Super Saturday for Finals Cricket!
Our prems have packed up their kit (and all 3 trophies) but we focus on our Pressies side, taking on the old foe; OBR

Today’s Hope Cup Final kicks off at 2pm, and promises to be a beauty!
Ollie Needham, Marshall Norris, Jeff Chambers and Sean Moran form a fearless core of leaders, and theyve named a strong side to challenge for the cup for the second time in 3 seasons. Keen to take down the side who knocked them out of the semi finals last year, the lads have called on all current and former members to get along to the Harry Barker to support them!

Pressies proudky supported by ChicKing!

DJ BARRY CHAMPIONS!
Hsob Premier side beat OBR in the two day format. Qualifying top of round robin meant Obr needed an outright win to take the choccys. It wasnt to be.
DAY 1 was washed out, and despite that suiting HSOB, it was good to see the team doing everything we could to get the game on.
Day 2 dawned bright and sunny, but it wouldnt be easy going. First issue was the council left their sprinkler system going for Saturday night, soaking the rep block. A quick transfer to #2, HBR, and the start time of 12.30.
Skipper Dave Castle lost yet another toss, and HSOB were sent in to bat, on a pitch best described as pudding.
Our openers Carl Shaw and Ajay Kumar batted to their strengths. Carl sent up to see off the new ball, did exactly that, getting through 77 deliveries and blunting the OBR attack. Ajay the polar opposite. 2 fours to get under way and he deflated any attack through dominance.
Baxter McKay, the sick cat, smashed four sixes, one of which was lucky to stay in the park. Castle came in and together w Glen Udall, put on 50 together.

Hsob declared leaving 38 overs for OBR to bat, but after deciding they had no chance, they offered their defeat to HSOB.

HSOB CC, back to back Triple Crown winners for 2023/24, taking out the Doleman Cup 40 over comp, Walker Shield T15 comp and DJ Barry 2day competition.
Our Pressies have their final next weekend, and exciting time for our club!
As always huge thanks to Bollywood Tandoori Inisian Restaurant and ChicKing for supporting us this season!

The Pressies quality chase to beat Ngatapa has been the talk of the cricketing fraternity at HSOB. We sought a quote from true cricket legend Ben Obrien Leaf, who was umpiring the game, and he had this to say about the HSOB chase:
“Marshall [Norris] defended the stuff on or outside off-stump but crushed anything too straight, or too short. He was totally committed to every shot he played and did extremely well, with the calm Yegan, of seeing Presidents home after they lost Jeff & Matt Jefferd at a dangerous time”

Testimony to any side is how the work as a group with many guys contributing, and stepping up in moments of need!
Pressies, we continue to salute your teams semi final win!! What a beauty

Photos from HSOB Cricket Club's post 09/03/2024

Our killer saturday doesnt end there!

Our pressies had their semi final vs a strong Ngatapa! After taking early wickets HSOB had ngatapa on the ropes but a good late partnership saw them power through to 157/7 off 30. This was probably 30 or so more than HSOB had hoped after a good start.
Another game that required more brains than brawn when it came to the batting innings. Luckily we have a clued on bunch.
A solid start both openers Jefferd and Needham both getting good starts, before skipper Jeff Chambers added his near run a ball 25 to the total. Ngatapa on top and the run rate creeping up, Marshall Norris strode to the crease, some revenge in his eyes after taking some tap for 40 runs off 6 overs bowling, he mixed patience and sensibility with destruction and power. Combining w Yegan Lanka, these two finished the game in style with a boundary off the first ball of the 29th over.

HSOB victorious and onto their final next week!

A HUGE WINNING WEEKEND FOR THE CLUB!

HSOB PREMIER MEN WIN THE T15 WALKER SHIELD
Our boys in blue have taken the choccys in the t15 today against OBR.
After winning the toss and bowling on an average rep wicket the lads have done well to keep OBR to 102/9. Good bowling up top was iced by one of our clubs most dedicated men - Nick Armour snaring unbelievable figures of 2 overs, 3 wickets for oy 5 runs.
Needing more than a run a ball we started with a couple of smaller sixes of the day, before our Matua, or fearless leader, our club legend Glen Udall. ”Pat” worked the ball into gaps and ran hard, before smashing a huge bomb at the moment we needed it. Finishing 34 off just 28 he provided the much needed glue of the innings!!
Job not quite done, Carl Shaw, last year voted best cricketer in gisborne and long term sexy firemans calendar advocate, made sure he took it right to the last over, where he was able to own the game and finsih the job with one ball remaining.

OBR 102/9 off 15

HSOB 103/5 off 14.5

Saturday dawned the prospect of an outright win vs a valliant gbhs.
Such things were forgotten as 2022/23 Gisbornes Best Cricketer Ever, Carl Shaw, took centre stage.
Overnight not out on 30odd, Carlos got settled on day two, and proceeded with a late flurry if hitting not often seen around club cricket here. His dominance was fierce, but it was his composure for the occassion and calm and quality decision making that saw Shaw power his way to 103* off 135 balls. 4 sixes and 8 fours helped his cause, but he was super dominant. Set up a quality HSOB first innings win!!
GBHS 164/10 Keegan Jooste 4/31 & 221/10 Dave Castle 5/62

HSOB 246-6decl. Carl Shaw 103*, Glen Udall 38 & 41/5

There is so much to celebrate in the month of cricket that has gone in 2024! Here are the highlights!!

OBR 10/127 & 5/155 - Jak Rowe 4/23 off 12
Pure dominance saw two lads score a hundred each in a 235 run second wicket stand! (Pic below from Gis Herald/Jak Rowe credit)

Game 2 vs Horouta and those crisp whites continued to shine brightly!

🏏🏆HSOB LOCKS DOLEMAN CUP UP FOR THIRD TIME IN A ROW🏆🏏

The day dawned hot and sunny and HSOB lads were chomping at the bit for a shot at the three peat. Sporting a line up of strength rarely seen in Gisborne cricket it was HSOB to come out victorious.
Bowling first after OBR chose to post a score. A slow start and a dropped chance or two saw OBR start off well, but a runout off his own bowling to Steve Lamb saw the wheels start wobbling. Carl Shaw knocked off peg out the ground not long after and the boys had a sniff. Couple LBWs for skipper Dave Castle and tight bowling from Anthony Boyder, Keegan Jooste and Dan Torrie meant OBR was restricted to just 161 on a flat one.

With the return of last years top run scorer, Baxter McKay, and returning from injury Ajay Kumar, we wanted a strong m start. What those at Harry Barker witness from the HSOB top three was nothing short of domination. Quality strokes through and over the field smashed the new ball to all parts, and at the fall of the first wicket HSOB were 60/1 and the oppo were reeling. Scott Tallot added a match winning 30 of class and it was Matua Glen Udall, and “Gisbornes Best Cricketer 2022” to finish the batting in style.

HSOB winners, by 5 wickets!

There’s a saying that every dog has his day, and one of HSOB CCs legends, Steve Lamb had his day in the sun on Saturday.
Playing a vaunted OBR side, full of fresh faces and confidence, Lamby produced a CLASSY display of powerhitting, belting 3 fours and 3 sixes! Finishing 39 off just 17🤩🤩 Steves innings took our total to a defendable 157.
With the sun shining on him, and swapping the bat for his bowling boots, Lamby ripped through the OBR top order to claim unreal figures of 3/17 off 5.
We salute you Steve Lamb, MOTM for the premier side!
