I'm LIVE in the City of Benin, Nigeria 🥳🥳

So, I'm currently doing my IT with LAskill Training Center in the City of Uyo and recently, the company received a proposal to head over to Benin and groom people and bring them to the light of the digital space.

Luckily for me, LAskill is very inclusive so I was selected to take part in the program. Together with awesome techies, we made it to the City of Benin and I must say, this City is awesome 😊

Few things I've noticed so far is that, of a truth, the atmosphere of Tech is not felt here. Many young and old people don't even know how the digital space is like, neither do they know how to earn from Tech. Back in Uyo, the story is different because out of a 100 Youths in Uyo, 50 are into Tech, be it Web2 or Web3.

So here we are, trying to start something new in this beautiful City of Benin and as always, we're going to succeed.

We are running a two weeks Free IT Training on:
✓Basic ICT
✓Graphics Design
✓Frontend Development
✓Digital Marketing, etc
fully sponsored by the Medical Missionaries of Mary, our wonderful Benefactors who have seen the need to enlighten and equip the Youths.

Training holds at No. 3 Ehigiamusoe, after Ugbekun Police Station, Upper Saponba, Benin City from Monday to Friday, running for the next two weeks.

So, I sat down staring at my PC for a very long time, not knowing what to create. When I got tired of staring, my hands moved on the touchpad, opening and closing softwares and folders.

At some point, this picture appeared in Corel Draw and I'm like "Cool pic", still unsure about what I wanna do with it or why it's even open in the first place.

Out of boredom, I drew a square, then another square, then more squares, then circles and even hexagons and I saw this taking shape.

My first attempt at creating an Avatar built completely from Corel Draw. It was dimensionless and unstructured but I'm sure it came out pretty fine.

What do you think about it?

In life, we have our likes and dislikes and we would feel hurt if people do to us things we dislike. To avoid such situations or such people, there are certain things we have to put up with and certain things we have to do away with.

✓Keep people with bad energy faraway.
✓Don't accept every relationship or partnerships.
✓You have the right to say NO and no one will beat you up for it.
✓Set your boundaries and let people know about it so they can have an understanding of how they should relate with you.

What you allow is what stays. "An apple a day will not just keep the doctor away but any other person too... You just have to throw it hard enough at them" 🌝🌚

Well, all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. That's why you gotta schedule times to rest from all the screen time you've been having.

Take a rest on Saturdays and Sundays. Hit the gym, do your laundry, eat outside, visit family and friends, party, go to church or you just sleep and rest your brain.

Better days ain't coming in the next twenty years, they are always around the corner. Learn to rest well so you don't die before you blow.

That project you've been working on will still get completed... Infact, you'd do even better when you come back rejuvenated after a good rest. So, take a rest 🙂

There are things in life we just have to accept, no matter how hard we try to twist, turn or change them. "Wetin wan hapun go still hapun" 😪

You can't say you won't write codes again because of bugs, neither can you say you'd stop designing because clients are asking you to make the pictures run. Truth is, you'll encounter diverse situations in tech just as in real life. It doesn't matter who coached you, or how many tutorials you have on your system, or your temperament, you'd have to pass through these situations.

Nigeria will deal with you, PHCN will show you shege, Pablos go oppress you, clients go change minds, your parents will complain that you're pressing system too much, your system RAM no go carry Figma Plugins, your graphics card no go carry 3D effect on Photoshop, you will trek and on top of all these, your system go almost blind you even while garri go still dey rise for market 😩 Double Blindness 💔😑

So instead of running, prepare for them and deal with them as they come. You'll pull through after a few years 🌝🌚

Never forget those who paved the way for you. Your parents sacrificed a lot for you. It might look small in your eyes but know that their small was a "lot" for them based on their capacity. Your siblings (though very stubborn most times) are always there for you and your friends have been a major push. Don't forget them.

Be it an acquaintance, colleague, family, destiny helper... Try dey send small something give them. As our people always say, "My Son, God bless you" is always better than "Awwnnn" 😒

There are a lot of things that's so bad about this design, yet something still feels right about it 🙂

I decided to do a full 70's design with lesser outline and more colour/shapes mashup. From my perspective, I got the required outlook to be about 70% of the required outlook.

Many would say this is outdated but a careful study will reveal that it can easily be ranked among the Top 15 Design Trends of 2023.

Is there something still precious in designs like this? Why is its popularity really surging?

I don't know but I know that in as much as I've hated full coloured designs, there's always been a soft spot for old design patterns. I believe that through them, I can attain true minimalism.

Anyways, I think my first work is good. What do you think? Give it a rating 🙂

So you had a unique opportunity and you couldn't capitalize on it and in the long run, the opportunity is lost. Do you think that there's a way to get back lost opportunities? Yes, there are. Someone once said that "nothing is ever truly lost".

Opportunities don't come once; destroy the "opportunity comes but once" mindset. They just do a "makeover" and present themselves again, but they would always remain opportunities.

✓Got a rejection mail? Well, apply again in another company, but if you're hell bent on a particular company, then improve your skills and try again. You can always apply again at places you got rejected before, and end up being their "Star Employee". Moreover, there are plenty jobs on LinkedIn, Jobberman, etc.

✓Lost out in a competition? Others will still come, you can try again and ace it. Just study better and wait for likely competitions or the same competition if it turns up again.

✓HNG internship showed you shege that you had to drop out? Well, there are finalists to ginger your morale. Learn from them, then go back and finish the internship.

✓You couldn't connect at DevFest cos you're a shy person? Well, there are online groups where connections can happen seamlessly, like this one. And to make it better, there are other tech events still lining up.

✓Abi Senior Dev don chyke the girl you been dey eye? Well, they ain't married yet 😂🤣😂 She might just like you better 🌝🌚
(If they have become a "thing", comot body abeg o. When they break up, you can swoop in as knight in shining armor if u still dey interested)

That's a joke tho' but the truth is, opportunities are like doors. They can always be reopened again and again if you'd choose to turn the door k**b. All you have to do is set your sights on what you want, put in the required efforts, and seize your moments when they come. If you miss a moment, don't kill yourself cos another moment is already loading for you.

I had massive fun throughout the course of the event. I learnt a lot, networked, won prizes and made a whole lot of new friends.

I'm happy that the Akwa Ibom Tech System is becoming something magical and I daresay, that in the near future, we would be the frontiers of tech in Nigeria 💚🤍💚

The love was exceptional...

And the smiles and laughter were so beautiful 🥹

Yeah, a lot of negative things can get said in a lot of raw ways but the truth remains the truth. Whatever you did was not good enough and that's simply it.
Now, you can take them for their word and try to improve or you can fight everyone by trying to make them change their mindset with useless arguments.

The truth sure hurts especially when you put everything in creating whatever you did, but you gotta learn that these corrections can be stepping stones towards creating something much better.

Improve on your mistakes, your shortcomings and even your glories. Learn new concepts, watch the pros, pay heed to suggestions, and drink your favourite drink while you're at it. Only then will people's testimonies about your work change for the better.

And when correcting someone, please do it in love and in a way it won't bring disapproval or unnecessary banter. Even though the truth doesn't hurt as much as jumping on a bicycle with missing seat, still, no dey shout for my head, my lord... else na bottle go land for your head 😒

I always knew something was phony about the lappy 🤔

After you've worked for a long time with your neck so deep in the game, you, my dear, are permitted to take a break. Most times, we work till the work itself becomes tired of us and everything begins going south.

Take a break, somebody!!!

Chill out, sleep, read a book, treat yourself to a meal, connect with people, watch a movie, workout, and do whatever people do while taking a break.

Don't hamper your health for the sake of working because you'd be of no use to anyone then, not even to yourself. Note that your dreams would keep increasing after every fulfilment of any dream, so rest.

Many would argue that they do it for the passion but I'd always advise never to let your sights off the money. I'm not saying the money will come immediately because at the end of the day, attaining a lasting financial buoyancy means hustling over a long term interval with just the right amount of energy, passion, creativity, innovations and relationships.

Most times, passion blinds one from seeing the opportunities for financial stability, and this most likely gets one an underpaid wage for an overpaid job. In the long run, you'd give up when the price of garri keeps rising in the market and I'm pretty sure you won't be happy then 🙄

So if you wanna be happy in tech, try and find money making opportunities 🧐

You want a soft life, do it for the money. Only, let your passion guide you in delivering quality services 🙂
