We are thrilled to have Dr. Bernhards Ragama Ogutu as our keynote speaker at the 5th edition of The Clinical Investigators Summit Africa!!🔔
Dr. Bernhards Ragama Ogutu is a Kenyan paediatrician and a clinical pharmacologist. A senior principal clinical scientist with the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) and the scientific team leader of the Centre for Research in Therapeutic Sciences (CREATES)- Strathmore University.
Dr. Ogutu received MBChB, MMed and PhD from the University of Nairobi and is a certified Physician Investigator.
Dr. Ogutu has held different positions since 1992 from practicing paediatrics at several hospitals and lead clinical trialist in a number of product evaluation protocols.
His areas of research include clinical trials, disease pathogenesis, clinical therapeutics with a bias in malaria and clinical trials capacity development in Africa.

Roseanne Onyia is the founder and CEO of Clinique Research Development Limited and Convener of “The Clinical Investigators’ Summit (TCIS) AFRICA”.
She is a Clinical Research professional with 17 years’ experience working in the clinical research field.
Her background as a Respiratory Care Practitioner, managing patients with respiratory health challenges, led to her first employment working on a respiratory therapeutic study.
She has the privilege to have worked with pharma’s and CROs in and outside the African
continent.
She established Clinique Research with the purpose of drawing attention to the potential that Africa holds in the field of drug discovery and the ongoing efforts of research sites across the continent, aimed at establishing themselves as dependable partners,fostering a sense of confidence and comfort for sponsors and pharmaceutical organisations, seeking collaboration through The Principal Investigators Forum (PI Forum).
Furthermore, she possesses deep knowledge of West African regulatory affairs and has
provided invaluable assistance to sponsors on fact-finding missions, supplying critical information necessary for decision-making. Her dedication to fostering research in Africa culminated in the establishment of The Clinical Investigators Summit (TCIS AFRICA), which stands as the largest assembly of clinical researchers, CROs, pharmaceutical companies, vendors and regulatory agencies in Africa.

We are thrilled to have Dr. Mohamed Hashem speak at The Clinical Investigators’ Summit (TCIS) Africa 2024.🔔
Dr. Mohamed Hashem is the Director of the Clinical Research Centre (CRC) at the Children’s Cancer Hospital 57357 (CCHE-57357) Egypt.
The Faculty of Medicine at Cairo University awarded him a medical degree as well as a master’s in general paediatrics.
He completed a second general paediatric residency at St. Vincent’s Medical Care Centre, NY, USA, and a fellowship in paediatric infectious diseases at the University of Rochester Medical Centre, Rochester, NY.
After completing his fellowship, he joined the University of Maryland School of Medicine, Department of Epidemiology and Public Health, as an Assistant Professor.
He conducted NIH-funded research on the epidemiology of hepatitis infections, particularly hepatitis C virus (HCV) infections, in Egypt. He studied the incidence, prevalence, and risk factors of HCV in pregnant women and their children, as well as the immune responses that affect vertical transmission and the persistence of infection.
His research interests includes: Conducting patient-oriented clinical research (observational and interventional studies) with a particular interest in clinical epidemiology of infectious diseases in general and the immunocompromised host, focusing on opportunistic infections.

Heba Hashem has been working in regulatory affairs and clinical trials in the Middle East and African countries for over 25 years.
She has a pharmaceutical and business background. She is a graduate of the Faculty of Pharmacy from Cairo University, RAC-Certified, in addition to an MBA from Maastricht School of Business.
Heba Hashem has headed the position of Middle East Africa Regulatory and Quality at different pharmaceutical and medical device companies; including Novo Nordisk, Bayer, and Gambro.
She is currently the Regulatory Affairs Associate - Director of Clinical Research at PPD, where she is providing regulatory affairs and clinical trials services and training to healthcare companies with a focus on the Middle East and African countries.

His experience covers the entire life cycle of medical product development from basic, preclinical, interventional clinical research (phase I – IV), non-interventional clinical research, and post-marketing studies leveraging them with standard healthcare systems.
He is currently an independent clinical research, regulatory affairs, and digital medicine consultant. He has held influential roles, including Senior Vice President at ICON plc, where he led Decentralized Clinical Trials (DCTs) and Digital Medicine strategies.
He made significant contributions as a Food and Drug Administration (FDA), CDER Senior Officer, leading work on modernizing clinical research through DCTs and Digital Health Technologies.
He is a board member of BlueCloud by HealthCarePoint and the Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Association (HCMA). He serves as a Regulatory Science Editor at the DIA Global Forum Magazine.
He is a co-chair for the IEEE-SA Clinical Trial Technology Modernization Network, shaping the development of technical standards for the industry to modernize clinical research using digital health technologies.
His academic background includes a PhD in Virology and Immunology, an MS in Microbiology, an MHS in Clinical Research, and a BS in Biology. With post-doctoral specialty training in Infectious Diseases, Viral Immunology, Viral Oncology, and Clinical Research, he has authored 60+ scientific publications and presented at over 151 global conferences

Dr. Ian Mugisa joined the Uganda National Drug Authority (NDA) in 2018. He is registered as a specialist with the Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioner’s Council (UMDPC).
He works in the clinical trials unit and the pharmacovigilance unit of the NDA. Both of these units are under the Directorate of Product Safety.
He is an experienced clinical trials reviewer and a Good Clinical Practice (GCP) inspector.
He has contributed to the NDA clinical trials guidelines as well as the amendment of the regulations.
He supports the assessment of ICSRs, RMPs, PSURs, and medication errors in the pharmacovigilance unit.

Nyeleti Bicky Mthombeni is the Founder of Afrileadtech Research PTY, the School of Clinical Research, and Khomanani Health Research Centre, based in South Africa. The school offers GCP training and a four-month clinical research masterclass.
Nyeleti has over 18 years of diverse experience in the clinical trials field. She has held various management positions, from Clinical Research Associate (CRA) to Project Operations Director. Her extensive expertise in clinical trial operations includes roles as Local Clinical Trial Manager and Regional Study Manager, managing studies across Asia and Europe.
Nyeleti’s dedication to clinical trial advocacy led her to join the South African Clinical Research Association (SACRA) in 2019, where she served as Chairperson from 2021 to November 2023. Under her leadership, SACRA significantly impacted clinical trial operations in South Africa. During her term, she founded the annual celebration of International Clinical Trials Day from 2021 to 2023 and was crucial in organizing the SACRA conference in 2023.
She is currently working with other African Clinical Research Association (ACRA) representatives to build an alliance for clinical trial stakeholders in Africa.
Her academic qualifications are a testament to her dedication and passion for research. She holds a Master’s in Project Management and a Master’s in Pharmacology. She is currently in the final stage of her Ph.D., which is focused on post-trial care for research participants.
Nyeleti’s extensive experience and passion for research are evident and also reflect her commitment to excellence and growth in the clinical research industry.

Dr. Fatma Ebeid is a Professor of Pediatric Hematology, Oncology, and BMT with almost twenty years of experience in the field of one of the largest referral centers in Egypt/Africa and the MENA region.
Dr. Fatma Ebeid is responsible for the management of children and young adults with hematological and oncological disorders.
She assisted in the establishment of the Ain Sham University (ASU)’s first child BMT facility in December 2005, and she currently oversees the SCD clinic, where she installed the nation’s first automated erythrocytapheresis centre.
She has a special interest in inherited anemia and bone marrow failure disorders, especially Sickle Cell Disease (SCD).
Dr. Ebeid is the Executive Director of the Faculty of Medicine Ain Shams Research Institute-Clinical Research Center (MASRI-CRC). She designed the SOPs for MASRI-CRC, which regulate clinical research in the faculty of medicine at Ain Shams University, as well as all the faculties and institutes affiliated with ASU.
Dr. Ebeid has had experience in international clinical trials since 2007, and has participated in around thirty international multicenter clinical trials, various academic projects, and investigator-initiated clinical research. She has various international and national scientific publications. She is also a member of national and international professional bodies, and research groups, and has collaborated with many national and international academic parties and non-profit organizations.

Mona Yehia is the Director of Regulatory and Start-up at PDC CRO. Her role encompasses overseeing the operational aspects related to the initiation of clinical trials and ensuring strict adherence to all applicable regulations and study-specific requirements. She is responsible for ensuring that research sites possess the regulatory approvals necessary to commence the trial.
Mona Yehia has over 10 years of clinical research experience and has acquired extensive experience in a wide range of therapeutic areas, including oncology, haematology, neurology, gene therapy, rare diseases, and internal medicine. Her career encompassed all phases of clinical trials, from Phase I through Phase IV.
Additionally, she has actively participated in the management of disease registries and the facilitation of drug registrations across both the African continent and the MENA region.

We are thrilled to announce that Dr. Obaro Michael will be speaking at The Clinical Investigators Summit Africa 2024!🔔
Dr. Obaro Michael is a Senior Lecturer in the department of pharmacology and therapeutics, Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, College of Medicine, University of Ibadan and a Consultant Clinical Pharmacologist at the University College Hospital, Ibadan.
He is also an adjunct lecturer at the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Ibadan. He is a fellow of the National Postgraduate Medical College, Nigeria. He was appointed the Deputy Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee for Research and Ethics, of the University College Hospital, Ibadan, on the 1st of July, 2021.
Dr. Michael has several decades of clinical research and clinical trial experience. He has taught the design of clinical trials to undergraduate and postgraduate students in several disciplines of the health sciences. In 2007, he was the best student at the African Malaria Network and Malaria Clinical Trials Alliance (AMANET/INDEPTH-MCTA) Good Clinical Practice (GCP) for Investigators Training Workshop in Maputo, Mozambique. He has participated in over 25 clinical trials as a Principal Investigator (PI) or a co-PI. In 2015, he won the Thomas Bassir Biomedical Foundation seed grant program.
Dr. Michael is a member of the Nigerian Medical Association, the Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria, and the immediate past treasurer of the Nigerian Society for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics. He is presently the Deputy Editorial Consultant of the Annals of Ibadan Postgraduate Medicine, the PUBMED-indexed journal of the Association of Resident Doctors, UCH.

Today, we celebrate the groundbreaking work of James Lind, born on the 4th of October 1716, a Scottish physician and pioneer of naval hygiene in the Royal Navy who conducted the first controlled clinical trial and successfully found a cure for Scurvy.
This discovery established the framework for modern clinical research, highlighting the critical role of clinical trials in advancing medical knowledge and improving patient care.
