It was great to attend the official presentation of the new AED (defib) at Sacred Heart Girls College this week. The AED was donated to the school by Embracing Hearts with the support of Hato Hone St John and Exceed. Many thanks to everyone involved and to the school PTFA for funding the lockbox, it is fantastic to have another AED in the community available 24/7.
To find your closest AED visit www.aedlocations.co.nz or you can download the app.

IT'S FINALLY HERE! THE HAWERA AMBULANCE STATION IS UP!
After many years of fundraising by three St John Hawera Committees and fantastic local support, the new Hawera Ambulance Station will be up and running within the next week.
For all who attended, this was a very special day to take in all the hard Mahi that has been done to get this off the ground. (Ten years of hard work to be correct).
Heather Brokenshire, our Taranaki Chair, who has been part of this from the start, was there to share in the joy of the day. The station was blessed by St John & Ngāti Ruanui.
This means so much to our local community who will benefit and also to the welfare of our incredible St John staff who are out on the front-line saving lives.
THANK YOU!!!

SCARECROW TRAIL
Over the last 3 weeks our Stratford cadets, leaders and a couple of parents have made 3 scarecrows for the Stratford Scarecrow Trail that happens every year.
This was an incentive from one of our Senior cadets Justine Issac, the cadets named the theme "Staying Alive". We have 1 patient on the ground, a cadet doing CPR and another cadet watching on!
This is the 1st time we have entered into the competition, not bad for our 1st time!
This event is run by the Stratford District Council and will officially begin on 27 October, alongside the Taranaki Garden Festival, Fringe Garden Festival, and Taranaki Arts Trail. People go around and find the scarecrow, number and enter it into a competition.

It's October which means it's time for our Shocktober campaign 💛
Last year, we taught life-saving skills to over 10,000 people! 🤩 This year, we’re out and about in our communities on a trip of a lifetime to teach as many people in isolated and vulnerable communities as possible how to save lives. We’re calling it Heartbeat Highway 🚗
Keep your eyes peeled throughout the month to see how you could attend an event near you and for lots of tips on how to perform CPR, use an AED, and even what the best song with the right beats per minute to do CPR is (here's a clue: it's not just the Bee Gees 😉).
DONATION - NEW HAWERA
ST JOHN - AMBULANCE STATION BUILD
Hawera's new long awaited ambulance station is on track to finish at the end of November. The Hawera AC has worked hard fundraising for the new build and on Friday the AC chair Heather and AOM Megan gratefully accepted a donation of $5150 for the new build from the South Taranaki Mayor Phil Nixon. The AC has had amazing support from the community, and we are all looking forward to the official opening early next year.

AMBULANCE CHARGES explained:
Did you know that in a medical emergency, a possible lifesaving trip in a St John ambulance will normally cost you $98?
St John charges patients for some types of ambulance call outs. The amount we charge is a small part of the cost of a call out and is needed to cover our costs. If you’re treated by an ambulance officer and/or transported in an ambulance because of a medical emergency, there is a part charge you have to pay – even if someone else calls the ambulance for you.
If you are a Supporter Scheme subscriber, you don't have to pay this charge. So, get an ambulance membership from St John Supporter Scheme, and for less than the cost of a single emergency ambulance call-out, your whole household can be covered for an entire year. This means if you need us in a medical emergency, we can be there for you – free of charge.
