TAKU HUARAHI - My path
This piece tells a story of a wahine on a journey. Unsure if her next steps will take her where she wants to go, she trusts that her tipuna will guide her to where she needs to be. She never walks alone. Matariki promises new beginnings. Focused on the journey ahead, she leaves the past behind her, excited and hopeful for what comes next.

TE HAERENGA - The journey.
Everyones journey is different. Unique to their circumstances, their goals, their desires.
But it's not only about moving from A to B. We must embrace the space in between.
The ups and downs,
the highs and lows,
the exciting and the mundane.
The space in between is where life happens. Embrace all of it.

My motivation to create for Dementia is my late great-grandmother, Mary Ryan, who lost her memories to this awful condition. She was an amazing, beautiful, and crafty woman. I loved visiting my great-grandparents on the weekends as a child and was well aware of how lucky I was to have them. It was so sad to see her memories fade.
You can help people affected by Dementia and their Whanau by making a small donation here ==> https://alzheimersnz.grassrootz.com/create-for-dementia-2024/kerekere-studios. Each and every donation is greatly appreciated 🥰

Throughout Matariki there is a huge rise of cultural appropriation. Corporate businesses use Matariki as a marketing stint for financial gain.
Māori artists loose opportunities due to cultural appropriation and as a result of this, it dilutes our toi and culture.
This is an invitation to those companies to sponsor a Māori artist instead of using the culture for commercialisation purposes. You are welcome to use this and send it to companies that need reminding. 👏
I will also be hosting a kōrero about cultural appropriation this Matariki with Tūturu Charitable Trust ❤️
More details to follow but this will be a chance to educate those about the history and the fight we've had with cultural appropriation. 😢
These are important conversations to have whānau and our toi should be protected at all costs ❤️
When I started working with texture paste as a medium, I experimented with lots of different methods and techniques. I developed my signature series entitled TUPURANGA, meaning growth. The series has grown and evolved, and so have I as an artist. I really love discovering new interesting ways to use texture and new mediums in my artwork.
Pictured here are three 14x14inch Tupuranga artworks in sage green, sand, and gray.

Another piece added to my Rākau O Te Ora series. The mixed media works in this collection so far are on 16x20inch canvas. Touchable textures, metallic hightlights, and a feminine sensual vibe ✨️

This year, my creative challenge will be to upcycle, recycle, reuse, and re-purpose. One persons trash can be another persons art supplies 👩🏽🎨

Something a little different today with & co. I can't wait to see the results!
Last June, I dabbled with watercolours, created with clay and experimented with gold leaf for my Multi media challenge, and we smashed our $500 fundraising target. Let's do it again this year!
All funds raised through Create for Dementia will go directly to Alzheimers New Zealand to provide vital services and support for people living with dementia mate wareware.
More info on what I'll be creating and how you can donate coming Monday 🥰
