Shelley NZLSA Debrief
NZLSA Conference Results!
SOULS is super proud of all of our national competitors. Our lovely Shelley has done the honours of giving us a debrief!
But in short, Otago respectfully stepped on necks and we'd do it again.
Otago had finalists in 3 of the 4 competitions. And NATIONAL CHAMPIONS in 2 of those 3 finals!
Congratulations to:
Kelci Alderton-Armstrong for bring home the national win in Witness Examination against Waikato.
Brad Mcmurtrie and Courtenay Fame McDowell for interviewing the frick out of some clients (Client Interviewing 1st place) against AUT.
Callum McDonald and Hansaka Ranaweera for negotiating the heck out of Vic (Negotiation 2nd place)
and Josh Meikle and Matthew Handford for their hard work in Mooting.
SOULS is super proud of you all for your awesome mahi!
A further congratulations to Archie Ritchie and George Sabonadière for a clean sweep of both Junior Mooting and Junior Negotiations. Looking forward to seeing you both at nationals over the next few years!
That pretty much wraps up Alex Thomson and Jaz Mahana Nathan's work in the competitions role and we couldn't be more stoked with the incredible efforts, time and resource all competitors, the faculty, sponsoring firms and of course our excellent team at SOULS Otago have put in this year.
Lots of love xx
Democracy manifest! This year SOULS is changing how we count the vote from "First Past the Post (FPP)" to Alternative Vote (AV). See the PSA below as to how AV will work on the day! With so many great candidates for SOULS 2020 AV means your vote counts so much more (and any questions send us a message)! An example: There are 4 candidates and 100 votes cast. Under FPP a candidate may be elected at first instance with 26 votes. Under AV a candidate with 26 first place votes will not be elected outright, instead those who voted for the lowest raking candidate will have their votes redistributed based on their second preference. This process continues until a candidate secures a majority. In short: AV means your vote counts for more than just the first round and can better reflect your preferences (particularly when you like multiple candidates). Unfortunately alternative voting will not apply to roles with two positions (competitions and social) so normal voting will apply for these roles.
