ZUNDERT BEER BONBONS - Throwback to the Stibon Symposium in May with a wonderful treat from , bonbons made with Zundert beer! They were wonderful! The whole day was fabulous, with presentations by Yvan de Baets of Brasserie de la Senne, Peter Klosse on flavor, Sander Nederveen from Oedipus, and two panel discussions. The grand finale was the award ceremony for the Dutch Beer Challenge. Congrats to all winners, with a shout out to the only Rotterdam medal winner , 010 beer FTW 💪🏻

Thanks Tallinn TCBW for another fabulous weekend and amazing beer experience! It was a two-day rollercoaster of tasting and talking 🍻💯. Very impressed with the line-up. Highlights for me were the beautiful Norwegian Lindheim and Estonian Jaanihanso cideries. Also impressed with No 18 from China. Great to see a classic brewery like Oud Beersel there and the new Tuletorn. Birrifico Italiano brought a memorable double Italian pilsner.

Loved seeing lots of familiar faces (Rob, Katrin, Martón, incl the Dutch crowd) and meeting new people. It really is all about the people ♥️

Ze zijn pas twee maanden open, maar Tuletorn maakt veel furore in Tallinn en daarbuiten. De voormalige hoofdbrouwer van Pohjala is zijn eigen brewpub gestart. Met rijen voor zijn bier tijdens het Tallinn en Budapest festival en VIP bezoek van andere brouwers vandaag, denk ik dat het wel een succes genoemd kan worden. Zijn gekke combinaties (zoals mango en duindoorn sour ale, en nu heb ik een maple syrup en chili stout) werken echt. Hij weet wat hij doet in ieder geval!

En het Brewers Renaissance boek ligt trots in de kast!

Mijn eerste keer bij Brouwerij Hoop! Aan de overkant van de Zaanse Schans. Allebei een aanrader. Wat een mooie brouwerij en taproom. Gezellig gemaakt met veel groen en houten tafels. Daarnaast een ruime bottleshop. De meeste gasten zijn toeristen. De omgeving is een megatoeristische trekpleister, maar op een dinsdag gelukkig geen topdrukte. En ze serveren flights!

Alle bieren zijn goed doordrinkbaar, zoals ik van ze gewend ben. Hoppig, maar niet super uitgesproken. Vegan bitterballen maken het helemaal af!

VINTAGE BOTTLE SHARE - The first of its kind, at least in Beer Geeks group - was held in Breda at and was a great succes! A 'vintage' generally means the year the beer (or wine) was bottled in, but it can also mean beers that have been kept. Patrick Dawson wrote an excellent guide on cellar-stored beers. During the bottle share we put these theories to the test! Which beers aged well and which ones didn't, and how did they evolve?

As expected, the sour beers hold up really well. The Horal Mega Blend 2011 was divine! I just bought a 2024 bottle at Tour de Geuze. I think I will be keeping that for a while.... 

What a privilege to be able to taste a rare 20 year old Westmalle Tripel, a Kasteel Brun from 1989 and one from 2009 (fun to compare), a 2 liter St Christoffel from 2011 and quite a few more interesting ones. Oxidation is ever present , but in some cases can add something positive to the beer when it ages if other flavors evolve well, though most beers peak relatively soon and go down in quality afterwards. The Westmalle Tripel was clearly one of those, but it was fun to test what 20 years does to a beer like that. The Kasteel 2009 was sticky and sweet; this had disappeared in the 1989 version. I was surprised that my own Hertog Jan Grand Prestige 2012 had held up so well! It had lost a lot of its flavor, but was still relatively mild and soft without any sharp flavors.

Bourgondisch Bierkelder has a lovely cellar space in Breda where you can store your beers if you don't have an appropriate place at home. They are opening up a 2nd space in Fort Sabina this year. Check out their Instagram and website for more info!

BROUWERIJ IJSSEL - Last Saturday we celebrated 's 3️⃣rd ⓑⓘⓡⓣⓗⓓⓐⓨ with a sold out festival in Krimpen a/d IJssel! I heard so many positive responses from locals who were VERY happy to have a beer festival organized in their hometown. Special guests were and . And great party music by . Only veggie food was fries, but a little birdie told me there will be more options next year. See you then! 🎵🍻🥳

LOCO NITRO SOUR - I just had to share this photo! Not only is this a perfect shot of Jamie of (with the Irish flag in the background!) at , but for all of you who like a sour that you don't need a spoon to consume it with, 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘢𝘺 to do it! A collaboration with , this was one of the lovely surprises of the festival. A mango and passionfruit nitro sour ale with sea buckthorn, wheat and nitro! Complex fruity tartness with a slightly creamy mouthfeel without being a smoothie. Good stuff!!

BUDAPEST BEER WEEK - My 4th time at this festival and one of my favorites! Two days of great beer, fun people and ☀️. One of many fun experiences was the Guess What game by .vrai. I'm sure you've seen their cans before. You have to guess one of the hops by scratching open the name. If you get it wrong, you will know it 😆. .wagenaar and I finally guessed it after 6 attempts haha.

Another thing that we loved was the pastry sour soft serve by . Dessert in a glass, soooo good. I'm missed the one on the second day unfortunately. Please bring this back next year!!

TOER DE GEUZE - Another fantastic edition last May 4 and 5! We started off our hop on hop off bus trip at Lambiek Fabriek with a wonderful Pale & Wild Caram-elle and a Juicy & Wild Muscar-elle (what we thought were low ABV beers, but both turned out to be 8 or 9% 🙈, what a way to start the day!). I knew that to make Lambic old hop is used, but very surprised that it can be as old as from 1997!

Second stop was Eylenbosch, who have recently revived the brewery. They brew their Lambic at De Troch. We tasted a wonderful 3 yr old unblended Lambic from Foeder 16 😍.

Third stop was De Troch. Also there we got to taste something from the barrel. I mistook the active brewing installation for museum pieces 🫢, because it looked so rusty and dirty, but in fact it is still in use.

Last bus stop on day 1 was De Cam! After a quick tour of the barrel rooms we drank a wonderful Lambic Chardonnay and a Lambic Pinot Noir, both divine!

On day 2 the weather was brilliant! Great day to spend outside and tour some of the other lovely breweries, like Boerenerf and Kestemont. Highlight was the stop at In de Verzekering tegen de Grote Dorst, where we ran into Bofkont and Duron! Last stop of the weekend was at Mort Subite, to say hello to the Muifel buscrew. What an amazing weekend, can't wait for the next edition!

HAPPY 29TH ANNIVERSARY !
It was a perfect day for a birthday celebration 🎈. We enjoyed the lovely draft beers, music and the excellent vegan kroketten 👌🏻 and hanging out with good people. Looking forward to the big three-oh bash next year!

About the brewery: De Pelgrim was established in 1996 and is located in a historic 700 year old building in the beautiful area of Delfshaven. All their beers are brewed in-house. They have a nice restaurant with a view of Delfshaven and the canal. I recommend ordering a flight to go with your Cas & Kas vegan bitterballen!

TOER DE GEUZE - Upcoming weekend on May 4 and 5 the 14th edition will take place! Toer de Geuze is a biennial festival organized the first weekend in May by the High Council for Artisanal Lambic Beer (HORAL), in celebration of the wonderful traditional wild beers of Brussels and the Senne Valley. It has been high on my wishlist for a long time and I first visited in 2022. It was as fun as everyone says it is! If you love Lambic and Geuze beers or enjoy beer history, then this is the adventure for you. The breweries are open to visit and offer beer tasting, food and brewery tours. BREWERS RENAISSANCE - Classic beer meets art at this one-of-a-kind festival organized by last weekend. Artist Willem Stoop created a unique series of brewers portraits, which is on display this week at the brewery. In celebration of this exhibition, Noordt hosted a wonderful beer festival celebrating classic beers and beer styles. Several of the portrayed breweries were on tap, such as Rodenbach, Westmalle, Dupont, De Dolle Brouwers, Rochefort and Dochter van de Korenaar. The festival was opened by master brewer and legend Frank Boon himself!

and I were part of the bar team that day. What an honor to be part of such a unique event and to see brewing legends live in the crowd.

The exhibit will be on display in Brussels this year, info on location and dates to be announced. The artist will continue to add to the series with portraits from international breweries, so there will be more to come!

This is a fun and unique collaboration with Rotterdam artist Willem Stoop, who created a series of Renaissance portraits of famous, innovative and impactful brewers, such as Orval, Boon, The Kernel, Nogne O, De Kromme Haring, Westmalle, Dupont, Noordt and many more. Some of them will also be personally present at the festival. You can view this lovely exhibition on April 20 upstairs in the brewery and the week after by appointment.

BRAUPAKT - Wow, how exciting to be one of the first to taste this unique collaboration beer! Classic breweries from Germany and from Belgium teamed up to brew this lovely 6,5% blonde ale at the Weihenstephan brewery. It's made with barley and wheat malts and Hallertau Herkules, Hallertau Blanc, Hüll Melon hops from Bavaria and East Kent Goldings from the St Bernardus hop garden. Together with the Weihenstephan weizen yeast these ingredients give this Belgian blonde a special Bavarian twist. I had to wrap my mind around the flavors the first few minutes; prominent weizen tones, but also a bit spicy and quite bitter. But once the glass was finished, I was ready to have another! For me that's the mark of a good beer 👌🏻. And it was another fun night at . Thanks to and The Netherlands was the first place it was launched so we got the scoop!

TAMPA BAY BEER WEEK - Hello from , which kicked off with a fun festival at Sulphur Springs Park yesterday showcasing some of Florida's best beers and breweries. It was such a beautiful, warm and sunny day, thankfully not too hot. A lot of nice lagers and IPAs being poured. I found one cold IPA (which is the trending style in NL at the moment) no black IPAs unfortunately, a few stouts and lots of sours. Makes total sense in a climate that calls for refreshing beers!

I met two lovely ladies from and the wonderful Ruth from . I love the beer community. What a glorious start to TBBW!

POESIAT & KATER - 📰 Exciting beer news was announced recently on Feb 15 in Amsterdam. ( ) is teaming up with 🧑‍🤝‍🧑! The More beers were already being brewed there, but from now on they will carry the name Poesiat & Kater. In turn, the Poesiat beers will flow generously at Peter's bars in Amsterdam. This is the result of a real beer 'bromance' as they themselves called it and it sounds like an excellent move.

🍺 Bald Eagle, a 6,5% and 100 IBU beer, was brewed specially for this occasion. An 'old-fashioned' bitter West Coast IPA, which Peter explained is a countermovement against IPAs becoming progressively sweeter. Well, they succeeded, it was delicious.

Looking forward to the fun and creative things that will come out of this union 🍻. Good luck guys!

WALHALLA - I am so excited about the new Blackberry Cassis Sour that just released called 🅂🄺🄰🄳🄸. She is the only god in the Norse mythology associated with skiing and therefore has always been my favorite! When we were asked to choose a name for our personalized crowdfunding glass, you can already guess what mine said. Five years later Skadi had finally also made it onto a beer label! 🥰 And it tastes delicious 👌🏻.

ROLO 1977 - You know those wonderful Rolo chocolate and caramel candies? and recently released a beer that tastes just like that! Creamy bittersweet chocolate goodness! And the proceeds go to a good cause close to Rolo's heart, su***de prevention. Who can say no to drinking for charity?
