PDP has no important strategy for governance in Osun β€” Ex-commissioner
5th December 2023

Mr Remi Omowaiye served as the Commissioner for Works and Transportation in the administration of former Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola. In this interview with BOLA BAMIGBOLA, the All Progressives Congress chieftain says Governor Ademola Adeleke’s one year in office was uneventful

*What have you been doing after your tenure as commissioner?*

I am an Executive Director in a company and I went back to my business after leaving the government.

I am not a full-time politician. I studied Electrical Engineering and I underwent training in more than 10 foreign countries. So, I simply went back to my job. I am a professional. I practice politics by the side.

*What is the situation in Osun APC currently regarding plans to re-organize the party?*

You will recall that the leader of the party, Adegboyega Oyetola, and other leaders set up Prof Isaac Adewole-led committee to look into how to restructure the party.

The committee has submitted its report and another committee has also been inaugurated to come up with a white paper. That committee is headed by former Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Timothy Owoeye.

So, we are at the point of rejigging the party. We have come up with different strategies to bring more people into the party and carry out reconciliation at various levels. We are prepared to take back the state come 2026. We are making all efforts to make sure we are in a good position to take up the leadership of the state in 2026.

*Has Governor Ademola Adeleke-led Peoples Democratic Party administration met your expectations so far* ?

It’s one year now since he has been in office and it is quite unfortunate we found ourselves in this situation. This is the worst governor we have ever had since the creation of the state.

*Is this position of yours not based on political differences?*

Without being political, people can see he is the worst governo

FG Gives Fresh N4.5bn Grant to Osun To Assist Citizens

The Tinubu-led Federal Government has extended a fresh N4.5billion to the Osun state government under the NG-Cares Programme.

The fund, coming after a similar N9billion palliative fund has been recently given to the state but which the Adeleke-government has failed to account for, is to take care of the poor and vulnerable citizens of the state who were adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and other economic and natural shocks.

The Osun state government has earlier in the year received N2.5billion NG-CARES fund. However, the civil society groups accused the state government of diverting it to solve mundane political purposes.

IMO: Oyetola holds bilateral talks with Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh, Brazil, Jamaica
..as Nigeria sets to sign MoU with Saudi Arabia

The minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, on Tuesday, continued bilateral discussions with ministers and representatives from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh, Brazil, and Jamaica, expressing Nigeria's government interest in learning from their knowledge and experiences.

This was revealed through his media aide, Ismail Omipidan, in a statement issued on Tuesday evening.

Recall that Oyetola, on Monday, held bilateral meetings with representatives of Greece, Qatar, and Mexico, on the sidelines of the ongoing 33rd General Assembly session of the International Maritime Organization, IMO, in London, United Kingdom.

During his meeting with the Brazilian Chief of the Navy's General Staff, Adm JosΓ© Augusto V. da Cunha de Menezes, the minister said Nigeria would want to learn from the operations of the Brazilian coast guards, as the ministry was desirous of setting up one to further secure the maritime space and the country's waterways.

Oyetola further noted that: "We want to also focus on sectors such as Marine Renewable Energy, Marine Mining, Subsea Cabling and Piping, Marine Genetics, and Biotechnology, to grow the marine and blue economy.

"As we continue to expand and develop the activities of the sector, there will be a need to deepen security architecture within the maritime space. In this regard, we are considering setting up Coast Guards and we believe that they will complement the existing security architecture to further secure our maritime space."

The minister while expressing Nigeria's desire to tap into technology to revolutionize the maritime sector, further said "Technology and innovation are vital for boosting Nigeria's trade and investment prospects within the Marine and Blue Economy. Advanced marine technologies, including innovations in maritime logistics and smart logistics solutions, will s

'Those who unleashed Adeleke on Osun did not mean well' - Omipidan

Ismail Omipidan, the former Chief Press Secretary to the immediate past Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, has described the one year in office of Governor Ademola Adeleke as a monumental failure underpinned on deceit, propaganda and fraudulent claims.

Similarly, he said it was ungodly to have forced Senator Adeleke on Osun, saying all those who collaborated to unleash him on Osun did not mean well for the future of the state.

Omipidan made the statements on Monday while featuring on a popular radio programme tagged 'The Issues' on Unique FM, Ilesa.

The former Political Editor of The Sun Newspaper who berated Adeleke for running a clannish government, said it had become obvious that the governor lacks the requisite knowledge, competence and capacity to administer the affairs of Osun as manifested in the monumental failure that envelopes every stratum of governance in the state.

Omipidan lamented what he described as imposition of Governor Adeleke on the good people of the state by his elder brother who knows that he (Adeleke) has nothing to offer the state let alone governing a sophisticated state like Osun.

"Every right thinking Osun person knows that our dear state doesn't deserve the kind of government that it currently has. Let us look at the antecedents, the elder brother of the Governor runs a conglomerate of businesses and for the years he has been running them, he didn't allow his younger brother (now Osun Governor) to man any of those businesses, meaning that he knows his younger brother has no capacity to run anything. For the brother (governor) has any capacity, he (the elder brother ) won't place him on a monthly allowance.

"Therefore, it is unfair and ungodly for him to have forced his brother on the state as a governor.

"Look at their statement, as released by the Governor's spokesperson, claiming that they have surpassed the expectations. The question to ask is, what

This was revealed by the minister's spokesperson, Ismail Omipidan , via his X handle.

Oyetola said with the charge from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to ministers to "unfailingly demonstrate innovative thinking and an unrelenting focus on results," the ministry of Marine and Blue Economy was set to position Nigeria as a premier maritime nation.

Roadmap: Oyetola meets Marine & Blue Economy stakeholders
..Says Indigenous ship owners will be supported

The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, CON, on Tuesday said the ministry is set to embrace the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) models to transform the sector.

He was quick to add that the initiative will not in anyway impede the growth of local players but rather provide an avenue for them to create and extract more value from the sector, especially through ship construction, maintenance, and repairs.

The Minister made these disclosures at the ministry's first Stakeholders' Roundtable Engagement on Advancing Sustainable Development in Nigeria's Marine and Blue Economy sector, held in Lagos.

According to the minister, the forum was convened to bring together players in the sector to discuss and chart a roadmap/direction that will advance the industry's potential, promote sustainable Blue Economy investments and ensure global competitiveness within the sector.

He noted that the model, a collaborative synergy between the private sector's efficiency and the public sector's oversight, will bring about transformative impact on the marine and blue economy as well as boost the creation of substantial job opportunities and the facilitation of increased trade and investment in the nation, reinforcing the ministry's collaborative and forward-looking approach.

Some areas of discussion at the Roundtable bothered on strengthening the Blue Governance; Transforming Port Operations; Enhancing Port Infrastructure; and Promoting Blue Economy Investments.

Oyetola said, "There is an urgent need for a collaborative effort to brainstorm and devise strategies to leverage our marine resources for the betterment of the economy and safety of our planet. It is imperative we come up with practicable ways of ensuring that our Inland Rivers, Lakes and Waterways are well utilised for cargo shipment and passenger transportation.
