Cassels Custom
Custom Furniture and Cabinetry Maker. I'm a one man business, nestled in a workshop on the bush clad hills above Wellington.
I design and make fitted and free standing furniture.
Nice to see the Parklet at Puffin (my latest project) up and running on a beautiful Wellington day.
Not my usual sort of work, but "The Intrepid" needed a cool parklet worthy of the fit-out inside so I stretched myself to make this.
It will have outdoor seating and plants spilling out of all the planter boxes.
Outside finished and painted. Heading inside to slap some white paint around tomorrow.
Workshop paint is all the part buckets of left-over whitesh paint chucked together into one master workshop paint bucket.
Insulated for my warmth and my neighbours quiet, lined with pine ply so I don't have to hunt for studs when I'm putting things on the wall.
I reckon I'm going to paint everything white for better light next.
Got the cladding on today before the rain comes tomorrow. Lots to do though
That's a wrap. All ready for cladding on the outside, and insulation and lining on the inside.
Weekends are hectic, but I managed to sneak some framing up inbetween the madness.
I've made a start at fixing up the workshop.
So far I've dried everything, sorted through the tools (crc'd and dried some), removed all the burnt wall and framing, and got it ready for framing.
It'll be an opportunity to build a robust wall to double as a dust collection cupboard (fire rated) and a clamp storage solution.
FIRE
I cut some panel on my saw today that got very hot and caused the dust in my extractor to smolder. I discovered the smoldering and spread the dust bags out on the back lawn and hosed it all down.
I did a quick check of all my dust pipes and disconnected all the tools before rushing off to get my kids to after school sports.
Fortunately I asked my neighbour to check it for me whilst I was out, and 20 minutes later my dust collector ignited and set the back end of my workshop on fire.
My vigilant neighbour called the fire department and the were here in time to mostly save my workshop.
Never the less it is a big set back and a big lesson learned.
Don't continue cutting materials that smell like they are burning, and certainly don't run dust collection to it if they do.
Don't leave a potential fire hazard until you are 100% satisfied that it is safe.
I will also need to look at a few fire safety improvements.
Some drawers for some very discerning clients.
It's oak veneer on birch ply with white acrylic on birch ply doors.
Tough to get in the tight space. But here is a drawer and shelving cabinet I assembled today. I had to make it as a flat pack and assemble it on site.
Just installed this built in cabinetry and shelves in a beautiful home for some stylish clients. It's in black oak with a matte finish.
Second trolley cabinet delivered. This one is in the same black and Rimu but is longer and lower to function as an entertainment unit or an extra unit for the kitchen at dinner parties.
Just delivered this shoe rack.
Welded steel frame in satin Black with recycled Rimu shelves.
Sunny days are for painting
Outside my comfort zone and enjoying it with some metal
