One year on
almost to the hour
on the eleventh day
of the eleventh month
you left us
full of memories
one year on
we are
still here
remembering

Much love to all

Barefoot Bill
carries generations
of Russell children
generously, mostly for free
across the bay
always safely
with banter to greet
before taking a seat
shared the run and the fun
always a salute
a mutual tribute
will be better to see
Bill, back on deck.

The experiment

Land of the long scrolled macchiato lightly stained copy
the Treaty Tiriti
kept under lock and key
a cup of flat white with a lid
long time hid
In an archive
kept alive
by those above ground.

The ink on the parchment dried
the ones who signed since died
the document still well alive
Signatures scrawled straight
those there, now a portrait
those present on the day
Signed or not, after having their say
It started at Waitangi on one day
sharpen the pencil correct the stencil
of what was writ, be more accurate
to share the tear a drop
from clouds over a long land
a gift
Aotearoa

Titewhai
such a quiet day
when you left
door still open
e hoa korero or hikoi hiking
an issue without tissue
cup of tea " always in china"
so many found her
more adorable
never ignorable
admirable
indefatigable
Titewhai giggling
always tickling the pakeha
My Waitangi Day

a head to roll
Harawira
holds the floor
so in awe
her tangi, we all need to adore

Kororāreka

What's the hassle
sharing of Russell
taken from an imaginary place
swept under the blanket
the mistakes
Kororāreka te mana
Russell little consequence
not once touching the shoreline
Kororāreka has a storyline
Okiato returned almost immediately
or Old Russell alternatively
Kororāreka taken in 1844
Auckland Capital in 1841
What is taking so long
to right this wrong?

It has been a month of total exhilaration.
To those that firstly read, then said,
how much you have enjoyed my poetry.
That it has touched you is for you to acknowledge you are part of this village and my life.
For that I say thankyou

More to follow !

With great excitement and with the support of friends and family. I am thrilled to release this collection of poetry. Thanks to Murray Williams for his encouragement and ongoing support and the title! Sue Fitzmaurice, Author from Rebel Books for being "my publisher" helping each step of the way. Colette for her efforts on the screen and for believing in me. Bill Elliot for the cover photo. My lineage of ancestors knowing we all have something special in us. To my father Roy, for giving me such a width of experience all of which have stood me well. So here it is! Make sure in your bookshelf you have Got it!
