Hello, I am Kat- the face of Katz Wonder Nails. I am a fully qualified nail technician and I cover all areas of nail work from manicures, pedicures, gel polish and extensions.
I became a qualified and accredited nail technician in Bulgaria.
I have always had a passion for nails and to start my own nail salon business, has been a dream come true.

I am happy to announce that at Katz Wonder Nails I use only hard gel builder for any nail enhancement. I do NOT work with acrylics and dipping nails!
What is Hard Gel?
Hard gel is a nail enhancement like acrylic nails, except it cures in a UV light. It is NOT gel polish/shellac/soft gel/soak off gel. You can put gel polish over hard gel (and you should because it looks great). You can extend the length of the nail with hard gel, just like acrylic. It can be sculpted and shaped just like acrylic. The only difference is that hard gel hardens through UV light rather than through evaporating solvents (like acrylic). There are many benefits to using the innovative nail enhancement that is hard gel. Hard gels have a tight molecular structure and low molecular weight. Because of this tight structure, acetone cannot pe*****te to break down the gel… Soft gels (gel polish), however, have a higher molecular weight and elongated molecular structure, creating space between cross-linking agents. The space between allows for solvents (like acetone) to pe*****te and break down the product.” (³Nails Magazine)

-Hard gel is hypoallergenic, which means it is less likely to cause allergies than acrylic. This is because hard gel uses oligomers rather than polymers. “Oligomers are resins that have been reacted with other resins to form a larger resin close to being fully polymerized. Light Elegance gels use a lot of oligomers. Because they are so large they have difficulty getting into the bloodstream and therefore are much safer to use… The large quantities of oligomers makes Light Elegance hypoallergenic.” (¹Light Elegance University Student Handbook)

Hard gel is more flexible and stronger than acrylic, but it’s not as hard. Someone who is used to acrylic may feel that hard gel is weaker, but that is not true. Hard gel can withstand greater pressure and it is less likely to break or crack than acrylic is. Just like acrylic, gel can crack if it is flexed beyond its stretching point. However, because it has more flexibility, it will generally cause less trauma when cracked than when an acrylic nail cracks. It can withstand greater pressure and it will cause less trauma if a crack does occur.
“The viscosity of gels can make the proper bond more error-proof because the gel will naturally seep into all of the macro-crevices of the natural nail.” (²NSI Nail Lab) This means gel will stick to the nail better and have less lifting.

Hard Gel Vs. Acrylic
Hard gel is not necessarily a better enhancement than acrylic nails. Both are very good enhancements when performed by a skilled technician. However, I personally prefer hard gel for many reasons.
Hard gel is more resistant to lifting and cracking than acrylic because of its flexibility. If there is lifting, the hard gel will still stay close to the natural nail and be less bothersome and catch less than lifting on acrylic nails. The flexibility also makes it less likely to crack because it can withstand greater pressure. The flexibility also makes the gel feel much more natural than acrylic because it moves along with the natural nail.
Hard gel is safe during pregnancy. Although there is no evidence to suggest that acrylic nails are unsafe for pregnancy, a woman who is pregnant may still prefer hard gel. If a woman wants to be extra cautious, hard gel is a good substitute nail enhancement during pregnancy. Also, hard gel has no strong odors or fumes. Pregnancy tends to make women extra sensitive to smells and the odor of acrylic may be too much for a pregnant woman. Hard gel has absolutely no odor and it looks just like acrylic.

At Katz Wonder Nails I require at least 48 hours notice if you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment.

For all appointments that are above a value of krr 300 I request that you pay a booking deposit. This booking deposit will be redeemed against your service bill in the salon.

Keeping nail enhancements immaculate can be easily done by following the aftercare advise below:
- Be extra careful when wearing nail enhancements.
- Be careful with car door handles, use a spoon to open cans/ring pulls.
- Knocking your nails can damage or tear off the gel, which can be painful and drastically affect the health of your nails. Gel nails should not damage the natural nail, unless they are pulled off, therefore it is vital to the health of your nails not to do anything too strenuous.
You should be extra gentle with your gel nails for the first 24-48 hours after they are applied. Although the material used dries in minutes, they are not very strong until the bonding process has been completed. Avoid hot baths/hot-tubs for the first 48 hours as wet heat can weaken and make the nails lift.
- Wash hands immediately after swimming and hot tubs to remove the chlorine which can weaken the nails and fade polish colours.
- Always gloves for cleaning and gardening work. Strong detergents such as bleach and cleaning products can discolour the nails.
- Oxygen can hinder the speed of the drying process so by using a cuticle oil, you help seal the nails, speeding up the curing process.
- Use a cuticle oil daily as moisturising your nails will encourage healthy nail growth.
- Only use a salon to remove your nails. Removing your nail enhancements at home will certainly damage your natural nail.
- Avoid moisturisers, sun cream or tanning products which contain Lanolin or Mineral Oil. These will cause Gel to weaken and ‘lift’. Wear gloves for applying tanning lotion.
- If there are any signs of lifting or damage to the nails it is important to contact the salon as soon as possible. Water and bacteria can accumulate under lifted nails.
- Regular maintenance of infills or professional removal is essential to keep the nail enhancements and natural nails looking immaculate.
Finally, take care of your nails.

For Pedicures:

- Wash feet daily and dry thoroughly
- Use a foot powder if your feet sweat
- Avoid wearing tight fitting shoes, tights or socks too often, allow the feet to breathe.
- Use a pumice or exfoliant on your feet weekly to keep hard skin under control
- Regular use of a moisturising heel gel (available at Katz Wonder Nails) will keep your heel skin supple.
- Use moisturising lotion on the feet and legs to keep skin soft and to improve circulation.
- Cut and file nails straight across and keep them at a sensible but do not use metal files.
- Use a cuticle oil daily as moisturising your nails will encourage healthy nail growth. Follow the tips on nail enhancements to keep gel colours on your toes healthy.
