UWRC want to give a massive shout out to the Otorohanga Premier Woman’s side. Last week after one of our girls suffered a serious leg injury, the Oto girls came to her side with a showing of support and fair play that we sadly don’t see enough of in club sport anymore. Charlee, her whānau and the club wanted to pass on our appreciation for this showing of aroha on the day ❤️

For one of rugby’s absolute champions! A great coach and an outstanding bloke, congrats to Auckland University Rugby Football Club’s Head Coach, Jason “Fritter” McLean on coaching 100 Premier Games tomorrow. A true servant of NZ Universities rugby, Jase has coached a number of players in recent years from our club and a few wanted to pass on best wishes. Go well tomorrow mate!
TWO MORE SLEEPS!!!! The 2024 Season Opener is almost here and what a cracker to kick the season off! It's The Battle of Old Farm Road against our old east side foes Hamilton Marist to get the 2024 season underway. Of course the Men's Premier side will lock horns with the men in green and white in an attempt to win back the coveted Nicol-Mackey Trophy! Played between the two rival teams since 2014, the trophy was named after a stalwart from each side who gave great service to their respective club. The Mackey name is synonymous with Varsity rugby, with the trophy bearing the name of the late Chris Mackey. Chris was the club President 1998-2004 and is a proud Life Member. He also represented the club on the Hamilton Rugby Union for many years. The Mackey name is carried on at the club to this day, with Shannon "Shags" Mackey the current Head Coach of our Colts side. And who can forget the epic 29-all draw from 2022, with Marist claiming the Trophy in an upset win in the deciding boat race!!!!
