Lafia Girls Day is in 2 days time

We are happy and a little bit tensed

But we are still open to more pad donations to cover our reach of 500 girls.

Nothing is too small and nothing is too big.

Lafia Girls Day 2023 Dignity Pack contains a Pack of sanitary pad, Shaver (shaving stick), toothbrush and a mild soap for v***a wash during their periods.

We had the opportunity to teach the difference between the v***a and the va**na.

The v***a is the outer layer of the va**na.

The v***a is the first place of contact

The v***a is where we wash and keep clean while the va**na secrete its purity acids.

Call it advocacy!

We either played one of these roles in educating adolescents girls in public schools on menstrual education.

So far, we have used education as a tool to teach these girls and arm them with knowledge and skills around Menstruation , personal hygiene, environmental hygiene and pregnancy so that they would lead a quality life.

Menstrual Education Policy Should Be Enacted — 5 Days To Go!
There should be an education policy that cares for the menstrual needs of girls.

We are using Lafia Girls Day as a tool to interact with Government officials here in Lafia. So that Menstruation will be well taught.

Lafia Girls Day is still open to partnerships and sponsorship.

As a menstrual health teacher, I have been able to educate over 300 girls on everything Menstruation, ovulation, pregnancy and even personal hygiene. I taught them how to use abstinence from s*x as a tool to not experiencing unplanned or unwanted pregnancy.

We also showed them tips on v***a care.

‘‘So far, we have been able to use hygiene and menstrual education to promote behavioral change in adolescent girls and cause parents and guardians to pay attention to the health and education needs of their girl child’’.

This will definitely be our testimony at the end of Lafia Girls Day!
Lafia Girls Day is a platform to interact with the parents and guardians of these girls first hand.

Diversity
In the course of this menstrual education tour, I Have been exposed to a diversity of languages and people from different backgrounds.

One of the experiences that is truly remarkable is when my name is being called out from a parent or a child here in Lafia.

Hahah!
It looked like no transformation was happening when this movement started, but I can happily say that the young girls I reached out to are now playing the rules of Menstruation and personal hygiene.

Lafia Girls Day is an event that will converge the schools I educated and the girls parents together. To finalize the event with a completion and a final lecture

I look forward to working with any organization or individual who is interested in such works.

It’s 9 days and we are super-stroked with anxiety and high expectations! .

Few days back, I reminisced about my school notes for this project. I came across a hand written question from one of the girls who anonymously asked if using tissue was a better option because pads were too expensive.

I had a hard time responding to this question but I actually did.
Menstrual products are expensive and truly, not everyone can consistently afford it.

With recycling in view, kudos to everyone looking towards finding and establishing sustainable menstrual products for women across the globe.

So yea,
I responded to the question but I wasn’t happy that she couldn’t afford quality products.

Teach Aisha and She will Learn!

Teach Amabasi and she will learn!

Teach Adaeze and she will learn!

Teach Adenike and she will learn!.

For it is only when they are taught that they can lead a quality life

Community
So far, we have been encouraging the community to support girls’ menstrual health because it is vital for creating a positive and inclusive environment.

In making Lafia Girls Day a success, we have been rallying together, to ensure that girls have access to menstrual products on the day and afterwards, proper sanitation facilities, and comprehensive education.

Honestly, supporting girls’ menstrual health promotes gender equality, enabling their education, and safeguards their overall well-being.

So Together, let’s break taboos, challenge stereotypes, and provide the necessary resources and support to empower girls in managing their periods with dignity and confidence.

MENSTRUAL HEALTH IN EDUCATION
The need for menstrual health support in schools is paramount for several reasons. Firstly, it ensures that girls can manage their periods hygienically, reducing the risk of infections and related health complications.

Secondly, it promotes gender equality by addressing the unique needs of girls and creating an inclusive educational environment.

Additionally, menstrual health support in schools enables girls to attend classes regularly, minimizing absenteeism and improving academic performance.

By providing access to menstrual products, proper sanitation facilities, and comprehensive education, schools play a crucial role in empowering girls and breaking the stigma surrounding menstruation.

𝗔𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗮 (𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗴𝗶𝗿𝗹 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁)
Dealing with menstrual cramps is something every woman has had to go through.
For Aisha - The head girl prefect), it came too often and made her skip classes because couldn’t bear the pain of Menstrual cramps.

On the day we taught them about menstrual cramps, Aisha boldly raised her hands in class and asked us how she could stop cramps during her periods.

It was quite touching how she explained the impact of menstrual cramps on her education.
Well, I asked her about her diet and what she always ate before and during her periods. I also asked her to politely have a conversation with her mum to know if it was hereditary.

Your guess is right, Aisha’s case wasn’t hereditary, her menstrual cramps were so high as a result of the good she ate.
The best part of 𝗟𝗮𝗳𝗶𝗮 𝗚𝗶𝗿𝗹𝘀 𝗗𝗮𝘆 will be to reach out to educate these girls parents on better diet options

500 GIRLS
One thing I learnt from someone truly amazing is, never be in a place without having your light shine.

As simple as this may sound, your light may just be your idea, your business, I’m your initiative, your personality or your energy.

For me in Lafia, it’s my initiative and personality. Knowing fully well that I grew from not knowing zero persons here in Lafia to knowing a lot of persons in a few months, I must say, it’s been a sprinkle of intentionality

Lafia Girls Day is in 14 days time and I sincerely look towards seeing the parents of the girls I thought of in these past weeks.

According to our attendance sheets, we have 500 adolescent girls coming for this event here in Lafia and to give them a dignity pack that contains a pack of pad, lux soap, shaver and toothbrush, we will be needing support through donations and partnerships in and out of Lafia.

One of the importance of this gathering is; we will increase the number of hygienic and healthy future mothers by 3% from Africa according to the United Nations Report on Women’s Health And would also reduce s*xual and reproductive diseases by 10%.

𝗟𝗮𝗳𝗶𝗮 𝗚𝗶𝗿𝗹𝘀 𝗗𝗮𝘆

We started this journey a few months ago as we toured round schools in Northern Nigeria, educating young adolescent girls on menstrual health and hygiene practices.

And now, it is exactly 15 days to the reality that was once an idea. The coming together of young Northern girls for an In-state menstrual competition.

The 𝗟𝗮𝗳𝗶𝗮 𝗚𝗶𝗿𝗹𝘀 𝗗𝗮𝘆 event is to bring together all of the girls we’ve taught in a competition stage so that we can test their knowledge and also have conversations with their guardians on how they could improve the menstrual hygiene of their children.

𝗟𝗮𝗳𝗶𝗮 𝗚𝗶𝗿𝗹𝘀 𝗗𝗮𝘆 will be held on the: 22nd of July, 2023 with Government Science Secondary School as its venue and the coming together of all the female students of various schools within Lafia.
𝗟𝗮𝗳𝗶𝗮 𝗚𝗶𝗿𝗹𝘀 𝗗𝗮𝘆 will feature; Quizzes, Competition, Short Lecture by Health Workers to Parents and Giving out of Dignity packs that contains; sanitary pads, toothbrush, lux soap and shaver. We have other gift items for the winner of each quiz category.

I can remember when I was trying to choose a stack in tech, I nearly went through all the tech stacks.

While I was at product design, I developed love for it even when I knew it was ambiguous to my interest.

White at fullstack engineering, i did the same

I repeated the same thing in data science

But one thing was missing ‘discipline’. The discipline to stay at it to the end.

We have all set goals for this year, maybe smashing some at the moment. Bear in mind, it is discipline that will make the difference.

I am now a big time community manager. Those short lived moments in other tech parts have given me an edge in managing developer communities and more.
