Neem as a Avenue tree
Rapid industrialization, urbanization, and congestion of population in most part of the world, are giving rise to pollution caused by emission of gases such as carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide and nitrous oxide which may play havoc with the human population.
Neem tree has capacity to survive in adverse conditions as well it absorb some of the environmental gaseous pollutants. In Indian culture, Neem has been referred as an “air purifier”. Planting Neem tree as an avenue tree in thickly populated areas will help to clean the air. It act as an “air freshener” by releasing more oxygen and mild odorous principles.
Temperature under and around a full grown Neem tree is 10 degrees less than the surrounding. Planting Neem tree as a avenue tree will also help in reducing the atmospheric temperature. In India since ancient time Neem tree is planted around the houses and on the both sides of the road.
