⏱Ugh, you guyssss, I’ve been so eager to report on my amazing adventures in LA that took place from mid-Sep to mid-Oct!!

🌪But it was all such a whirlwind that there was really no way to do it in the moment/ play-by-play - not with the degree of reflection and reverence I felt it all deserved.

🔦Honestly, I’ve been having a hard time figuring out where to even start, because I’m still processing everything that happened, but I really do want to shine a light on some really special occurrences that will definitely be leaving a positive mark on me for a long while to come!

🎉For a start –just to get me going (lest I never begin on the daunting task of organizing my thoughts on all of this)– I decided to do this “overview post” as a kind of general “HUZZAH!!” to the musical/ creative people I got to connect with while I was there.

💗Holy smokes, do I feel grateful and lucky to have spent a little time with these folks!

(I hope to create separate posts about some of these individual adventures, stay tuned I suppose…)

For today, here is who you are lookin’ at (L to R, T to B):
, , , , , , , me doing standup comedy at , at HQ, Sally and , at , and - SUPERSTARS, ONE AND ALL! Thanks for being cooool! (There wasnt room to include a photo of The Museum of Jurassic Technology, which is my bigtime crush and muse right now. But I will just have to do a separate post on that.)

——

🌴Also… I have the distinct feeling that LA isn’t through with me 😳 which is equal parts exciting and scary… The scary part is that I feel a fairly fuzzy at the moment, on where some things are headed for me. The exciting part is that the potential for where some stuff is going has got me feeling more ambitious, motivated, and enthusiastic about my life and my unique superpowers than I have felt in a really long time 🤩

🛸MAD UNIVERSE 🪡 For those who missed it, here is a song from my new EP that I played in a very minimal, soft spoken bass+voice only version for my EP Release Show that took place on September 11, 2022.

So much has happened for me on my trip to Los Angeles in the past 2 weeks that I totally forgot to share this with everyone sooner. I hope you enjoy hearing it in this way and entering my fluorescent realm for a few moments :) this song is inspired by the boom “What Mad Universe” by Fredric Brown.

Thank you to the many people who turned up for this release show, it means a ton to me that I got to celebrate this release with you and that people are still rolling with the punches as to what a live show looks like, given these still-slightly-pandemic-ish times we are living in!!

———

I have been able to use this EP a s a musical calling card in many meaningful interactions here in L.A., and this is something I’m so, so grateful for. So thanks again also to , , and my patrons on for making this possible for me

Repost • Get to know another of next week's guests! will bring her eclectic style to our campus to talk with our students about her fascinating blend of lounge, electronica, jazz, and pop. Garnering comparisons to Kate Bush, Cibo Matto, Goldfrapp, and even "the Muppets on acid," G.T. Thomas is one of the most unique and interesting artists of the past two decades. We can't wait for her to join us next week for the Panorama Creative Music Summit!

😈HEADPHONES RECOMMENDED!! This is probably one of my favourite songs I've ever produced, I'm super hoping you like it.

🔮❓Did you ever see the end of a relationship coming from a mile away? Did you ever try to keep it going even though it was surely futile? That's the vibe of this dark, funky pop song, with a hint of 1970s film score, complemented by groovy bursts of sub bass.

📖This tune was inspired by the novel “Alien Hearts” by Guy de Maupassant, which (as with all the books the songs on my EP are based on) I read after hearing my musical hero Donald Fagen (Steely Dan) mention it in an interview. (If this fun-fact is getting a little old to read about here, imagine living in my head where I haven't been able to escape this obsession since I started keeping this reading list 16 years ago 😂). You'll see some snippets from the book in this video clippy-doo-dah.

👥I'm so thrilled with how this song came out, and so thankful to my collaborators on it:
Peter LaBarge as my incredible featured vocalist, and of course the brilliant Brad Boal (Topline Beats) on drums.

🔊I also want to give it up for Iwan van Wijk who mixed this recording, because he truly made the sub bass pump the way I wanted it to.

💿Look for the EP this song is part of – "Context" is out September 9, 2022!

This recording was made possible by generous contributions from Buma/Stemra, Sena and my Patreon patrons. Can’t thank them enough!

📋POLL RESULTS:
I ran a poll this week to find out about whether people have close internet friends.

I thought it was a funny question because I have SO MANY, seems like a given. About half my (feels like?) closest friends are people I know almost solely online.

I met my husband online (on YOUTUBE, of all places!) - we started as internet friends for 7 months.

My best friend and I met online through a course we did together. Knew each other for at least a year before we met IRL. We've technically only hung out in person TWICE (although the second time was a 3-week long tour we went on together 😂 ).

Internet friendships come in all shapes and sizes. Hopefully, it's a very small percentage of the time that we end up getting burned by internet friends. I had one bad experience, I actually thought I'd been catfished, but we ended up meeting and clearing the confusion of what had happened, and she was such a lovely person - I'm so glad I got to meet her.

For me, so much good stuff comes out of internet friendships… LIKE: this collaboration with bonafide internet friend Peter on the song coming out tomorrow, for example! Found him on Instagram, folks. (Keep putting your music out there! It helps us find each other!)

Or the fact that internet friends are almost entirely to thank for getting me up to 700 Spotify streams on my my latest single in the first week (that might seem like small potatoes 🥔but I've never experienced that before - and I celebrate wins whenever I can🎉). Shout out to the / (and specifically internet friends and might have a lot to do with that 👀). I LOVE YOU.

(BTW, dear internet friend, Y-O-U can still help me get that up to the fun 1000 plays milestone if you go to my biolink.)

INTERNET FRIENDS ARE REAL-LIFE FRIENDS.

💗TAG AN INTERNET FRIEND YOU LOVE IN THE COMMENTS! 💗
(… even if you feel self-conscious that you don't know how close you really are because it's hard to gauge these things sometimes😂)

😱Surprise your Future Self with this easy hack!!:

Pre-save “City of the Machine” on Spotify and Apple (here: https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/gtthomas/city-of-the-machine), and then this new single from G.T. Thomas will automatically show up on your release radar TOMORROW, the very minute the song goes live.

Tomorrow-You will thank you for your 12 seconds of effort right now. 🏆

But on top of that:
Now-Me ALSO thanks you!!
💗🎶🌇🤖🎶💗

Because every pre-save helps my music reach farther (it’s an algorithm thing), getting my music to other people who have (nearly) as great taste in music as Y-O-U (i.e., people who listen to stuff similar to your listening choices, so then mine gets recommended to them without you having to spread the word, yourself).

Thank you, and I hope you will love the song and boogie down a little bit tomorrow when you see it appear on your streaming platforms!

🌇"City of the Machine" premieres TODAY – listen via this post:
patreon.com/posts/70484382

This song was inspired by the 1948 sci-fi novel "World of Null A" by A.E. van Vogt, which I read after noticing my musical hero Donald Fagen (Steely Dan) refer to it in an interview.

Fun fact: when I was introduced to Donald in 2019, we had a 20 minute conversation about this book, and I had brought my copy of it with me. It came home with me with fresh ink, as you see in pic 1. 😎

Pic 2 and 3 reflect passages in the book where some of the lyric concepts came from.

When I talked about this to , host of eclectic music program "It's So-o-o Different," he agreed to theme an entire episode around the same book, and to premiere my song on his show! The episode is a gigantic blast of awesomeness, you MUST check it out if you like eclectic music, let alone if you’re interested to hear my new song.

So, at today’s special link, you'll also be able to do any/ all this amazing stuff:
• Listen to the premiere of "City of the Machine" on "It's So-o-o Different"
• Read background info about this song
• Immerse yourself in the lyrics
• Get special access to an interview with Berend Dubbe, all about what goes into crafting an episode of his show, and what it was like using this G.T. Thomas song as inspiration for this episode!Pic 4 is cover art from an edition of "World of Null A" and pic 5 is the "It's So-o-o Different" Music Program mascot, Mr. Itso: the pickle in a top hat!

G.T. Thomas: Progressive Dream Pop// Producer// Bass// Vox// Synth

Amsterdam-based recording/ performing artist G.T. Thomas goes over revelations from her daily journals with a highlighter pen, and transforms them into memorable refrains on her album of PROGRESSIVE LOUNGE POP songs, entitled "I Am a Highlighter Pen" (released: November 8, 2019 – available in her webshop, here).

G.T. Thomas is a one-woman-show, thoughtfully rearranging the self-produced tracks off her album for her live solo act on bass, synth, drum machine, and voice –which she plays simultaneously (no computers, no backing tracks, no loopers)– proving that even having collaborated with Fleet Foxes, the Metropole Orchestra, Benny Sings, and members of The B-52s, Steely Dan, and Pedro the Lion, she's never lost her love of doing everything herself.

Her current work is heavily inspired by fellow simultiinsrumentalists Nate Wood (fOUR) and Catriona Sturton, creative mastermind Jim Henson (The Muppets), and her longest standing musical hero Donald Fagen (Steely Dan).
