It is one thing to make plans, and another to be intentional about sticking to them.

Because your health is our priority, we believe, you have made the best of plans towards maintaining a good health throughout this year, and even for a lifetime.

Health, we know to be a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.

Being healthy could involve: Eating healthy foods, taking enough water, regular exercise, sticking to that doctor's prescription and not self-medicating, going for regular check up, getting enough sleep and more.

Be intentional about maintaining a good health this year.
Happy new year once again. 🎉😊

Universal Health Coverage Day

It is known that health is a fundamental human right and a key indicator of sustainable development. Poor health threatens the rights of children to education, limits economic opportunities for men and women, and increases poverty within communities and countries around the world.

Universal Health Coverage Day is commemorated on 12 December every year and it aims to celebrate the progress towards health for all and raise awareness on the need for strong and resilient health systems in achieving universal health coverage.~ WHO

Health for one, health for all!

“Sleep is not just a nighttime activity. It requires good habits during the day to set you up for success.” Dr. Abhinav Singh a Sleep Medicine Physician, said.

If you're having trouble sleeping, especially at night, try this.

1. PRACTICE GOOD SLEEP HYGIENE
These are habits and behaviors that support healthy sleep and they include:
🔺️Getting at least 30 minutes of natural light early in the day.
🔺️Maintaining consistent sleep schedule.
🔺️Avoid caffeine at least eight hours before bed.
🔺️Do not drink alcohol at least four hours before bed.
🔺️Choose comfortable sleep wears.
🔺️Optimize your bedroom environment for sleep.
🔺️Have a warm bath or a massage before bedtime, this can help prepare you for sleep.

2. CONTROLLED BREATHING
This, is a slow, deep breathing that can bring your body into a state of relaxation. It is known to help slow one's heart rate and reduce blood pressure.

3. MEDITATION
Meditation practices is used by many people to invite calm and to promote mental and physical well-being.

4. PROGRESSIVE MUSCLE RELAXATION
Progressive muscle relaxation (PMR) is a technique that involves deliberately tensing and relaxing particular muscle groups, which can help you recognize and release tension in the body.

Enough sleep is required for a healthy living. When you sleep, your body repairs, cells regenerate and your immune system is strengthened.

Try get some sleep, okay? 😊

Even as we celebrate the new month, the world also commemorates World AIDS Day with the theme, 'LET COMMUNITIES LEAD'.

AIDS is a chronic immune system disease caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) which damages the immune system and interferes with the body's ability to fight infection and disease. HIV can be spread through contact with infected blood, semen, or vaginal fluids.
No cure exists for HIV/AIDS, but treatments can be used to put it under control and prevent its' progression, it is therefore not a death sentence.

World AIDS Day is a global movement to unite people in the fight against HIV and AIDS. Before now, communities have stood together on World AIDS Day to show strength and solidarity against HIV stigma and to remember lives lost.
This year's theme is more than a celebration of the achievements of communities, it is a call to action to enable and support communities in their leadership roles.

HIV is not a death sentence!
WORLD AIDS DAY.

Happy new month.

World Diabetes day is celebrated yearly on the 14th of November to raise awareness about the impact of Diabetes, the economic threat posed by the ailment and possible ways to prevent it.

"Diabetes is a chronic, metabolic disease characterized by elevated levels of blood glucose (or blood sugar), which leads over time to serious damage to the heart, blood vessels, eyes, kidneys and nerves..." ~WHO.
It occurs either when the pancreas does not produce enough insulin or when the body cannot effectively use the insulin it produces. (Insulin is the hormone that regulates blood glucose.)

There are several forms of diabetes, of which Type 2 is the most common.
A combination of treatment strategies can help an individual manage the condition to live a healthy life and prevent complications.

But, here are few natural ways one can prevent diabetes.

🔺️Cut sugar and refined carbohydrates from your diet. Eating foods high in refined carbohydrates and sugar increases blood sugar and insulin levels, which may lead to diabetes over time.

🔺️Quit smoking

🔺️Reduce portion sizes: Eating portion sizes appropriate for your needs may also help prevent diabetes. Eating too much food at one time has been shown to cause higher blood sugar and insulin levels in people at risk of diabetes.

🔺️Exercise regularly: Exercise increases the insulin sensitivity of your cells, meaning that you need less insulin to manage your blood sugar levels.

🔺️Drink water often: Sticking to water as your drink of choice will help you limit beverages that are high in sugar.

🔺️Try to lose excess weight.

🔺️Consume lots of fiber...

The easiest way germs get into our body is through unclean hands, which is why we must inculcate the habit of regular handwashing.

During our Project 1k outreach, we educated school children on personal hygiene with emphasis on proper handwashing and also distributed healthy bags to them.
This is part of our efforts in achieving Sustainable Development Goal 3 - Good Health and wellbeing.
