Breeding is first of all an act of love for one’s breed and own dogs. It is a process where you as a person must endure from others and disappointments and fear will also hit your human heart.
But if one can endure all of this it is a very special experience to welcome sweet puppies of your own dog. Nothing really beats te smell of those little ones and seeing them grow into fantastic working dogs is just great.

For our upcoming litter I sadly have had a disagreement with one of the breed clubs that we are a member of. Last year they rejected our breeding plan on the ground that the show results were insufficient. I had a hard time finding the background for this judgement and I am happy to announce that after almost a year I have been informed that the mistake was on their side and that our breeding plans are complying with the regulations and norms of the working flatcoated retriever group. I do appreciate that the breed club has offered me their sincere apologies for the mistake and misinterpretation of their breeding regulations. Therefore I am glad to inform you that our upcoming litter is not only approved by the largest breedclub in the Netherlands FRC but now also the WFRG.

Op de fokdag van 17 maart in Ermelo kun je je hond door, bij de Raad van Beheer, erkende artsen laten onderzoeken op aandoeningen aan de ogen en de knie (patella). De FRC sponsort uit eigen middelen door korting te geven op de kosten van het Patella-onderzoek voor deelnemers aan de fokdag én individueel aangemelde honden van leden.

CT2024 deelnemer Birgitte van Vondelen - Jørgensen met Flow of Spirits Silver Skipper (Rumi) stelt zich voor:

Mijn naam is Birgitte van Vondelen - Jørgensen en samen met mijn Flatcoated retriever teef Rumi (Flow of Spirits Silver Skipper) schuiven we aan in de indrukwekkende rij van werkende retrievers op de Champions Trophy 2024.

Ik woon vlakbij het Brassemmermeer ZH samen met met mijn man Dennis en onze 3 Flatcoated retrievers: Rumi en twee van haar nakomelingen.

Rumi is een intacte teef van bijna 8 jaar, moeder van 12 en daarbij ook stammoeder van mijn kennel Flatastic. Ze is jaarrond bejaagd en hoewel ze als praktijkhond uitblinkt in (zelf)oplossend vermogen is het ons in het afgelopen seizoen ook gelukt om 2 MAP A’s en meerdere WT A’s te halen samen. Rumi heeft helaas al enige jaren een chronische blessure die ons trainingsfrequentie en belasting inperkt, des te trotser ben ik op ons resultaten van het afgelopen jaar en gelukkig lukt het met de juiste zorg om haar fit en blij te houden.

Met een derde plaats op de FRC Apporteer Trofee kwam de uitnodiging voor de CT. Heel bijzonder dat we dit mogen gaan beleven. We zullen dubbel gaan genieten omdat haar broer Déroy ook deelneemt aan de CT 2024.

Onze reis is tot nu toe een groot avontuur geweest met vele uitdagingen - deze flamboyante dame is niet voor één g*t te vangen en ook ik heb veel moeten leren onderweg. Omdat Rumi niet het type hond is wat zich makkelijk (mentaal) overgeeft, is het zoeken geweest hoe we het beste kunnen samenwerken. Dit heeft mij, toen ze jong was, in contact gebracht met andere trainingsmethoden dan toen mainstream was en het werd een proces van ontdekken en vooral leren.

We trainen al enige jaren naar tevredenheid bij Jantine Veldhuyzen van Jachthondenschool de Kust - haar ervaring met staande honden en precisie in het trainen heeft voor mij de laatste puzzelstukken gebracht om een Flatcoated zoals Rumi te kunnen doorgronden. Ik ben Jantine zeer dankbaar voor haar geduld en kritische blik, maar bovenal hoe we samen Rumi in haar waarde kunnen laten en met kleine stappen haar niveau kunnen verbeteren op een prettige manier. In aanvulling daarop hebben we sinds deze zomer ook bij Partou getraind waar Emmy ons vakkundig doet herinneren dat jagen in de aanleg van de hond zit en dat het ook een kunst kan zijn om dat als voorjager niet in de weg te zitten.

Rumi mag met haar passie en zelfstandige karakter misschien niet de makkelijkste sport/wedstrijd hond zijn - maar haar werk in het veld op schadebestrijding en jacht blijft adembenemend. Ze heeft talloze verloren ganzen, eenden, fazanten en zelfs gezonken hazen weten te vinden, ik krijg nog altijd kippenvel van bewondering als ik haar zie werken in het veld.

Rumi heeft altijd zin om iets te ondernemen - al is de praktijkjacht uiteraard haar favoriete bezigheid - je kunt haar eigenlijk voor alles wakker maken zolang er iets van actie inzit. Rumi heeft een ongeëvenaarde levenslust en ik voel me bevoorrecht om daar elke dag van te mogen genieten - ook wanneer de Flatcoated tombola anders uitvalt dan verwacht, weet ze me heel snel weer te doen glimlachen.

Ik hoop dat we op de CT mooi Flatcoated werk te kunnen laten zien en wens iedereen; deelnemers, vrijwilligers en keurmeesters een gezellige, mooie en sportieve dag toe.
