Psalms 119:128 (KJV)

‘’Therefore I esteem all thy precepts concerning all things to be right; and I hate every false way’’.

In life we all have our own opinions and views about almost everything and these opinions are usually products of our upbringing, environments, cultures, education, or experiences and so on. These opinions become our mindset and these mindsets color our views and perception of life and consequently determine our responses to situations, our experiences and ultimately our outcome in life.


In the opening verse, we see the humility of David. He said he esteemed the precepts or commandments or word of God concerning all things to be right. In other words, as far as David was concerned God's opinion or will concerning every subject was correct and hence had become his own wisdom. What a man! No wonder he was so successful!!

You see, any man who exalts his opinions above the counsel of the word of God is a proud man. And the Bible says “God resists the proud and gives more grace to the humble”. A humble man is one who completely believes and submits himself wholly to the opinion of God as contained in his word. Because the word of God is the will of God. The word of God is the wisdom of God.

- Take up responsibilities in the house of God.

-You can’t hate the person you pray for.

- Forgiving is not for the persons good, it’s for your own good.

- Nobody can consistently work for a long time with God in hatred and envy.

Psalm 119:18 (KJV)
“Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law”.

This prayer by David is just so profound. This was a man that had it all. He had all the wealth, power, authority, influence, wives and properties. Yet his utmost desire as captured in the opening verse was to have his eyes opened to behold wondrous things out of the word of God. He was in essence praying for deeper revelation and insight into the word of God.

The King knows deep within himself that one could be reading the word and yet not be gleaning or gaining deep spiritual insight and revelation. And the depth of your insight determines the depth of power and light you function with. The depth of your insight determines the height of your manifestation.

The construction “wondrous things” is translated from one Hebrew word “Pala” which means “marvelous, wonderful, great or extraordinary”.

JUSTIFIED BY FAITH

Galatians 2:16 (KJV)
“Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified”.

Today, there are many people who are on an everlasting quest; a never ending journey seeking for acceptance with God. They hunger desperately to become righteous in the sight of God, Hence, they perform every ritual or religious activity they know hoping to attain righteousness or justification in the sight of God. How sad!

The word “justified” as used in the opening scripture is gotten from the Greek word “Dikaioō” which means to be rendered or pronounced righteous, innocent or free of guilt. Here the Apostle Paul clearly outlines by the spirit God's template for making men righteous. He said for by the works of the law (that is our good works of religious piety and moral uprightness) shall no flesh (no human) be justified (made righteous in the sight of God).

“Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word”.

I remember coming across this scripture many years ago, it was a "eureka"moment for me. I had found the secret to living an excellent life. The opening scripture encapsulates the secret of David's successful and excellent life.

Having lived victoriously through very tough experiences in life; He said “Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way?” In other words, “How can a young man live an excellent life? A life most devoid of mistakes”? How can a young man minimize his errors in life? Then he gives the answer, “by taking heed thereunto according to thy word”. Meaning that the secret to living an excellent life with little or no regrets, a life consistent with the will and purpose of God - the secret is paying attention to the word of God.

Psalm 119:9 (MSG) “How can a young person live a clean life? By carefully reading the map of your Word”. Wow! Meaning that the direction for your life at every point no matter how complex life may seem, the roadmap to success is in the word of God.
