A big welcome to Chappie, our newest member of the GrowProbe team. He is our full time support and well-being helper.

I’m always inspired by the beauty of ferns unfurling 😍

The Koru, which is the spiral shape the ferns create as they unfurl, was one of my first concepts for the GrowProbe! It signifies growth in Māori traditions, which just seemed so fitting as that’s what the GrowProbe is designed to help with🪴Although I didn’t end up using the koru design, I still find myself taking photos of them

I’m that crazy lady taking photos of plants on the side of the street 😅 I was quite happy with how this particular photo turned out!

Happy Monstera Monday! 🌿

These big beauties got the cut! ✂️ If you're looking to tame your Monstera or make it bushier rather than leggy, I highly recommend the art of pruning.

Here's a quick guide:
1. Decide how much you want to trim and visualize your plant's new look—it'll guide your pruning.
2. Use clean secateurs for a precise cut just above the last leaf node.
3. Don't toss those cuttings—propagate them in water!

Once those cuttings have healthy roots, you can pot them back into the mother plant. Personally, I find that 3-4 plants per pot is the perfect arrangement! 😊

All of these luscious ZZ’s (Zamioculcas Zamiifolia) have been grown using the GrowProbe!

How? Well, I treat them like succulents, they hold a lot of moisture in their leaves, stems and tubers which sit underneath the soil, so they love to be dried out. Once the soil is dusty dry give them a deep watering. How do you check the soil?? Well the best way to check is using a GrowProbe 👍🏽

Checking your soil moisture is a must-do before watering, whether you’re using the GrowProbe your finger or a chop stick, or the weight test it can save you months of trying to rehabilitate an overwatered plant 🪴

The GrowProbe is the only moisture meter you need to keep your plants healthy and thriving, and better yet you only need the one 🪴

It’s also a great tool for checking if you’re watering throughly and evenly. To do this probe your plant again 30mins after watering to make sure the whole soil profile is wet. If the bottom notch is still dry, chances are you haven’t watered enough 💦

If you’re someone who is splashing in a little bit here and there, the roots at the bottom of the pot most likely aren’t getting their quota of water, which can lead to root desiccation (drying up) and shallow root growth. Signs of this could be dull leaves, wrinkling stems and slow or no new growth.

Let's talk dirty 🪴

Analyzing soil isn't as complex as it may seem. It's simply about observing what you see and feel. However, it can greatly impact knowing the right time to water.

The first clue is when you insert the GrowProbe into the soil. Does it feel dense? If so, there's probably some moisture present.

The next clue comes from the color of the soil samples. If it falls off the probe as you pull it out, appearing dusty and light-colored, it's safe to assume it's dry.

However, if the soil sticks to the probe, leaving muddy streaks and is darker in color, it's likely moist.

The third clue is crucial. If it's not obvious or you're unsure, use two fingers to rub the soil and feel for moisture. If it feels cold, similar to damp clothes, it's safe to assume it's moist but nearing dryness.

With practice, it becomes easier to analyze and make confident decisions within seconds.
