Waikato Cowboy Dressage Group

Cowboy Dressage is a discipline that combines elements of traditional western riding with classical dressage. It is suitable for all horse breeds and sizes.

It is a fun, relaxed way to find the 'soft feel,' while training your horse in a harmony.

Happy New Year everyone! Yes we will be having clinics this year and Yes!! I am going to get busy and organise something for later in the month! Also, I haven't forgotten about our wee group ride. Might have to make it an evening one at the moment. Beautiful days and long evenings make for some great saddle time! Take care and watch this space.

Here is another beautiful freestyle to music video. The music is slower and that is probably the key to a successful ride-maybe? it does give us something to aim for especially the sideways movements. For myself, I am trying to get Molly to remain forward while not speeding up and it's all about my hand position and leg movements. Watch this video and comment on your riding goals if you want to. This will help us to focus our goals and support each other.

Hi everyone. We are so disappointed to have cancelled our August clinic however I am hopeful for an October one or maybe even a September one if we are allowed. In the meantime, here is the program for the Rotorua Club's Spring competition. If things are going to plan it would be a great one for us to go and watch. I might go and take Miss Molly for a laugh. Let me know if you want to tag along and we can make a day of it. See you soon, fingers crossed, Janene.

Dressage vs Western 30/07/2021

This is my absolute favourite video. The quality is not great but watch it anyway. There are quite a few videos like this so search them out. It clearly shows the differences between Cowboy and Western Dressage and English Dressage-watch the riders hands and the horses head.

Well done to all the participants of our first Waikato Cowboy Dressage Group-clinic. The fabulous Christine Stewart came along put us through our paces. It was great to see so many people involved. Here are some photos that hubby took. Sorry if he didn't get all of you but hopefully next time.

20/05/2021

Here she is! Our trainer for Sunday-the fabulous Christine Stewart in full teaching mode. This was taken at Equi-fest last year when the Rotorua group were invited to do a demonstration for the crowds.

16/05/2021

We have a few of our clinic participants unable to make it so if you're interested contact me and I can add your name to the list. I will then send you the details. Love to see you.

14/05/2021

Just a reminder to those who are coming to our clinic next weekend-your payment is due in order to secure your place. See ya there!

08/05/2021

We are good to go! I have sent the first participants of our inaugural Waikato Cowboy Dressage Clinic a message. Please respond and then I will create a group. Don't fret if you have missed out because we are aiming to grow our club so there will be another every month. (Photo for attention..hehe)

06/05/2021

We've had a great response to or introductory clinic on May 23rd. I will be messaging the confirmed participants this week with more details and payment details etc. Hopefully we won't have any weather issues. Fingers crossed on that one! Currently our numbers are full, however, if we have some changes I will let you all know and if you missed out, we will do it again next month!

02/05/2021

Yay! Our first introductory clinic is filling up fast. We only have a few spots left so if you're keen push going and I will be in touch with more details regarding payments etc.

Principles of Cowboy Dressage
“Soft Feel is the guiding principle of Cowboy Dressage™. It is a wordless, intimate and for some a spiritual communication within the partnership between horse and rider. Soft feel is not only sending messages but having the sensitivity and awareness to feel and receive the message the horse sends back.
The timing and use of the Release, Relaxation, Preparation and Ex*****on are the basic fundamentals of Soft Feel.”

We believe that in order to create the ultimate horse we have to be the ultimate partner for that horse. By working to improve communication with the horse through soft feel we aim to create a working partner that is soft and willing and capable and able to take on any job on the ranch or in the arena. We honor the try in the horse and the human.

Cowboy Dressage ~ We are “Always Rewarding The TRY” so Come Try With Us!

Great advice

"Take your reins like a flower, not like a stone. Take your horse by your waist and by your seat, not by your hand and never by force. If you do it by force, it is not the art of riding, it is something else." ~ Nuno Oliveira
