AbborNM 2024 has ended. A fantastic tournament with great participants, good mood, and many fish caught, though not all were the required size. A huge thank you to all participants, Jaktia Jessheim for the fantastic prize fund, and especially to Kim Skjerve for trusting us and allowing us to continue the tradition of organizing this event.

If you noticed, there was a confusing situation, which happened for the first time in my (the tournament judge's) career, and this was why I didn't notice it. The teams in second, third, and fourth places had the same number of points. The team in second place caught one fish larger than the other two teams, securing their position. However, the teams in third and fourth places caught identically sized fish, and we missed this fact, awarding the 3rd place prize to Team Jaktia Kongsvinger during the awards ceremony. In this situation, by mutual agreement and by the decision of NSFL judge, Team Okuma is also declared the 3rd place winner in the Classic category along with Team Jaktia Kongsvinger. Additionally Team Okuma will be awarded with trophy and 2500 NOK prize.

We would like to remind you that the "Silent Days" rule applies and the participants of the competition are forbidden to drive boat, fish, or mark potential fishing spots until the day of the competition. *04:00 - 06:15 Boat launch
We ask all participants to prepare their boats and equipment before arriving at the launch ramp. After landing the boat in the water, one of the team members stays by the boat, the other team member goes to the parking place. We remind all participants of the competition that there is an additional fee of NOK 100 for landing the boat for those who will use Mo Båtrampe, which you can pay when you come to the secretary's table with VIPPS. Participants who will stay at the campsite or at other places on the shores of the lake and use the ramps there, pay the price set there.
Once the boat has landed in the water, team members or the captain must come to the secretariat table and take the measuring board. After check in you can continue prepare your boat or take a chat with other participants.

*06:45 - 07:00 START OF TOURNAMENT
NSFL uses 2x10s teams launch to avoid conflict and accident. The starting line will be marked with two buoys in the water, from which the participants will be launched in order of 2 teams at intervals of 10 seconds. For the first 5 seconds after the start, boats must drive at a maximum speed of 5 km, further as far as the boat's engine allows. Safety is the main rule of our tournaments. Life jackets must be worn by all competitors while the boats are moving.

*17:00 FINISH
This means that at 17:00 the Fishupload app will be disabled and the fishing time of the tournament ends. All participants must immediately return to the base and immediately return the rulers to the secretariat. This will shorten the result calculation and check out time.

All teams that have come ashore, PLEASE don't pull the boats, don't drive around the parking lots and don't try run home and don't cause chaos. The system used by the NSFL is fully automated and the results will be available immediately after the end of the competition time. Please check if you have correctly selected your desired category. I remind you that in the NSFL AbborNM tournament, teams are divided into two categories: Pro and Classic.
- **Pro**: Participants using live-type sonars.
- **Classic**: Participants without live-type sonars.

The NSFL Classic tournament has ended. Fantastic results, great moods, and many "escaped" big fish.

A bit of information:
Juris Zelickis from the LJPro fishing team opened the leaderboard with a 90cm pike, and shortly after, the first 1m+ pike was caught. Christian Sletmo from Team Takkel Daiwa caught a 112cm pike. Not a minute later, a 113cm pike appeared on my computer screen, caught by Kjell-Remi Westlie. The start was simply spectacular.

Until the lunch break, pikes were being uploaded on average every 6-8 minutes. After lunch, the sun came out completely, and the fish started to hide. Not everyone managed to "put" trophy pikes in the net, with many escaped trophies, lots of stress, and disappointment. But that's part of the tournament.

After the tournament ended and everyone returned, the winners were announced.

There are 23 teams participating, which have collectively agreed to compete in a single PRO category. The rules are simple - 5 pike starting from 60 cm.

A special bonus prize has been established by our friends and regular participants of the competition, the owners of the company RG Gruppen AS, Gytis and Robertas from Team GTR. The prize is 1500 NOK for the first pike caught over 100 cm and 1500 NOK for the "Big Fish."

A few major changes to the NSFL rules that I believe will be beneficial and more acceptable to all of us.

1.Use of live sonar

Each tournament organized by the NSFL will have TWO SEPARATE categories of participants.
a) Classic
b) PRO
During registration, the participant must choose which category he is participating in.
Classic "if the boat does not have a LIVE TYPE sonar"
PRO "if the boat has a LIVE TYPE sonar"

2.GoPro or any Action Camera

Rule "the camera must be in the boat during the entire tournament" has been changed from required to recommended.
Video or photo material would be useful for the overview of the tournament.

3.One-man team

A participant can register a team of one person, participating with equal rights as a two-person team, accepting and understanding the responsibility and the possibility of losing to a two-person team, at the same time refusing to submit a complaint to the judge, if this is not a violation of NSFL rules

4. Fly fishing

Fly fishing allowed in all NSFL tournaments

5. Silent days

The silent days rule is effective from the Monday of the following week until the day of the tournament

6.Barbless hooks

NSFL follows the rules C&R, and in every possible way tries and encourages the participants of the tournament to protect the caught fish, causing as little damage as possible. Therefore, starting in the 2024 season, we recommend and encourage all tournament participants to use barbless hooks. Gradually, we will go to the point where this recommendation will turn into a rule and in the future all hooks used will be barbless only.

Before diving deep into endless discussions about the "for and against" use of live-type sonars in competitions, I'll share a proposal I received from an active community angler, which for some reason, due to its simplicity, has never been discussed anywhere. Maybe the reason is that we're making everything too complicated...
The proposal is to create separate categories in NSFL tournaments during a single event for those who have and use live-type sonars and those who don't. This means there will be two groups of winners.This solves the problem of the 50/50 time limit, control, and rule violations.

We'll name them:
1. without live sonars - Pro Class
2. with live sonars - Elite Class

The classification is only to make it easier to navigate; Elite won't provide any privileges, and it doesn't mean that participants in this category are superior to those in the Pro category.

I'd really like to see and hear your opinions in the comments.

When the storms is down, the whole situation can be assessed calmly. I will admit my guilt that I did not do a complete and detailed analysis, as a result of which I rushed the announcement of the TroutNM event. I have come to the conclusion that the "Holy Trout" in the Norwegian fishing community is religiously higher than the "Holy Cow" in India.
NSFL's goal is to organize and present the highest quality sport fishing tournaments to the Norwegian fishing community, and TroutNM should be one of the TOP in the future. We have a base of strict rules, we promote only the Catch&Release principle, and when the target is trout, we understand that more precise information is needed here.
Here comes the turn to connect all of you to a support group in order to gather the most accurate information before announcing the TroutNM tournament.

Questions and answers

Can I use an rubber boat and what are the requirements?
Yes u can use any type rubber boat from 3,2m up to .... Main thing is safety , live west. NSFL is not responsible for the safety of the participants or the technical condition of the boat. The judge reserves the right to disqualify a participant if, in his opinion, the boat does not meet the technical requirements, looks visually unfit for use, or is mechanically damaged.

I don't have GoPro camera . Can i participate anyway?
This way you can participate in all tournaments. The action camera rule was brought to the Main League. In all other tournaments, a camera is recommended, not required.
The NSFL is based on mutual trust, participants respect for each other, and the rule of "fair play". Violation of NSFL rules will result in disqualification for the entire season with no right to compensation.

I don't have a team mate. Can i participate alone ?
Yes you can as "one-man" team. NSFL has "eased" registration and rules in response to multiple enquiries. Many participants do not have a "serious partner" and therefore cannot create a two-person team.
NSFL reminds that participants who register as a "one-man" team assume full responsibility and consider the possibility of losing to a two-person team, and waives the right to make complaints of any kind, if it is not related to a violation of NSFL rules.

Is fly fishing allowed?
Fly fishing allowed only in pike and perch fishing tournaments. TroutNM is only spin fishing allowed.

New Judge-Admin platform:

We also made big improvements to our judging system. Now everything is completely automated. Judge only needs to enter your approved fish size and rest is done automatically. 0 manual calculations, all done by computer both during the tournament and after, within a blink of an eye (including stats, top catches etc.)

It’s time to announce plans for the NSFL 2024 season. I will start by saying that I want to thank everyone who was with us last year. NSFL is not an organization of one or two people, it is all of YOU together, participants, sponsors, supporters, staff. A big thank you to all of you. A lot of time has passed since the last tournament and there was a lot of discussion about the future plans. Decisions were made that may cause sadness to some and have no effect on others. Based on the results of the last season, I made a decision to cancel the Main League tournament for 2024. The reason is a decrease in interest from both participants and potential sponsors. The amount of the tournament entry fee is too high, additional requirements regarding the camera, "sticking" to the schedule for the whole season, and if you do not participate in one of the stages, you lose the chance to win a prize place. All this forced the NSFL to reconsider its strategy and move to the organization of individual single tournaments.
