Recap on the 573R (Hēnare) Opening Night Paradise Valley Speedway 8/11/24

Fired up Hēnare Thursday night thanks to Mtech Evos and his space his help he offered us to prep. As always a top team!! half our crew Dad/Mike/4EVA aka Rob/Kodak with the kuzzy having work commitments we had no choice too suck it up chipping in with what we had planned. From oil changes to nut and bolt checks, traveling to go get parts/fuel/admin fees and spares.sign writing you name it, it was all happening!

Our sponsors coming in clutch with the funds we needed to get there!! Ultra thankful! But it wasn't guna be......or was it?

Couple of main ingredients i was yet to be struck with.

Friday lunchtime loaded the 573R Superstock on Mike's trailer as our one was having abit of issues so I didn't want to add that into the picture. Packed up and left for Vegas, stopping by our shed for last minute checks to see if we had everything...I didn't....

At this time the brother Dane flew into the country and dad was on the job to pick him up at the air port.

I sure had alot going on in the brain, un balanced from a ear infection and blockage, to a burned hand from the winch, no excuse i nearly let the Team down.

The convoy left the shed and we started the climb in BarryCrump the Lux,lugging away we hit okere falls, to fix a strap that came loose.
Quick check again and away we went, pulling upto the track around 4pm

We had two things that needed to be done asap, so off the trailer Hēnare came and into it. Removing Headers and power steering hose off the right side to install our pedal cover, power steering fluid in and a re calibration done, then proceeded to attack the race belts, and hello what did I forget.... the centre belt....

Stress levels started to climb, with what I now needed was family and friends coming down to show support which was a god send to keep us/me calm.

Daneo/Dad/Kodak/4EVA doing all they can, with a slack tool box they made it happen.

Me searching for the belts I dropped the tool box off the back of the ute🙃 not letting it get to me i just blocked that out and picked it up later.

Scratching my head on how I could possibly get some belts I made some phone calls to no avail, and sucked it up to start asking, and thankfully the Hunter whanau(Dwayne)had us sorted, So kodak and lil hunter young fulla went to go pickup belts,mud guards and few simple things we kept on moving forward. The crowd must have been watching all these bodies in and out the car around it etc like wow man haha, what a rush!! belts arrive and the brother Daneo jumped into sort it out. Clock started to tick faster, with us having to get 573R to green sheeting.

Was looking slim and then our new sponsor Andrew at Supreme Fabrication ltd turned up and got stuck in, attaching the my laps/checking pressures etc, having to risk it cause we had no air line to bump up some numbers we needed a 19mm deep socket asap for our belt.... I was like a headless chook. Searching to find nothing we had.....right.... Back over to Gary and Dan to ask for help, and they sure did,so thankful.

With 7mins to go till deadline we shot over to green sheeting. Passed!!

Back around after the second check, we dummy strapped me in and the stress left. But guess what it came back 100 times the safe level... off to go sign off the racegear I realized I had forgot my racesuit....(rookie)

Calling it done was my initial thought but
Paper scissor rock was the game for me and my brother, cause I was actually done with asking for this and that.

I lost the game 🤣😅
So over to the hunters trailer again, and Tina found a couple pairs, thank you!!

With my sister and my neff making sure I was hydrated and calm alex and a few others being kids asking for stickers and the Raponi whanau coming down to wish me luck and sending the love was much needed! Much love to everyone the bros the fans our sponsors who i didn't want to let down.

With now what we needed Ran back over to get them signed off and I came back to 2 more pairs I could possibly fit, thanks again Aye Dwayne and the bro next to us, big thank you to SNZ and The Rotorua stockcar club for getting us signed off and allowed us to continue as the superstocks started to line up i got in the seat and had Andrew at Supreme on one end of the socket rob and dane on the tail end strapping me in while asking him,can I make some noise!! Fark yeah he goes! Get out there!!

Superstocks literally left as we backed out to head out the gate. With a final belt check from the officials we made it out!!

Choosing to start off the back being our first practice of the year.

Drove around checking the gauges/breaks and tear offs. I had only one on haha.

RACE 1 Group 1 Grid 18 Finished 14th

Being happy to just plot away on making sure car was doing the right things we backed off around spins and clashes picking up a couple spots, feeling better i drove the Super deep... too deep and fought some washing out and understeer. Trying to compensate I had to break a little harder to get it hooked up to get the 573R into the turns, with a angry pack hot on my heels I was going to try hold my line. Couple of errors and tangles opened the door for some places and picked up 14th

drove back in the gate with oil coming from over flow, and diagnosed it as over fill. Changing both front wheels as we left on the shed ones on we put some fresh buggers on.

RACE 2 Group 1 Grid 17 Finished 11th

Getting a good start i was on the back of the Supers spinning myself on lap one. Slow to exit off the grass i had to play practice mode

Got stuck in and pushed on to make some passes, catching up on some errors and clashes we were looking good. Then our steering box left the chat 🤣 unaware of this. I took it in hot into turn 3 and spun up onto the pole line out if 4 stalling the engine, getting clipped and smashed our front drum catcher,

Cranking over it re fires and pushed past the line on the last lap. 11th) all up 29 points

With the damages which were now showing in the pits we called it a night for Race 3.

What a awesome attendance and a spectacular event!!

Definitely need to get my ducks in a row for next weekend.

RR shock came loose on the way home, so glad it didn't do that on track,

Abit to get rolling again,but its pad and a pen time!!

After what seems an eternity, it is the 2024/2025 Season opening night this Friday at TWS Paradise Valley Speedway, Rotorua.
