Especially to the mums that relentlessly nag their children to brush! 👏
Keep up that nagging, it works 🌟
Tidy up time for the underside of the unit 😅
My helper ist much help 🤦♀️
Almost 2 hours later 🤩🤩
This baby tooth needed a little help to come out 💪
Spring clean on the unit today with my not so little helper 😎

They arrived 😍
Early morning start getting to The Dental Expo today in Auckland.
Check out the dress made of curaprox toothbrushes!
No that is not a lolly jar, that’s a floss jar, and yes we have ordered one 😍
Love making teeth look like new 🥰🦷
Resus refresher day for both of us this morning.
All set up and ready to start seeing students tomorrow.
3rd year at Matamata College, looking forward to seeing some familiar faces and beautiful teeth.
Seeing students coming back with cleaner mouths and seeing them a lot more relaxed in the dental chair makes it all worth it 🦷🥰
1 more week until we will be at Matamata College 🥳
If you have a student attending that hasn’t seen a local dentist in the last year and you would like them checked - we are happy to see them.
Happy Easter!
We finished up Morrinsville College yesterday - see the before and after pic for some of what we got up to on the last day.
You can clearly see the cavity on the side of the tooth, but what you can’t see is the cavity on the front of the tooth (in between the molar and premolar).
Remember - eat the easter eggs, just make sure you brush and floss 🪥
You’ll find us at Matamata College term 2.
Teacher strike days are adventure days for us
Yesterday we headed off to Paradise Valley Springs to hang out with the lion cubs 😍😍😍
Yes we did have a few ideas of how we were going to get one in the car and bring it back with us. Imagine a lion as a therapy pet onboard the unit 😂😍🫣
Another one for the assistants out there.
I dunno how we would get treatment done without their tongue wrangling skills 😎
Sneak peak of what arrived 😍
This piece of equipment is how we make whitening trays for our take home whitening kits.
🦷🦷🦷
Birthdays all round on the unit today 🎂
Makes it easy to remember birthdays when both ours are on the same day 😎
Geographic tongue 👅
Ever heard of it?
If you have it you'll no doubt know how annoying (or I should say burning) it can be especially when you enjoy citrus fruits or spicy foods.
It looks like a 'map' on your tongue and generally isnt much to be too worried about, however - as with anything mouth related you should seek an opinion from a dental professional and keep a regular eye on it.
This one is for the assistants out there 😂😂

All set up and ready to see some beautiful teeth 🦷
We hope everyone is keeping safe with cyclone Gabrielle giving the country a hard time.
Once the wind settles we can get our unit into our first school for the year.
We will be located here:
https://www.facebook.com/StarfishSocialServices
If you have a teenager attending Starfish Social Services and they haven't already had their free dental check, please send them over to our unit (or feel free to call in to organise an appointment) and we can help your teenager keep their mouth healthy.
**Before and after pics of a scale and polish we did on a teenager. Love seeing results!
It’s no secret that good oral hygiene is the easiest and most cost effective way to keeping your mouth healthy for life.
Want to keep your teeth for life: brush morning and night, floss daily, and have your teeth professionally cleaned at least yearly.
Set up day at Matamata College 🦷
If you have a student at Matamata College who hasn’t had a dental check in the last year we would love to see them onboard our mobile unit.
Check out the before and after pics.
1st photo is on arrival. Yes those white patches are biofilm on the gums.
2nd photo is 2 weeks later, while we still don’t have perfect oral hygiene it’s much better and the gums are clean!
What is biofilm?
That’s the sticky white/yellow gunk that accumulates on teeth and is full of bacteria.
Those bacteria are the ones that cause decay and gum disease.
If you control biofilm you control disease.
What to expect when you are seen for a check up:
X-rays - generally we take 2 X-rays, 1 of each side.
Not only are we looking for decay we are also monitoring bone levels, placement/absence of teeth, and abnormalities.
Sometimes we need to take more X-rays or different types of X-rays to view specific things.
A thorough check - we aren’t just looking at teeth. We look at gums, cheeks, lips, tongue, every corner of the mouth as such. We are looking for subtle changes.
Occlusion - we check how your teeth bite together, where the teeth are, whether there is enough room for proper eruption or are the teeth crowded together.
We check for wear facets that may indicate a nocturnal habit of teeth grinding.
Teeth cleaning - (now this is a biggie for me)
Scaling and polishing is one of the most important parts for prevention.
When we detect any tartar build up we scale it off then polish to remove any soft deposits your teen may have missed with their toothbrush. All of our patients have their teeth cleaned.
Fluoride treatment (if needed) - we use a fluoride varnish that is simple to apply and very effective in helping reverse early decay.
* Getting the basics right and keeping a healthy mouth is your best defence against needing fillings or developing gum disease.
Should a teenager still go for their yearly checkups if they are under the care of an orthodontist.
That’s a very common question we get asked, and the answer is YES!
We still need to be keeping their mouth as clean as possible (and this can be hard with braces on). We need to be monitoring for early signs of disease and early decay.
We still need to be checking, taking X-rays, cleaning teeth and providing treatment as necessary.
It’s that time of the year again when we are collecting for students in need.
If you have any new toiletries sitting around, if you have toiletries from Xmas presents you won’t use, or if you just want to be a legend and put some in your trolley at your next shop - we are looking to round up a heap.
A little goes a long way
Happy Valentines Day 🥰
We had our 1st week back at Morrinsville College on board our little white box.
We are squeezed in between the buildings - perfect spot.
There has been some beautiful teeth this week 🥰
