We would never expect ourselves or others to keep running on a broken ankle in a cast, or insist on walking around without glasses when we seriously need them.

When it comes to a Mental Health challenge, just because we can’t see it, doesn’t mean it’s not there.

Taking our wellbeing seriously means Being Kind to Our Minds and the minds of others, and encouraging positive Mental Health practises each and every day.

What a treat to bring a Be Kind to Your Mind event to the incredible women of the Ruakākā / Bream Bay Area last night.

Such incredible feedback from so many wāhine of all ages. Thanks for having us!

It’s been a big week. Sometimes being an adult is just taking one tiny step at a time, doing my best, showing love and respect to others, maintaining integrity and doing the truly important things first.

I’ve been reminded to be grateful for each and every day that I have the privilege of living.

Thanks for the beautiful reminder at the mall today.

One of my greatest joys is to see the ‘lightbulb moment’ happen in the eyes of my audience members during my Keynote presentations.

I spoke to a group of 1500 school students on the topic of anxiety, teaching about how the brain works, why we need a Jelly Buddy and what to do at the Wobbly Point.

As I walked offstage a girl approached me with tears in her eyes. She touched my arm, pulled me to one side and whispered, ‘Thank you for what you do’.

These are the moments! From the Principal who went back to school after a conference and was honest with her staff about her Wobbly moments for the first time ever, to the Board member who entered a meeting doing the Wobbly Wave to signal a need for support.

From the teenager who went home from a Be Kind to Your Mind event to talk to her Mum about accessing support for disordered eating, to the group of senior nurses who thanked me for being the first person to actually help their group address their own mental health rather than just prioritise the needs of others.

My aspirations are simple. To use my voice, influence and platform to reach as many people as I possibly can with a message of hope and practical change.

One Wobbly point, and one Jelly Buddy at a time!

Thank you as always for joining me on the journey, and for spreading the news with me!

What the heck? For about an hour last night my Facebook was suddenly all in this language, and now it's back to normal.
Any idea what language it was?😂

In the middle of a high anxiety spike or depressive dip, it can feel like there’s no light at the end of the tunnel as we simply cope with what’s right in front of us.

But rest assured, no matter where we sit today on the mental health spectrum - this is not the end of the story!

Learning to deal with and manage our mental health can instead be a beautiful invitation into the journey of learning to Be Kind our Minds.

Yours on the journey

I feel like a proud Mama Hen with my first Mental Health First Aid Youth edition cohort of graduates!

Presenting MHFA courses for Youth Workers and Adults alike is empowering, intense and deeply satisfying. I liken our two days together each time to wading through golden syrup - always a rich learning experience.

These people were amazing. Brilliant questions and insights, with a heart to learn so they can better serve and support the young people (and adults) in their worlds who may be showing signs and symptoms of a mental health challenge.

Our aim is for attendees to leave being equipped to kindly but clearly assist others to take the first steps toward recovery when the pressure is on.

Kia Kaha Cohort Julia Grace!

Imagine planting a seed in the ground then expecting to see a tree the next day - sounds silly, but how often do we do this with our mental health?

We make a change in our lifestyle, then expect to feel instantly better or different.

It's not the quick action that makes the difference, it's the long, slow, consistent changes that add up to the positive results. One Degree of Change is subtle and small, but makes the biggest difference over time.

Forget about the extreme makeover, the dramatic changes with all the oohs and ahs. Focus on your small changes and let the growth take care of itself.

What's your One Degree of Change this week for positive mental health?

Not sure what I’m waving at here but love this shot of me presenting Mental Health First Aid for Youth yesterday and today!

Empowering and resourcing people to be the first port of call for people showing signs of mental distress is so important.

The feedback from these epic two day courses is consistently positive. Raising confidence in having the challenging conversations can create lifelines for those needing support and care.

Your organisation can have a trained Mental Health First Aider (or more than one!) - let’s talk about joining a course or having us run one at your place!

International Speaker Charlotte Kemp

Strategic Positioning for Speakers

There are 4 Pillars that hold up a future ready, agile, relevant careers. As professional speakers who lead and influence audiences around the world, ensuring that these pillars are strong is vital. If they are weak, then we are irrelevant, out-of-date, and of no value to the client and audiences we wish to work with.

One of the Pillars that is particularly relevant for us is that of Perspective. We need to nurture our own global perspective and future perspective in order to serve our clients well. That means knowing what trends are trending, which are important for us to respond to, and why and how to ignore the rest. Yes, you read that correctly. We do not have to respond to every trend. We can choose to ignore those that do not serve us.

Charlotte Kemp is a professional futurist, a professional speaker and the President of the Global Speakers Federation. By intentionally nurturing these perspectives in her professional career, Charlotte now brings deeper insight to her clients than she could have before. She will share with you how to achieve the same, and you don’t have to fly around the world to so.

Today’s Be Kind to Your Mind Keynote was for the School of Transformation Principals Conference in Fiji.

One of the things I always love about speaking to leaders in Education, is how they immediately want to share their learning and discoveries with their staff, students and families.

Teaching positive Mental Health practises and Grab-able words to such generous leaders means the message is not only helping them, but also their whānau, their schools, and in turn their whole community.

It’s an honour to use my story and research to serve those who tirelessly serve others all across Aotearoa and beyond.
