Siri's Quilts
I started quilting in 1979 when we lived in PA, USA, and got hooked. I have made quilts since then.
Wonderful day
My nephew had his first child in 2022. Alma had to have a quilt as well.
QR Code for my dog club. Hangs in our training facility. Scan it - it works! 2022.
A friend who loves Alaska is expecting a baby. So my last Alaska fabrics got into good use for the baby. Quick to make. Quilted as stitch in the ditch. 2023
Welcome to my quilt page! Over the years since I started quilting in 1978, I have made quite a few and I have pictures of several of them here.. Some of the older ones I need to transfer from 35 mm slides to e-format, so these will be added later.
In addition to that, I was the person who initiated and ran the Norwegian Quilter's Association's drive "Tepper som varmer" - Warming quilts. I started this drive in 1995 and ran it for 10-15 years, collecting quilts from quilters in Norway and distributed them to permanently ill kids in several hospitals. We started with the cancer hospital, and added cancer units in other university hospitals, then added other long-term illnesses all over Norway. By the time I stopped working for this we had collected some 3000-4000 quilts, and now, nearly 30 years later, the drive is bigger than ever. I am actually proud to have started this! And even more proud that it continues so many years later. Each kid gets to choose a quilt that will be his/hers forever. See also the page Tepper som Varmer.
Military quilt 2. A friend of a friend had seen the picture of my grandson's military quilt and asked me to make one for her grandkid. She bought fabric and I made it, but that was of course not as personal as the one made from my son-in-law's military uniforms. And as this did not include a dog, my dog decided to be a part of the picture.
I have also made many bags and smaller items to give away. Here are a few:
Birgitte's Africa bag
Wallhanging with Alaska quilt's fabric
Sister's bag with Alaska quilt's fabrics
Sister's toilet bag
Alaska quilt. While in Alaska I bought some typical Alaska-motive fabric and also some other fabrics, not quite knowing what to do with them. Some seminole, some stripes, some solids and some arrows, and it actually turned out quite OK. The colors on the detailed pictures are more correct, as it is not so brownish as the main picture. But lighting was not good. I gave it to my nephew as he loves the outdoors, both fishing and hunting.
What can be more fun than Bargello? Actually almost everything. I bought a jelly roll with 50 different solids and though bargello would be fun. NOT! All those meeting point to match.... Never again! My youngest grandson was happy about it. The top picture is when it is done. The bottom picture is before the quilting and I added a few more rows to make it wider. He chose the backing fabric and Theresa Ward quilted it for us. Bargello done in 2022 and quilting done in 2023.
This took a very long time to make. I think I started about 15 years before the top was finished! I used ideas from Jinny Beyer's medallion book, and created my own pattern from that. I sewed, gave up, put it aside as a UFO and sewed, again, and again. I also ran out of white, and found a web page where you could ask if anyone had specific fabric. Luckily one had it, so I was able to finish without starting on a new white fabric. Beautifully custom quilted by Theresa Ward. Queen/King size.
A friend turned 50 and this is the view form their cabin on a moon-lit summer night. Designed, pieced and quilted my me 2004.
"Green Forest" king size made from 17 different green batiks in 2022-23. This is also q kit, bought on-line. My son and his wife had worn out the Serendipidy quit; or actually their dogs had as it was used on the bed that they shared with the dogs and it needed washing all the time. So they looked online and found this. I really needed to pay attention in order not to mix the 1600 little pieces, each cut individually. It was not possible to do it differently a hardly any pieces go with an other more than once. The purchased backing was not big enough so a stripe of contrast was added.Quilted by Theresa Ward 2023. You can see the quilting on the back side picture.
Two grown up persons and two dogs in the family all needed Christmas stockings. The dogs remembered them the next year and were excited about them when they were hung up again. 2019.
This is a kit from Lincoln, Nebraska. I thought that my son and his wife, both very good guitarists, needed that for their studio. The strings are mad with silver thread. Patchwork and quilting by me 2020.
In a quilt store in Kansas they had this gorgeous quilt as a kit called "Serendipidy". My son really loved that so I promised to make it for him. I found out who had quilted it and Theresa Ward has been my favorite (and only) quilter since then. 2009.
A small quilt that was horrible to make. Done in 2022 and given to my daughter and her husband. Machine pieced and knot-tied.
My daughter and her husband got married in 2004 when they lived in Hawaii. So what is more appropriate than a Hawaii quilt? The top is cut out from one piece of fabric and hand appliqued to the white bottom. It was echo-quilted by a person in Norway (don't remember her name anymore) on her long-arm machine. The quilt was done in 2006. Pillows were added later, hand appliqued and quilted by me.
Both my sister and a friend couple built mountain cabins in 2022, and both were given a wall hanging. The quilt shop in Boise, ID had the fabrics and the pattern, and I chose the colors. Pieced and quilted by me. The bed quilt was a wedding gift to my sister in 1984.
Grandson 2 also needed a colorful quilt, so this is what I gave him. Pieced and quilted by me. 2010.
My grandson number 2 was born in 2010 and I made him a farm quilt, modified from the book written by Kristin Kolstad Addison. The animals can live in the little pockets when not being played with, and the barn is collapsible. I used plastic inside the walls and roof to make it possible to stay up. I remember his mom telling him to play with the quilt, and he said that it was dumb as all the animals just spilled out. So much for a bad day for a 3 year🤣 old.
A couple I know adopted a girl, and she also got a quilt.
What to give to a couple adopting 4 siblings at the same time? Quilts for each kid, of course. pieced and quilted by me. 2008.
My son in law was in the US Army when his sons were born. He asked me to make a play quilt for his oldest from his old uniforms and his various uniform patches. I also added their dog Hero, peeking out from the tent in the middle. 2009-10
Baby quilt for oldest grandson in 2008. This is a kit, pieced and quilted by me.
This quilt was made for my grandson from a kit. The patchwork was done in 2022. Quilted by Theresa Ward in 2023. This picture is from before the quilting.
Moving to the US in 1978 I thought I should learn th "US craft" - quilting. I signed up for a class given by Gloria Braun in Boalsburg Needleworks, near State College, PA. I got hooked. And Gloria and her husband Walter got to be my good friends. They visited me after I moved back to Norway, and I visited them a few times when I was in PA. Here are a few of my quilts. Some are missing as I only have 35 mm slide pictures and need to convert them to something that Facebook can read.
