Brief History and dream For Emo James.

Meet Bayelsa United forward who dreams to play for Manchester United

Yenagoa—Emo James is a versatile football player who hails from Azuzuama in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

Growing up, he competed in several friendly matches, including communal football tournaments.

His quest and journey to become a professional football player were by no means smooth: it was a struggle punctuated with highs and lows.

In an interview with Mangrovepen.ng, James recounted how he struggled to earn his first professional contract with Bayelsa United FC.

According to him, "I started from Samson Siasia Sports Academy in Uyo as a trialist for six months.

"Afterwards, I was invited and had my first trial with Bayelsa United for a year, but it didn't go well as planned.

"I then went back to playing street and communal football and what have you.

"Fast forward to 2019, I was called again for a trial with Bayelsa United; this time it was successful. It didn't take long for me to make my professional debut for the club and started featuring in matches."

James, who just turned 21 on Sunday, 1st August 2021, said he can play the three forward positions on the field.

According to him, he plays as a center-forward, a left-winger, and also plays on the right-wing when the need arises.

"I can play three positions. I play the center-forward role, I can play on the right as well as on the left-wing.

"For example, in our last six games, I've played as the left-winger and that helped to make our game plan more effectively," he said.

The player who has been with Bayelsa United since 2019 is yet to win any trophy with the club.

But this is probably about to change when James and his team will square off against Nasarawa United in the Aiteo Cup final this Sunday in Benin, the Edo State capital.

This is Bayelsa United's first-ever Aiteo Cup final in history after beating Rivers United in the semi-final with a lone goal.

James believes the occasion would present him the chance to win his first-ever major trophy with the club.

When asked where he sees himself in the next five years, James said, "I will be in Europe plying my trade."

As a supporter of Manchester United, James dreams to play for the club, putting on its famous red jersey.

"I would particularly love to play for Manchester United because I'm a United fan," he said.

Although James is not where he aims to be in his career, he is not taking the progress he has made so far for granted.

"I am thankful to the management of Bayelsa United for finding me worthy to be a part of this great team," he said.

James equally advised youths to steer clear of crime, saying they should "find a passion and pursue it diligently."

He believes, that way, success is certain and the sky would be the limit.
