I had coffee with a girlfriend this morning and she asked about the process of making the earrings. After I explained it she said "OMG I feel like I should be paying you more now! I thought you just imported the pieces and put them together! you need to do a post explaining what is involved!" So here is a quick explanation of what I do!
First I draw the designs on paper and once I am satisfied with the design I then import it into a vector software programme (which I had to learn how to use before I started! One of the most frustrating things I have done recently!!!) Once it is in the programme it requires quite a lot more editing otherwise you would have lots of lumps and bumps on the outside of your earrings rather than smooth lines. Once I have completed editing each piece, I print them, cut them out and test that they are the right size and shape. Once I am completely happy I put the designs together like a jigsaw puzzle on a 300mm x 150mm page. This file is then sent to a company in Australia to put through the laser cutting machine. "why Australia?" I hear you ask - basically because they have a fantastic range of coloured acrylic (300 in fact!) and they specialise in cutting independently designed acrylic jewellery - so you get the best product! They arrive in a bag still with all of the bits attached, so I have to punch out all the holes etc and peel the coverings off both sides before I begin to assemble them. Posts and post fronts need to be sanded before they are glued, and some fronts need to be spray painted so they are no longer transparent. I also spray paint some of the pieces for a variety in colour and texture. I then assemble them which is the quickest bit and the most satisfying as all of a sudden, after weeks of preparation, I have earrings completed!

These are all my designs, each one has been hand drawn and put together by me, the only part I am not involved in is the bit that the laser cutting machine does. I hope this helps to give an idea of the process!
