is mightier than power.

"And Saul said unto Samuel, I have sinned: for I have transgressed the commandment of the LORD." Note that Saul recognised that Samuel, though younger in age, was holding the authority of God. Every authority has a source. If you refuse to accept that authority, you not only reject the precursor of the authority, you also reject and offend the source of that authority irrespective of your reasons. That was why Paul said, that he had transgressed the commandment of the LORD, not that of Samuel. Saul had a reason for what he did - he feared the people, and obeyed their voice. But that did not matter. And Saul realising his mistake tendered apology, saying: "Now therefore, I pray thee, pardon my sin, and turn again with me, that I may worship the LORD." That is humility. We all ,fall into error from time to time, but we need like Saul, to humble ourselves before the authority when we realise our mistake. Failure to do that is nothing but pride and arrogance. Even Jesus admonished us to make peace with the enemy while on the way to the court (Matthew 5:25; Luke 12:58). That is wisdom. And Ecclesiastes tells us that wisdom is profitable to direct.

No matter how, for instance, Atiku and Obi, as well as their followers doubt the authenticity of the election that produce Tinubu as a President, they cannot afford to become lawless. If for instance they refuse to pay taxes, or even begin to drive one way on our highways because they don't believe he was properly elected, they have the authorities of the state to contend with. That is why they can only go to the Court of Law to seek redress.

Moshood Abiola of blessed memory got the mandate of Nigerians to be their president in the 1993 election. But the powers that be refused to give him the mandate. He was right to say "give me my mandate." But he was wrong to try to take it by force. When he did the state descended on him and the rest is history. Wisdom is profitable to direct.

Apostle Paul's admonition in Romans 13:1-8 is quite instructive to all believers. He said: "Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation. For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same: For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.
Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake. For for this cause pay ye tribute also: for they are God's ministers, attending continually upon this very thing. Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour is due. Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law."

That is the position of God with regard to obedience to authority. Are those in authority always right? Not at all. Do we have right to register our disapproval to their actions? Very well. But going to the extreme is tantamount to rebellion. After we register our protest and they continue on their path and refuse to listen, then we leave them to their fate. By so doing we would have handed them over to God. It is then left for God to judge their actions. And God will not fail to punish if they are wrong. That is the faith we have in God as believers. After all, our weapons of warfare are not carnal but mighty through God (2 Cor 10:4). As true believers we should resist the temption to fight in the flesh. Fleshy fight can never give better results than fights in the spirit. When we fight in the flesh, most often it is out of pride. James 4:6 tells us that: "God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace to the humble. Our power is in humility and the grace that God gives us. I have fought so many battles in my life. But I fight them quietly and God has never disappointed me.

Kingdom Heirs, let us be careful in our ways. It is dangerous to be a rebel. The Devil cashes in on our weaknesses to rob us. Wisdom is profitable to direct. Let us cash in on the wisdom of God. He never fails.

HIS BLOOD: YOUR RECEIPT FOR SALVATION AND VICTORY

I was having quiet time a few days ago when suddenly it began to register in my consciousness: that the blood of Jesus is the believers receipt for salvation. Then began to flow, in my spirit, some ministrations in form of questions: "Have you ever gone to a mall or shop to buy something and you were issued with a receipt? If you showed that receipt to a security man at the gate would he stop you or mo**st you? Will he not allow you to go freely? Have the police ever stopped you to ask for the receipt of what you were carrying in a bag or in the car? When you showed them the receipt, did they hold you or did they allow you to go? Then He said to me, no one mo**stes you when you have a genuine receipt of purchase for a product. Your Salvation is a product that has been paid for. The blood of Jesus is the receipt for your salvation and victory."

The importance of a receipt is well known. When you pay for a product or service the seller or vendor gives you a receipt as evidence that you have paid. That receipt apart from giving the possessor the right to take the product away or to ask for the service, also absorbs the possessor of any harassment by security forces. If the product is not immediately taken away, and the purchaser gives the receipt to another person, the holder of the receipt has right to the product or service and can present it at the shop and it will be acknowledged. Whenever that receipt is presented, irrespective of the date on it, the holder is accorded the right to have the product, and will be free from mo**station by agents of the state. That receipt is a token that signifies ownership.

In Exodus, Chapter 12, God instructed Moses and Aaron to instruct the Israelites to kill a lamb and strike the blood on the upper and two side posts of their doors. This He said, shall be a token unto their houses and the plague shall not enter. In other words, the evil spirit bearing the plague shall see the blood of the covenant, the receipt of purchase of Isreal by God and shall pass over (Exodus 12:1-13).

Jesus is described as the Lamb of God. He offered his life and spilled his blood to purchase us. In three verses of the New Testament - 2 Corinthians 6:20; 7:23 and 2Peter 2:1 Apostle Paul makes it clear that we were bought with a price. In Ephesians 1:14 he referred to believers as "purchased possessions" that shall be redeemed unto the praise of God's glory. Every believer has been purchased by God. And God paid for our salvation and victory with the life of his only Begotten Son, Jesus.

God purchased us to be redeemed unto his glory. In the spirit realm we have been purchased from the powers of darkness and have been translated into the Kingdom of light (Collosians 1:13). However, only those who have that consciousness actually reap the benefits to the full. We have to know and be very conscious of the fact that God paid for our salvation with the life Jesus.

And the Bible tells us that the life of an animal (including man) is in its blood. So when Jesus died on the cross at Calvary God paid for our salvation with his life and gave us the blood as evidence (receipt). The significance of that is that like the blood of the lambs which exempted the children of Israel from the plague at Egypt, the blood of Jesus exempts us from the manipulative influences of the devils. That is why Revelation 12:11 says: "And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death." Meaning that because they (believers), love their lives, and desire to live they run under the blood. And by confessing Jesus and the blood they overpower the enemy. That is my understanding and it has been working.

Kingdom Heirs, you were purchased at a great price and you have a powerful receipt for your purchase. You were bought with the highest of all prices ever paid for any product or service. Flaunt it proudly and display it conspicously before the devil. Show it to him boldly whenever he tries to question your right to good health, your right to rise above oppression, right to escape from captivity, your right to riches and wealth, etc. Take note that if you don't act boldly with faith before the adversary, he will outsmart you. The blood is your receipt for salvation and victory. Use it to great advantage. Jesus is the answer.

ALWAYS SEE YOUR WORDS AS PROPHESIES.

Often times we assume that only the words which came directly from God to us, or from Prophets to us are the only prophecies. This idea or belief has made so many Christians to utter words carelessly without regard to their spiritual imports. Unfortunately, every word has spiritual import. Jesus said in John 6:63-64: "It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. But there are some of you that believe not."

By that Jesus made it clear that words are spirits. And as spirits, they quicken. To quicken is to cause something to move faster, make something keen or more acute, give life or energy to something, or cause something to show signs of life or have life. All these are what our words can do, if spoken right. Words are also capable of producing the opposites of the above. In other words, words can also slow down or reduce speed, make things less keen, or less acute, deny or destroy life, reduce or destroy energy, stop progress, etc.

In support of the above assertion, Proverbs 18:21 says: "Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof." The fruit of the power of the tongue can be positive or negative. Whichever dimension you love, you will definitely eat the fruit thereof.

The challenge therefore is for us as believers to decide to be steadfast in speaking positive things into our lives at all times. We must realise that each time we speak we are prophecising. And the more positive things we speak about our life and circumstances, the more of the good fruits of the tongue we will enjoy. We are always creating the life we desire - positive or negative with the words of our mouth.

Many people have destroyed their lives by speaking negative about themselves, their marriage, their finance, their business, their children, their health, their career, etc. Let us learn to be disciplined in the use of words. Let us be conscious of the power of our words at all times.

Kingdom heirs, if any do not have that consciousness, let him try and develop it. The more conscious a man is by speaking positive things into his life and the life of people around him, the better his life will be.

Being disciplined with words also involves being disciplined with your thoughts ..."for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh" (Matthew 12:34",). Again it is written: "For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: "(Proverbs 23:7). The Scripture also says in Proverbs 4:23 says: "Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life."

Let us also not forget the words of Jesus in Mark 11:23, when he said: "For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith." What are you saying with your mouth? Child of God, I dont know the mountain before you. I also do not know what you desire. But I know that our challenges and desires are different, and could be many. Whatever, it is, speak to it by faith. Say something positive. Prophecise to your health, your finances, your career, your marriage, your career, your womb, your brain, your heart, your internal organs, your desires, etc. Don't keep quiet. Ensure you speak positive things to them always. Avoid negative words and confessions at all cost. Know this, friends, that everthing hears. If they heard God's words at creation, they will continue to hear till eternity. Jesus is the Answer.

Prayers That Get Answers

Everybody prays, but not every one gets answer. If your desire is to always have answers to your prayers you must read this series.

James said: Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up..... The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much." (James 5:14-16)

From Apostle James we learn that there are four conditions for answered prayers. They are faith, effectuality, fervency, and righteousness. We will touch on two in this episode. The other two we will discuss later.
1. Faith. Almost every that opens his mouth to pray fulfills this requirement. Before anyone opens his/her mouth in prayer it is because he/she believes there is a God that will answer. However, there are different levels of faith. The bigger, or higher the level of your faith the quicker you get answers. Faith requires that you don't entertain any iota of doubt about receiving what you asked for.

2. Effectually. It must be effectual. To be effectual is to have a legal force and a striking effect. Just like you don't go before a judge in court and just say anything and expect to win your case. To win, you must quote the law and quote cases. In the same way, when you come before God in prayers you must give him valid reasons to answer you. For your prayer to have a legal force you must remind God what he has said about the situation. You have to quote at lease one verse and cite one or more Bible cases. Bible case are examples of people and instances where God's words have produced results. This requires serious, not casual effort.

For you to win before God you must pray word-based prayers. Word-based prayers appeal to God's integrity as expressed in Isaiah 55:10 & 11. Please reade that passage.

Next time we will talk about fervency and righteousness with regard to prayers. Always believe that Jesus is the answer.
