A note from our founder, Amy:
Over the past year or so, I've been splitting my time between The Bay of Islands and Auckland, trying to balance my wellbeing with the job that I love. I've had some time to consider my life and what's next. I'm both excited for the changes ahead and feel the pinch of the unknown. To fully create the life I want I've made the decision to look for a new owner for the business.
The Sustainable Food Co. has been a dream that I made into a reality with a clear vision, determination, support, sweat, tears and love. Our kitchen, our team and the events we've catered for have been some of the most beautiful, exciting and challenging times beyond my wildest dreams.
It's been an incredible journey from the very beginning, cooking out of my Dad's kitchen in January 2020. We quickly became known for our creative menus and commitment to sustainability, catering for weddings, yoga retreats, corporate events all over Auckland, even catering for Jacinda Ardern, Chlöe Swarbrick and a bunch of NZ's best musicians. We quickly grew to become the cherished and preferred plant-based caterer in Auckland.
Looking back, I'm so proud of what we've achieved together. We have catered for over 1000 events, fed more than 50,000 people, and eliminated more than 85,000 single-use plates, bowls, napkins, cutlery and behind-the-scenes packaging from landfill. We have saved 7,384KG of CO2 equivalent emissions by delivering orders in our EV, delivered 24 Fine Dining Private Chef Experiences and led 10 cooking classes, all while navigating the ups and downs of running a business during a global pandemic.
While we look for a new owner, it's business as usual for us. The team is on board with this change, and we're all committed to making this transition as smooth as possible.

Did you know you can request an Impact Certificate for your catering event?
Here’s an example of one for GenTrack, a customer who we’re catering for tomorrow.
Simply by ordering vegetarian and vegan catering, GenTrack are saving 124KG of carbon equivalent emissions from entering our atmosphere compared to if they had ordered the meat-based equivalent.
How do we calculate this, I hear you say??
We’ve taken ingredient-specific carbon emission data from a 2020 study from the University of Otago and entered it into our recipe spreadsheet to calculate the emissions created for each menu item. We calculated this stat to be transparent with you - as sustainable as we like to think we are, at the end of the day we are still having an impact on our environment (which we are reducing year on year).
Then we’ve duplicated the spreadsheet, substituted key plant-based ingredients for meat (e.g we subbed the tofu for chicken, and falafel for beef) and calculated it again to provide us with the total amount of carbon saved. As you can see in this Impact Certificate, the carbon saved (124kg) is much higher than the carbon created (26.5kg) which is the impact we’re trying to share with people and this in itself if something to celebrate.
