The importance of having a toile first cannot be over emphasized. Don't go about wasting fabrics and time if you aren't so sure how the outcome would turn out.

A toile enables you see the outcome before the main outfit is done, less fabric wastage, less time wastage and less headache at the end.

Who has made the best use of the strike period? It's designer Wisdom! He definitely won't be returning to school same person. And that makes me so happy and fulfilled.

It's amazing to watch them grow! Having someone who doesn't even know how a sewing machine work around, and in days they are able to get themselves working around making patterns, transferring to fabrics and putting pieces together with a sewing machine,making beautiful pieces they can put on themselves is a miracle!

I wish I was thought this way, honestly! I wish I had same opportunity! I truly wish! Sometimes I can only smile when they get the happiness they had wanted from seeing what they could do,within such limited time. I'm always always happy to see them happy this way. Afterall, so much happiness is associated with giving.

ABOUT PRICING

Final episode!
Ok, welcome back to this series(if you are just seeing this, you need to see previous tips on my wall). I promised to help with few tips to consider before naming your "happy price"!

Never you be rushed into giving a price dear sewmates, it takes time before you can come up with a modest but reasonable charge. If possible, tell your client to hold on a bit before giving your price.

What to have in mind before coming up with your price?

💖 List out and calculate the cost that would be incurred in the process of making the outfit,starting from the least e.g zipper,lining,threads, interfacing and all.
💖 Will you be getting stuffs at the market for same outfit? Oya add transportation to the cost of production.
💖 Will you be paying a staff? It's a must you factor this in abeg.
💖 You still don't do the sew-all-in(bagged out finishing) method and would be overlocking? Oya add overlocking/weaving cost.

See there are just so many factors to be considered,above here is just a few things. However, some of these you would need to honestly and modestly factor into each production cost, for instance,your rent cannot be added to just one outfit charged, you will need to sit and see how much your rent cost per day(divide rent into months,then into days, then spread this over number of outfits made per time).

Above all, have in mind the least amount you can take per style and stick to this. Then put in reasonable efforts to please your clients whenever you make an outfit for them. The value you keep giving will make them keep coming back even when you charge a bit more than others around.

At the end, you will be happy,your client would be glad too.

DID YOU KNOW?

There are quite a number of boning available!
And knowing what type exactly is needed for your project is necessary for a best outcome.
What do I mean?

There are different types of boning, and each has it's unique method of using it. You must be sure of the type to use for each specific project you have,in order to achieve your desired result.

Common types of boning..
📌 Rigilene boning: This is also called the "sew-able" boning. Sew-able because you can actually sew on it. Flexible and has this whitish color with uniform lines on it.

📌 Plastic boning: Kind of transparent in color, cannot be sewn but encased. Also flexible but more stronger,sort of, than the rigilenes.

📌 Steel boning: Kind of scarce to get but also very useful for certain outfits. Metallic in nature and can yield good result when used appropriately.

Bonings are used to give structure to a dress, for fittings and volume!
The most important thing to consider when using bonings is to "get the right boning for the right project"!
Be sure to know what type and size suits the project you are working on.
Common sizes of bonings are 0.25", 0.75" and half an inch.
Be sure not to use a 0.5" boning where you ought to use a 0.25". The result aren't thesame.

Have you been experiencing a not so firm cupped bustier(corset) after you made them? This might be the reason! Many of the bra cups in markets now are to be adjusted/darted before use. An inch dart on your bra cup does no harm, Instead it gives your cup a "standing ovation"!😂😂

It's important to remind ourselves of the need to rest at this time please 🙏.
Rest is very very important and necessary.

Yes,I know....the season is here!
It's that time of the year to make that money🤭🤭, that time to work and work with almost no time to rest 🙄.
Some will even not create time to eat good meals🤔🤔,chai.

Well, please I feel there's a need to remind us, please "buy out time" for these important things🙏
You can only function optimally,if you take care of yourself.

EAT GOOD MEALS, SLEEP AND REST!!!

Here are few things I consider necessary we do;

💖✂️ Begin your collection of fabrics for the season early! This is achievable when you send messages to your esteemed clients that you've started collecting fabrics.

💖✂️Of course,not everyone will be able to get their fabrics across to you immediately, set time for those ones and make sure to work within a plan!

💖✂️Be sure not to collect more than you can deliver,to avoid stories and heartbreak please 😂😂

💖✂️Stick to your plan,as much as possible. Do not be enticed by money and more money😂😂. It can be dangerous 🙏

💖✂️While sewing, please take breaks, stretch the body, take healthy drinks and eat! Your health is of paramount importance 🙏
