We are actively researching the history of space patches (primarily manned missions) and sharing the information with fellow collectors and designers. We have also proudly helped design and produce some official artwork and embroidered patches. Our work includes: Soyuz TM-29, Soyuz TMA-4, TMA-12 '2nd edition', TMA-14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 01M, 20, 21, 02M, 22, 03M, Mars500, Soyuz au Guyana, Yurchik

Roscosmos released the artwork of the Soyuz MC-26 emblem. The Soyuz will be launched from Baikonur on September 11 with Aleksey Ovchinin, Ivan Vagner and Donald Pettit, and it is planned to dock on the same day to the Rassvet nadir docking port. The crew members are represented as “space burlaks”.
Burlaks were the river boat or barge pullers in the Russian empire. It is also a call sign of Soyuz MC-26 crew. According to Roscosmos, “it symbolizes the team spirit of the crew and the willingness to overcome any difficulties.”

This patch was created for Canadian Space Agency astronaut Colonel Jeremy Hansen in honour of the historic Artemis II mission to the Moon by Anishinaabe artist Henry Guimond of the Turtle Lodge.

Its shape and the animals are a reference to the Seven Sacred Laws, a traditional First Nations teaching selflessly shared with Jeremy in preparation for his journey around Grandmother Moon. This is but one example of the many rich teachings found in the diverse cultures of Indigenous Peoples, the first explorers.

ESA’s new class of astronauts is ready to hop on their next adventure, and their class name says it all: the Hoppers.

On 22 April, the new ESA astronauts Sophie Adenot, Pablo Álvarez Fernández, Rosemary Coogan, Raphaël Liégeois, Marco Sieber and Australian Space Agency astronaut Katherine Bennell-Pegg graduated from their one-year basic astronaut training at ESA’s European Astronaut Centre in Cologne, Germany.

After completing an intense year of training, they have now received their certification, marking their official transition into fully-fledged astronauts eligible for spaceflight.

In keeping with tradition, the previous ESA astronaut class picked the name from a list of suggestions given by the new class.

The name ‘Hoppers’ refers to the ambition of the new astronauts to hop in low gravity, beginning with missions to the International Space Station and eventually venturing to explore the Moon.

The visual, created by ESA graphic designer Karen Lochtenberg, is in the shape of a space hopper, the bouncy balloon toy familiar to many from their childhood, often connected with the image of a playful alien.

The six ESA astronauts together with the Australian Space Agency astronaut are represented bouncing on their own space hopper in the colour of their respective national flag. During training, it's said that the newcomers often improvised their own set of rules. Similarly, they now bounce through the patch with energy, crossing its borders freely. Among them, the Australian space hopper follows her own path, flipping upside down.

The 12 white stars on the patch represent the 12 members of the astronaut reserve who are also part of the ESA astronaut class of 2022, standing ready to hop into basic training when a future flight opportunity arises.

The backdrop features the seven windows of the European-built Cupola of the International Space Station, offering a glimpse of the next destination for our new astronauts. Moreover, it establishes a connection between the new class and their predecessors, the Shenanigans from the ESA class of 2009, whose class patch also features the iconic Cupola in the background.

Personal mission patch for the space flight of Canadian Space Agency astronaut Joshua Kutryk to the International Space Station.

Canada's emblem, the maple leaf, is flanked by the Rockies. The light and dark greens evoke the Canadian Prairies – his childhood home – and the environment.

An outline of the Silver Dart alludes to Colonel Kutryk's career as a pilot in the Royal Canadian Air Force. The stars represent his immediate family, and the Moon symbolizes crewed missions to deep space. (Credit: Canadian Space Agency)

Logo for the fourth European Service Module (ESM) that is powering NASA's Orion spacecraft to send humans into space and the Moon as part of the Artemis programme. It is designed to send astronauts farther into space than ever before, beyond the Moon and to the lunar Gateway.

ESA has designed and is overseeing the development of Orion’s service module, the part of the spacecraft that supplies air, electricity and propulsion. Much like a train engine pulls passenger carriages and supplies power, the European Service Module will take the Orion capsule to its destination and back.

The Orion spacecraft is built by NASA with ESA providing the service module. The arrangement stems from the international partnership for the International Space Station. NASA’s decision to cooperate with ESA on a critical element for the mission is a strong sign of trust and confidence in ESA’s capabilities.

More than 20 companies around Europe are now building the European Service Modules as NASA works on Orion and the Space Launch System.

Ax-2 Mission Patch

The Ax-2 patch symbolic elements aim to highlight the important role of the ISS to unite the best aspects of humanity and the mission’s focus on STEAM outreach and inspiration.

At the center of the patch is the ISS with a lavender ascent and path from Earth to space.

The color lavender has a special cultural meaning in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), representing the color of the nation’s deserts and plateaus in the spring when they are covered in flower blooms.

At the bottom of the patch is, the Earth and the horizon, symbolizing hope and inspiration.

Surrounding the inner components of the patch, are the flags of the two countries flying as part of the Ax-2 mission, Commander Peggy Whitson and, Pilot John Schoffner of the United States of America, and the two Mission Specialists, Ali Alqarni and Rayyanah Barnawi from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, who are members of the inaugural Saudi national astronaut program.
