This exhibition looked fabulous when I visited today. Frank Sun it would be great if you could share this post
Sad to hear of the passing of Hugh Willis. He leaves behind a wonderful legacy of tracks and reserves for us and future generations to share
Just heard from Watercare who are currently completing the new Mairangi Bay Pumping station. The sea wall was breached leaving debris on the reserve at the bottom of Montrose Terrace by the beach. Clean up teams are starting to clear and reinstate the area
As long as you are prepared to sift out the plastics , polystyrene and other rubbish this reasonable quality kelp and seaweed which would be great for composting is available to pick up now in Murrays Bay by the bus stop.
Save it going to to the land fill and save on tipping costs!
Some stairs have ended up at the base of our Possum's Ladder stairway in Campbells Bay which remained unscathed. Locals believe Toni van Tonder and George Wood that they could be the missing stairway from Kennedy Park. Also they say signage is needed at Kennedys Park.

Please people it is not right to just dump your fridges, tyres and household rubbish on private or for that matter public land. I've just had a call from a business in owner in the Browns Bay industrial area who was hugely impacted by Friday's storm. He's come to work to find his carpark full of dumped rubbish. He's devastated.
If you have storm damaged and storm related rubbish you must ring 0800 22 22 00 to arrange free disposal at one of the transfer stations. Or if you are insured give your insurer a call. That's the advice we have been given
Looking at the situation on Friday and again seeing the extent of the damage yesterday there seemed to be a couple of contributing factors. We have already raised the issue with our Healthy Waters team.
As you can see Mairangi Bay Village has copped a lot of flooding. If the rain continues at this pace high tide could present a lot more issues.
Please do not drive through the centre . The waves created are causing greater flooding of local businesses.
Santa has arrived in Green Gables! Bring the kids down to meet him until 1pm at Santa’s Surf Shack!
Many of you, from the calls I'm receiving, are making your decision about who to vote for in the upcoming Local Body elections .I would like to introduce our Bays team to tell you a little about themselves and why it's important to elect the whole team to deliver the ambitious action plan we have set out to achieve.
Nice to see our own duck blue little library in Mairangi Bay featured in this morning's Herald
Out campaigning with our team so many people have expressed concern about the new National Policy Statement on Urban Development and how it could affect their neighbourhood . Like other central government National Policy statements the council is obliged to work within these guidelines unless there are extenuating circumstances. Auckland Council is currently seeking submissions on their response to this statement as well as central government's Medium Density Residential Standards and its called Plan Change 78..
To see how your property could be affected look at the PC78 viewer on the Auckland Council website. It's really easy to use but there's even a video on how to use the viewer
It is not too late to make a submission but submissions do close on 29 September. You can do a submission online or print off a hard copy and post it or drop it off to your nearest library or service centre.
My husband and I are making a submission. It's easy to do and it's really important to engage with the process and if you have any, express your concerns .
One of the real concerns people have been raising with our the Bays team is community safety . Making our community safer can be done in cost effective and simply implemented ways.
Here's a great example . Earlier this year the Sherwood Dairy was ram raided causing real community alarm and particularly amongst the shop keepers in the block of shops.
Firstly we contacted Auckland Transport who increased the lumination of their lights overlooking the car park.
Then we asked our partners at North Harbour Community Patrol to look at the situation and they suggested trimming the trees that were hiding the public views of the back of the shops. Look at the difference!
We also asked them to increase their community patrols of the area. We asked our local Community Constable to visit the area too to offer further advice and support to the shop keepers
Safety solutions don't have to be expensive.
team # Backing the Bays is committed to addressing the issues around Community Safety

Just to let everyone know that after receiving a concern about the limited time of 30 minutes allowed for disabled parking outside the Browns Bay library which I forwarded on , staff have reviewed the situation and removed the time restriction. Plenty of time now for you all to just enjoy our recently upgraded library !
Let me introduce to our Backing the Bays team for the Hibiscus & Bays Local Board.
Together we can make a real difference!
I have had complaints about people taking dogs into the enclosed children's playing area in Mairangi Village. There is a sign making it clear that dogs are not allowed there on the gate. If you see dogs in there please ring the Council Call Centre on 09 301 0101. Thank you.
Loved this story in today's Guardian from the UK.
New Zealand’s weird and wonderful vaccine rollout The government is using an array of sweeteners, gimmicks and incentives to raise inoculation rates, including turning a 787 Dreamliner into a vaccination clinic
Interesting to see how others saw our Super Saturday Vaxathon

Wonderful to have Richard Nahi as the kaumatua at today's official reopening of our Browns Bay library. Great to see the team there from the Browns Bay Chinese Society with Richard and Frank Sun from the Long Bay Residents' Association
Come down to the Village Green in front of the library to take part in this free event of story and song being staged by well known producer Tim Bray before tomorrow's Browns Bay Santa Parade between 3.30 and 4.15. Come dressed as your favourite book character perhaps and if you want to stay afterwards join in with our wonderful, hard working library staff and march in the parade behind our mobile library. Remember children will need to be accompanied by an adult

The community group that has been operating a foodbank out of an industrial unit in Anzac Road in Browns Bay has just been given two weeks notice. They are given significant food from our local supermarkets. If you can help them please provide a base for a couple of hours each day please contact me.
People we are in the last days now of the local body elections. The turnout to date has been extremely low. For some reason most of my East Coast Bays flyers for the Council position have not been delivered by New Zealand Post while some households in Upper Harbour have received two. Here's a copy of my flyer in case you have not received it.
Please vote. Remember after today it is best to drop your completed forms into the libraries or council service centres.
