We are glad to have received so many visitors in the last 6 months coming to experience the 'Contemporary Piracy' Exhibition.
Yet, if you wish to be the next one, we suggest you to save this date: 12th of June
It will be our last of many SUNDAY's OPENING before the summer brake and preparation for the next exhibition.

so, 3 more Sundays to go, with a celebration FINISSAGE on the 12th of June, from 14:00 till 18:00.

This is one of the pirate's stories inside PiMu, this Illustrations is exhibiteted in the Pirate Museum collection:
THE CILICIAN PIRATES

"This pirates of the Mediterranean, initially, had their strongholds on Crete (in the eastern Mediterranean) and on the Balearic Islands (in the western Mediterranean). Later on, they made western Cilicia their base of operations, hence acquiring the name ‘Cilician pirates’.

This pirates would normally capture the crews of ships and sell them into slavery. Rich captives, however, did not suffer such a fate but were held as hostages and a ransom was demanded for their return.

One of the most remarkable stories about the Cilician Pirates unfolds in the hidden pages of history as the threat to the core of the Roman Empire by the hands of this independent free-people: pirates.

It's 75 BC and Rome is in turmoil. Caesar, who was 25 years at that time, decides to flee Rome to the court of his friend, King Nicomedes of Bithynia (nowadays Anatolia, turkey) and study Oratory. While traveling to Mileto, in the south of Italy, Caesar was kidnapped by Cilician pirates.

After the surrender of Caesar crew, the pirates have Recognised the nobility of the Roman man, due his purple cape and the crew fighting in formation to protecting him…"
