Got creative in the kitchen yesterday and whipped up some Vietnamese chilli lime sauce using produce fresh from the garden. This batch zings! 🌶🌶🌶

A friend said to me the other day that she didn’t understand what kokedama are. Fair question right? Here’s my take on kokedama and basic care instructions.

Kokedama originated in Japan in the 1600’s as blend of two growing techniques and has often been referred to as ‘poor man’s bonsai’. To break it down another way Koke translates to ‘moss’ and dama ‘ball’, hence we end up with a plant who’s root system is surrounded in a growing medium (potting mix and peat moss) then encased in moss (sphagnam) and bound in string (h**p). With me so far?

Watering a kokedama is a little different than a standard houseplant but still very easy. Simply soak the moss ball, excluding foliage, in a bucket or sink of water for 5 to 10 minutes. Gently squeeze to remove excess water and it’s done!

Kokedama are closely linked to the earth and will break down over time. When this happens compost the string and pop your plant in the garden (dependent on plant type) or a pot or your choosing.

I hope this gives you a little insight in to the unique and beautiful world of kokedama 🪴

Picked these beautiful organically grown calendula and chamomile flowers from my garden yesterday afternoon...

Going to slow infuse the calendula in olive oil, it will be super lovely to use in soap, balms & lotions. The chamomile I’ll use in the evening when I have my ‘chill & unwind’ cuppa. Happy Monday folks 🌻

As promised here is a pic of the patchouli body soap bar I made yesterday, must say it’s looking and smelling fabulous!

Happy New Year everyone!

Got my soaping mojo on today and made a batch of Patchouli, feels great to get the creative juices running again.

This batch is full of luxurious oils and butters, brazillan rose clay and the ageless scent of patchouli.

I used a drop swirl technique and quickly swirled a hanger through before tucking it away to saponify overnight. Can’t wait to cut it and see what’s inside! Will post up some pics tomorrow but in the meantime here’s one of it just after pouring
