Technical Art History at the University of Amsterdam
Technical Art History is a 2-year MA program within the Conservation Department of the University of Amsterdam. Our TAH students share their experiences.
To come close to that magical moment in which mere materials become art is what makes technical art history so exciting! It is all about learning to understand the making processes, of artworks and other objects of cultural heritage. By looking at the artworks with the naked eye, or using sophisticated scientific instruments it is sometimes possible to detect hidden clues that allow us insight in that moment of creation. In other cases we need to look deep into historical sources and we may even need reconstruction experiments to make sense of what we see on the object. To do this kind of research, and to teach about it has been such a privilege for me the past 13 years! And now we are selecting yet another group of lucky students to pursue this wonderful path. Who will follow in the footsteps of these wonderful people and join us next year? You can submit your application until February 1st.
