Today is the anniversary of the Institution of the Catholic Priesthood. A noble and precious gift to the Church and World. And unworthy they are, God found them worthy and entrusted it to them.

Over 120,000 Catholics have pledged to join the 9-month novena to Our Lady of Guadalupe organized by Cardinal Raymond Leo Burke, which started today, to pray for the conversion of hearts and the transformation of society. The novena will culminate in a Marian consecration on her feast day, December 12th, 2024.

All I have to say is to say thank you Lord Jesus for the Life of my Son as he is Plus 1 today, as you celebrate your birthday, I pray that the Lord we bless you, and keep you, The Lord make his face to shine upon you. Good evening venerable Rosarians. I trust your day went well. I would like to specially thank all those who attended the Diocesan Retreat at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Enwan. Indeed, it was a spirit filled retreat as there were inspiring talks and moments of rest, reflection and relaxation with lots of food to eat and having some left over. On the aspect of feeding, I wish to profoundly thank the Bishop, Most Rev. Dr. Gabriel G. Dunia, for making food stuff available for the retreat and accompanying us with his episcopal prayers and blessings. May God continue to bless and reward our Bishop. Amen. I would also like to thank the Parish Priest of St. Patrick, Enwan, Rev. Fr. Terence Egwaogie and his parishioners for the hospitality and conducive atmosphere given to the Rosarians. May God bless them all. I must thank the committee for a job well done. Although, the population was scanty because of so many factors but thank God we took the Gospel to Akoko Edo. I must specially thank God for granting us safe journey all through the event. Our presence in Enwan made a great impression on the parishioners as Rosaries were distributed to them. May God continue to bless us all. Amen.

ASH WEDNESDAY HOMILY, YEAR B (READINGS: JOEL 2:12-18, PSALM 51, 2 CORINTHIANS 5:20-6:2, MATTHEW 6:1-6, 16-18)
THEME: “EMBRACING A HUMBLE AND REPENTANT HEART”
Today, we observe Ash Wednesday, a tradition rooted in ancient Jewish acts of penance and fasting. This day serves as a poignant reminder of our mortality and the imperative of reconciling with God for Christians. It signals the onset of Lent, a period spanning nearly seven weeks leading us to contemplate the suffering and crucifixion of Jesus Christ. This season encourages us: To Seek Forgiveness: The Church calls its members to focus on repentance during Lent. Historically, sorrow, humility, and repentance were symbolized by wearing ashes or sitting amongst them. This act signifies a public expression of inner turmoil. Job turned to dust and ashes in repentance (Job 42:6), and the New Testament mentions ashes as symbols of sorrow and repentance (Matt. 11:21). Adopting this tradition, the Church marks the start of Lent with ashes, reminding us of our finite nature and urging us to lament our sins. As 2 Corinthians 5:21 urges, let us reconcile with God, for Christ took on sin for our redemption, enabling us to embody God’s righteousness. To enrich our Lenten journey, the Church highlights three foundational practices: prayer, fasting, and almsgiving.
1.Through Prayer: We connect with God, glorifying His name and seeking the sanctification of humanity. Unlike the hypocrites who seek human admiration, we should pray in private, where God sees and rewards us in secret (Matthew 6:6-7).
2.By Fasting: We distance ourselves from worldly desires, preparing our souls for Christ. “Return to me with all your heart, with fasting, weeping, and mourning; and rend your hearts, not your garments” (Joel 2:12), God beckons. St. Augustine emphasizes that fasting cleanses the soul, lifts the spirit, prioritizes spiritual over physical desires, fosters humility, dissipates lustful thoughts, and ignites spiritual purity.
