I invite you to pause your doom scrolling for 2mins to remind yourself of your potential. In a world where our attention spans are only getting shorter, I will continue to make longer form content (although the marketing “gurus” tell me not to) in the hope I might positively impact at least one fellow human being. 🔥🔥 #leadership #development #potential #influence

I recently worked with a local government team focused on crafting team culture and maximising individual strengths. When discussing the impact of team beliefs and values, I shared an example from my time in the health and fitness industry of a genuine barrier that blocked people from achieving their goals. I have witnessed this prevent both individuals and teams from reaching success, but it doesn’t have to be that way!

Push through that 3 seconds of discomfort and be a good human. You could make somebody’s day. 🥦🥦

To eliminate the guesswork from leading yourself and others with authenticity and strength, understanding your natural abilities and what makes you excel is a great strategy. Check out this hypothetical conversation featuring a curious 🐑 . It aims to dispel some of the misconceptions that can exist around strength-based development. #leadership #gallup #cliftonstrengths #selfawareness #authenticity #development

There are two abilities that are apparently unique to human beings. 1. Metacognition aka thinking about what you’re thinking about. The ability to study how you think and asking yourself “is this useful thinking”. Rather than being on auto pilot and allowing the situation to control your thinking, take ownership of your thinking. 2. Knowing yourself. Study your natural strengths, weaknesses, motivations and values. Leadership starts with self and that starts with learning what makes you, you! That’s my best definition of self-awareness 🧠 I’m guilty of not always doing it, but I try my best!

I hope this insight can help you with achieving some important stuff in 2024 ❤️

On Friday I had the pleasure of being the closing speaker at the Annual #LAPA2023 Conference at the Copthorne Hotel and Resort, Bay of Islands. LAPA’s annual conference is the leading professional development and networking event for Local Authority Property professionals in New Zealand. I had 60 minutes to share some thoughts on the science and application of the growth mindset and how to consciously shift our perspective around daily challenges. All with the goal of increasing performance, having more fun and improving results in work and life. I’m also grateful I got to take my family for the adventure north. It was an incredible way to spend a long weekend. Thank you #LAPA2023 for having me and a special thanks to @twentytwonewzealand for sponsoring such a great event. #localgovernment #propertynz #keynote #speaking #leadership #growthmindset

How do you define leadership? One definition that clicks with me: “inspiring others to achieve certain outcomes.” Leading others (interpersonal leadership) is only half of the equation, we can’t forget our responsibility to lead ourselves (intrapersonal leadership). Gallup’s ‘Leadership Development Framework’ can help us strengthen and develop in both of these areas: Natural Talent x (Key Experiences + Focused Development) = Leadership Strength Simple formula but a powerful strategy. Here’s to leading others and (just as importantly) ourselves with excellence. #Gallup #Leadership #Leading #Intrapersonal #Interpersonal #Excellence #CliftonStrengths #Coach

Do you know any “quiet quitters”? This is a concept coined and popularised by Gallup to describe specific category of disengaged employees within the workforce. The term emphasises that these employees quietly disengage from their work, often leading to reduced productivity and negative effects on the overall workplace environment. I don’t think this attitude only relates to work though. Last week, when visiting Christchurch, I was talking to a secondary school teacher. When I asked him “what is the biggest challenge your students currently face?” he responded “apathy”. He went on to share behaviour which sounded almost identical to an employee who is lacking engagement. The more I reflect on it, the more I think that “quietly quitting” is behaviour that could show up anywhere – homelife, school, work or even within our own individual well-being and health. Gallup suggests that a “quiet quitter” can thrive at work with a better manager. So who in your life is in need of a better manager or better management strategies? By acknowledging their presence, we can open doors to communication, offer support, and work towards re-engagement. Just like in the workplace, understanding individual needs and motivations can help us unlock their potential for growth and positive change. Increasing engagement and connection should be a universal goal, not one simply limited to work. I hope this insight can also be useful for you and those you care about. #leadership #management #influence #engagement #gallup #thriving
