Support for the Young!

Are you 11, 12, 13 or 14 years old, and you have never seen blood flow out of your va**na? Watch out for it. It will happen any month or a year from now. This unprovoked flowing blood is called ME**ES or PERIOD. Your first me**es is called MENARCHE. Take note of the exact age you achieved MENARCHE. Your doctor will ask you about it, as he assesses and supports your reproductive health.

Are you experiencing your PERIOD now? Firstly, congratulations on reaching this important milestone in your life! It's completely normal to feel a range of emotions and have questions about your period. Here are some steps you can take to feel comfortable and get the support you need:

1. Educate yourself: It's important to understand what is happening to your body during your period. You can start by reading reliable sources such as books or reputable websites that provide accurate information about menstruation.

2. Talk to a trusted adult: Reach out to a parent, guardian, older sibling, or another trusted adult in your life who can provide guidance and support. They can help answer your questions, provide practical advice, and assist you in accessing necessary resources, such as menstrual products.

3. Access menstrual products: You will need to have menstrual products like pads or tampons, to manage your period. If you're unsure which product to use, you can start with pads as they are generally the easiest to use for beginners. You can ask your trusted adult to help you purchase them or show you how to use them.

4. Establish a routine: Develop a routine for changing your menstrual products regularly to stay clean and comfortable. This will vary depending on your flow, but changing pads or tampons every 4-6 hours is a good starting point.

5. Practice good hygiene: Keep yourself clean and fresh during your period. Be sure to wash your hands before and after changing pads or tampons.Take regular baths, and consider using a gentle soap for your va**na. If you are not sure if the soap available is gentle or medicated, you are safer using a lot of clean water alone in your va**na.

6. Manage discomfort: Many individuals experience physical discomfort or emotional mood swings during their period. Engage in activities that help alleviate pain, such as taking over-the-counter pain relievers (if allowed by a parent or guardian), or doing gentle exercises.

7. Track your period: This is a habit you will be glad you learnt early in life. Start tracking your menstrual cycle to get a better understanding of its regularity. This can be done using a menstrual calendar or period tracking app, which can help you anticipate future cycles and manage your period more effectively.

Remember, it's important to prioritize your comfort and well-being during your period. If you ever experience severe pain, heavy bleeding, or other concerning symptoms, don't hesitate to reach out to a healthcare professional for guidance.

't lie to your parents! rule.
