Hawke's Bay Power Consumers' Trust

A payment of $240 will be made to Napier and Hastings power account holders who registered their details for the 2023 Hawke’s Bay Power Consumers’ Trust dividend, by Thursday 16 November. This includes power account holders whose registered details have not changed from previous years.

You can expect to receive the payment direct to your nominated account from today, Friday 24 November 2023.

If you haven’t yet registered, or if your bank account or address details have changed in the past 12 months, you will need to register your correct information at www.hbpct.co.nz to receive payment. If you register from today, you will still receive your dividend payment, but payment will be made in the coming weeks.

All information, including frequently asked questions, is available on the Trust website at www.hbpct.co.nz. For those who can’t get online, information and support to register is available on Free Phone 0800 535 738.

At its annual public meeting on 27 July, the Hawke’s Bay Power Consumers’ Trust (HBPCT) announced they had received a $15.8million dividend payment from UNL.

Trust Chair, Diana Kirton, announced the rise in dividend payments following the Trust meeting on Monday 8 August.

“This year the Trustees have raised the dividend payment to $240 with tax credits attached” said Kirton. “Our focus has always been on increasing the dividend return to the consumer shareholders. Unison’s steady performance throughout the pandemic has allowed us to confidently respond to some of the questions raised at our annual public meeting. Not only are we able to redistribute funding previously allocated to insulation projects, but also use some of the Trust’s reserves to support the dividend increase”.

𝙏𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙥𝙖𝙮𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙗𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙩𝙤𝙩𝙖𝙡 𝙙𝙞𝙧𝙚𝙘𝙩 𝙛𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙞𝙖𝙡 𝙗𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙛𝙞𝙩 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙨𝙪𝙢𝙚𝙧𝙨 𝙝𝙖𝙫𝙚

The cut-off date for determining who is eligible for a payment is 30 September 2022. All those power consumers in Hawke’s Bay who are connected to Unison’s electricity network on that date will receive one payment per connection, with a maximum of three payments for any one customer. “Every year there are a handful of customers affected by this date. Some customers commence a new connection a few days after the cut-off and therefore are not eligible to receive a payment. For others it works in their favour,” Kirton said.

Further dates to check direct credit registration, or register for the first time, will be widely advertised following this date.

Hawke’s Bay Power Consumers’ Trust announce dividend from Unison Networks

The Hawke’s Bay Power Consumers’ Trust (HBPCT) have received notice of a dividend payment from Unison Networks of $15.8m for the 2021/22 financial year. “Unison Networks has navigated the challenges of a pandemic world incredibly well over the last two years, keeping the company on a steady path to growth whilst maintaining a strong focus on a building a sustainable future” said Trust Chair, Diana Kirton.

“The company has delivered a good financial result despite the labour and supply disruptions experienced worldwide during this time”. “The Trust is working closely with Unison’s directors over this time to ensure the power consumers’ best interests are always front of mind” said Kirton.
“Trustees are pleased to see the level of dividend has been maintained along with continued growth in the business”. The announcement of a $15.8m dividend to the shareholders reflects the prudent management of the company over this period. The Trust will determine the dollar value of this year’s consumer dividend payments at its next meeting on 8 𝘼𝙪𝙜𝙪𝙨𝙩 2022.

Trustees recognised and noted the focus and attention being placed on Unison’s strategy for growth, investment and innovation, which aims to secure Unison’s financial position while increasing a return for its shareholders. “The Trust keeps a close relationship with the Directors of Unison and is supportive of investments that will ultimately yield greater returns to the consumer shareholders into the future”, said Kirton.

All power consumers connected to Unison Networks in the Napier and Hastings region will this year benefit from one dividend payment per connection, with a maximum of three payments for any one customer. “It’s an honour to represent the power consumers of Napier and Hastings and to be able to announce that once again, our consumers continue to benefit from this locally owned investment.”

💡 Dividend cheques no longer an option for Hawke’s Bay Power Consumers’ Trust

A dividend payment of $230 will be paid to all power consumers in Hawke’s Bay who are connected to Unison Networks Limited (UNL). This annual dividend payment from the Hawke’s Bay Power Consumers’ Trust (HBPCT) has remained stable over the
past financial year. “This is a pleasing result considering the challenging year that was experienced in 2020” said Trust Chair, Diana Kirton. The dividend will be paid to consumers in late November.

“The company has returned a $15.8million dividend to the Trust this year which the Trust will be passing on to consumers. This means the direct financial benefits consumers have received from Trust ownership since 1999 will be more than $219million. Our commitment is to return the dividend directly back to the
Hawke’s Bay power consumers and this is what we are doing, said Kirton.

The cut-off date for determining who is eligible for a payment is 30 September 2021. The cheque will NOT be in the mail The Trust now faces a new challenge as the legendary annual “Power Trust Cheque” is forced to become a thing of the past as banks no longer accept cheques. Diana Kirton has announced that the only way the Trust can distribute the dividend payment now is by direct credit. NO MORE CHEQUES is the message for 2021.

“The Trust could see this coming 2 years ago and commenced the process of encouraging power consumers to register for the direct credit option of payment. As a result, 67% already receive their dividend direct to their bank accounts” said Kirton. “This has given them the benefit of earlier payment, no bank queues and no lost cheques. Our challenge now is to capture the remaining 33% of power consumers to ensure every eligible power consumer in Hawke’s Bay receives the benefit of the
dividend payment”.

💡 Direct credit registration and update process.

The Trust will commence an awareness campaign in late August to ensure consumers are ready to go when the registration portal opens on 18 October. People will then have 4 weeks to register for direct credit or check their details if they have registered previously. “We would love to see 100% of Unison customers receive their dividend payment in this effortless manner. The registration process is quick and easy and there will be plenty of support provided to assist anyone who struggles with it” said Kirton.
