In such an uncertain global environment, we are reminded that peace cannot be taken for granted. Thatโs why itโs so important to pass on the value of peace to the next generation, to ensure that the sacrifices and learnings of war are always remembered, and that the ANZAC legacy will forever continue to live on. Here are our future leaders from Knighton Normal School reciting the famous poem โIn Flanders fieldsโ by Canadian Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae. It references the red or Flanders poppy that was the first plant to grow and bloom on the war-torn battlefields in the Belgian region of Flanders, becoming a powerful symbol of war remembrance. Around 4,600 New Zealand soldiers, including many from Hamilton and the Waikato region, were killed in battles at Belgiumโs Flanders fields between 1917 and 1918. โค Ka maumahara tonu taatou ki a raatou. We will remember them. #AnzacDay

Anzac Day, one of New Zealandโs most important national days, marks the anniversary of the first major military action fought by New Zealand and Australia's forces during the First World War.
The day serves as a time for reflection where we show our respect for those who have served, and those who continue to serve, our nation.
Lest we forget. โค

Be part of the conversation and help us shape Hamilton Kirikiriroa. ๐ข
Thereโs only one week left to have your say on our plans for the next 10 years. Your feedback will help shape the future Hamilton Kirikiriroa โ https://www.hamilton.govt.nz/2024-34longtermplan
Feedback closes 21 April 2024.
Hear our Elected Members talk Long-Term Plan 2024-2034.
We understand the proposed rates increases in our draft Long-Term Plan put additional costs on Hamilton households and businesses, in what are already tough times. It's definitely not what we want to be putting on the table. These are significant increases, but they sadly reflect what it costs to run the city.
If you have an idea for how we could or should do that differently, your Elected Members need to hear from you.

This stretch of new road will eventually connect across the area from Peacockes Road and Ohaupo Road (SH3) with strategic services like pipes and cables installed underground and inside the bridges. The crawler crane will start lifting the beams for the central gully crossing bridge before heading down to Christchurch for its next big job.
A friendly reminder to all Hamiltonians ๐ Schools are starting to head back to school this week and this means our roads will become busy at peak times. There will also be more students out walking, biking and on scooters commuting to and from school.
A friendly reminder to all Hamiltonians ๐
Schools are starting to head back to school this week and this means our roads will become busy at peak times. There will also be more students out walking, biking and on scooters commuting to and from school.
It's extremely important to keep our tamariki safe by slowing down around schools and following road patrollers' instructions. Also a reminder that school zones have reduced speeds too!
Enjoy term one everyone!
Bats!
We are batty for bats - check this out! ๐คฉ๐ฃ
We've been lucky to capture some footage of our native bats. There is a huge collaboration between residents, volunteers, and local schools working hard in restoration of the Mangakotukutuku gully. These efforts and large scale predator control contribute to helping these populations of long tailed bats. ๐ฆ
It's super cool to have a population of critically endangered native long tail bats in our gully system here in Kirikiriroa.
ps. don't come for us about the video quality lol
