Help us. We're stuck!
There's fundraiser for our local school next month.
We have these two boards being built right now but we have no idea which one to donate for the silent auction.
Board 1 is a 5'10" skorpion 4+1 made of western red cedar, Pawlonia and macrocarpa
Board 2 is a 5'3" atlantis 5-fin set up made entirely of new zealand cedar.
Give is your thoughts!
It's been a bit cold lately and lots of laminating to do.... so a move from the workshop to the office to catch up.
Really happy with how rimu, a native , looks under lamination.
Thanks for your patience , some finished snaps coming up and a road trip to deliver.
We love creating experiences!
Recently, a customer called to tell us that his son, who loves surfing, was turning 13.
For his birthday, he thought it would be a great idea to invest in a board building kit so he and his grandfather, a , could create a together.
So, we talked through some options and came up with a board the whole family can use.... a 4+1 skorpion, coming in at 6'10".
A few weeks later, the kit and build guide was packed up and on its way to their workshop.
Can't wait to see progress photos!
One half of our shapers, Tony , got back in the workshop today after some family time .
Here's one of his waves at restaurants and another of his 11yo son in the swimming pools madness.
Welcome back to getting dusty and working on a custom and another he likes to call the triangle .
Who thinks he's sloppy with his glue ups?
Rails are one of a number of important parts of a board that contribute to its performance.
Here's a sneak peak during the construction process this week that demonstrates how we ensure we get the desired rail shape for every board we make, every time.

After almost a month off of tools spending time with family and enjoying the summer holidays, we're back into it.
An easy day today on the , setting fin boxes, making and setting leash plugs and first coats.
We're looking forward to 2022 and working with our local customers, others across beautiful and the world.
Shaper has been busy in the bay this week.
One ATLANTIS down, 2 to go.
This will be such a fun board in the smaller summer waves. Heaps of tail lift and carry through the flat sections.
Always surprised how well epoxy clear coats can bring out the grain in the dullest of wood.
This 6'6 single fin is coming together!
The cedar were a last minute decision. After seeing a couple offcuts in the bucket and laying them out I was curious what it would look like. After bit of and a few wood clamps, here we are.
80 grit once over top and bottom. Next few days will need nose and tail blocks make, shape, install plus fin and leash plug install
Current weight: 2.7kg (5.9lbs)
The ATLANTIS frame looks so good!
Today's progress on the 6'6".
Tell us what you think. What would you do differently?
I like the pin stripes but think the next board with this design will be integrated much closer to the tail.
Today's issue - Planing and rasping the internal rail stringers tasks time and patience. They are an important part of the frame so the rail strips have a decent surface to be glued on.
Oh and are coming in very handy!
Progress on the 6'6" single fin today.
I'm surprised by the contrasting look. These are 6mm (1/4") strips of and 3mm (1/8") of .
Also added the pawlonia blocking to the tail. This will help us to router an insert for the box fin.
