🌊 A massive THANK YOU to New Zealand Community Trust (NZCT) for their recent grant for our Junior Coach wages! 🙌
Over the years, NZCT's support has helped our young surf sport athletes become the top Oceans team in the country!
Their grants enable us to grow our Ocean Development and Ocean Athlete programs, bridging the gap between Junior and Senior Surf, and preparing our kids to be the lifeguards of the future.
These programs keep our young athletes engaged in sport while teaching them essential lifeguarding and life skills. 🌟🏄♂️
Thank you, New Zealand Community Trust (NZCT)!

Your generous grants have opened up incredible opportunities for more kids to ride the waves of excitement at surf carnivals this year. With every dollar you've invested, you've helped us create unforgettable experiences and memories for our young athletes.
Although it’s one of the youngest clubs in New Zealand, Papamoa Surf Life Saving Club has grown quickly to become one of the largest with almost 900 members.
We were delighted to provide reduced entry fees for each of their carnivals this season with our community grant.
During the 2022/23 season the club performed over 250 preventative actions, 17 rescues from the water, qualified 16 new lifeguards and had almost 2000 primary school students attend the SLSNZ’s beach education program, to name but a few of their impressive results!
With Papamoa boasting the longest stretch of actively patrolled beach in the country, we are incredibly lucky to have Papamoa Surf Life Saving Club keeping beach visitors safe. Learn more about their amazing work here https://papamoalifeguards.co.nz/

AUSTRALIA HERE WE COME!
Seventeen year old Pāpāmoa Surf Lifeguard Zac Cairns is part of the team heading to the Sunshine Coast this week to compete on the international stage at The Aussies. Having never been to the Aussies before, Zac says the trip is all about the experience and enjoying it.
“My goal is to race hard to see how I stack up to my age group and have lots of fun,” he says. “I believe it's going to be a great experience for the team and myself. Though the racing will be tough, it's a great opportunity to see how big this sport is over in Australia.”
The 2024 Australian Surf Life Saving Championships will be held on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland at Alexandra Headland SLSC, Maroochydore SLSC and Mooloolaba SLSC from 13 to 21 April 2024. More than 6000 competitors from Australia's 314 Surf Clubs come together to compete in 480 beach and ocean events over the nine days of action.

Thank you so much to Papamoa College for their ongoing support of our club with their annual m***i day fundraiser 🤙
Mana Waka M***i Day THIS THURSDAY
This term's m***i day will be in support of the Pāpāmoa Surf Life Saving Club. The club has a large active membership passionate about our beach community. Members include members of our Pāpāmoa College staff, our students and our wider school community.
The dedicated (unpaid) lifeguards of PSLSC devote close to 6000 volunteer hours each summer to ensure the safety of our community. Thousands of hours are spent training through our Surf Sports Programme developing lifeguards in an environment that is safe, fun, goal focused and disciplined, enabling our members to achieve their full potential.
Pāpāmoa SLSC volunteers also provide an on-call 24/7 rescue service all year round and support local emergency services when necessary.
We ask that students wearing m***i bring a gold coin donation.

ON THE ROAD TO THE AUSSIES
The countdown is on for our Senior Surf Sports team who head over to Australia on 11th April for the biggest surf lifesaving event in Australasia – The Aussies.
More than 6000 competitors from Australia's 314 Surf Clubs come together to compete in 480 beach and ocean events over nine days of action.
Fifteen of our Pāpāmoa Seniors will be taking part, and we interviewed 16 year old Trelise Chote who is super excited and ready to race.
“I’m feeling well prepared about myself and the team we have going,” says Trelise. “I know it’s going to be tough racing over there, but that’s what makes it more exciting. Going over and experiencing what it’s like to race with the Aussies and showing a different country what our Pap culture can do.”

We are exceptionally proud of our Senior Surf Sport Athletes who competed hard out at the recent New Zealand Surf Lifesaving Championships at Mount Maunganui.
The racing schedule meant some of our athletes raced in 10 or more individual and team events a day from heats through to finals. Courses were long, and on some of the days there were no waves on offer to help with the haul back to shore.
The whole team can be very proud of their achievements with many personal goals met. A huge thanks to Coach Jake Cowdrey for his commitment to this group of young athletes. Thanks to all of our Pāpāmoa officials, water safety and first aid volunteers. Without you this wouldn’t be possible.

This weekend’s weather has been perfect for some last minute training for our Senior Surf Sports team and Masters group as they get ready for their pinnacle event of the season – The New Zealand Surf Life Saving Championships (aka Nationals) on 14-17 March at Mount Maunganui.
This is what they’ve been working towards all season, and with some outstanding results at the recent Eastern and Northern Championships, they’ll be putting everything on the line.
The team have had the privilege of training with Pāpāmoa’s very own ex New Zealand Black Fin Scott Cowdrey who is making a local comeback, taking on the ski and board in the Open category at Nationals next week. For Scott the draw of a local beach was too hard to turn away from.
We’d like to wish the whole team all the very best for the event. As always you can follow the results live on WAVES - https://www.wavesresults.surflifesaving.org.nz/ or why not head down and watch. With 46 clubs competing to be the best in New Zealand, there’s sure to be plenty of action!
HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY to all our surf lifesaving mums, grandmothers, athletes, lifeguards, patrol support, coaches and instructors.
We value you each and every day and the contribution you make to our surf lifesaving family.

Over 200 kids and their families braved the wet and wild weather at the weekend for the annual Junior Surf Club Championships.
From our youngest five years old nippers up to our ocean athletes, it was wonderful to see everyone giving their all to earn those much sort after medals.
A big shout out to our Junior Surf sponsors Body In Motion Health. These Pāpāmoa locals are now in their 5th year of supporting the club, and it’s thank to them that we can run such a comprehensive educational programme for our future lifeguards.
Also a massive THANK YOU to all our amazing volunteer coaches, water safety crew, lifeguards, committee members and everyone who makes it all happen. We couldn’t do this without you!
See you all again next summer!!
