Crash Course in Public Speaking

Does the idea of speaking in front of an audience fill you with dread? Do you wish you knew a secret or two that could give you confidence?

This four-week class aims to help you feel less nervous and become a more skillful speaker. You will learn the art of delivery: speaking clearly and with poise. Instead of using notes with full sentences, you will practice making outlines using only key words and then reconstructing meaning from these words.

You will have a chance to prepare and practice a short presentation. May the force be with you.

Tumbleweed Club: For Young Readers and Writers

How do writers make their words come alive? Why are we still fascinated by stories written in faraway places thousands of years ago? Is it possible to be a better writer by paying attention to how storytellers craft sentences?

In this club we read books and discuss characters – their challenges, triumphs, and failures. What would we do if we were in that situation? How can we be sure?

During our time together, we will read, discuss, think, play with ideas, and write. We might create a simple outline, compose a perfect sentence, or draft a compelling paragraph. We're not practicing to be bookworms: we are training to be book dragons!
