Emily's Piano Academy
Emily's private piano music school Hello! My name is Emily and welcome to my page. At the age of four I started my piano journey.
I am a classically trained piano player currently studying level nine with the Royal Conservatory Of Music. My older sister was taking lessons and I was impressed with how beautifully she played, I wanted to be just like her. Eventually came time for college and music was my passion. Piano was the one thing that I always went back to, so I decided to make a career out of it. For three years I stud
Tips when purchasing a piano!
Hello Everyone,
Today we will be looking at some crucial things to consider when purchasing a piano!
🎶The Keys🎶
👉Weighted keys are must, they help the pianist build finger strength which enhances technical ability. They also offer a more athuntic feel and allow for better dynamics.
👉The number of keys you want on the piano is 88. 88 allows the pianist to play each note as written by the composer and ensure no limitations.
🎶Acoustic Piano🎶
👉Acoustics require tuning. New acoustics will require more frequent tuning, overtime the frequency will reduce.
👉Weight, acoustics are quite heavy, professional piano movers exist for a reason.
👉Location, acoustic pianos must be placed against an inner wall, away from direct sunlight, windows, doors and vents. This is to protect the internal components of the piano.
🎶Electric Piano🎶
👉Electric pianos only require maintenance if they are damaged.
👉Weight, much lighter.
👉Location, must be close to an electrical outlet.
🎶Polyphony🎶
👉Polyphony refers to the maximum number of notes that a keyboard can produce at one time. The good polyphony number is 64 or higher.
🎶Where To Buy🎶
There are so many places that have great options for purchasing and financing pianos.
👉Long & McQuade - They have three great options: buy new, buy used, and rent to own. I would recommend going here. They have a decent selection with experts which can help you find the perfect piano for you.
👉 Cosmos Music - This is where I purchased my piano. Located in Vaughan, they feature a piano loft which has dozens of pianos ranging in price. They have an option to buy or finance with Desjardins at 0% interest for 12 months! For an extra $200 they will have the piano delivered and assembled to your home. Both of these options I have taken advantage of.
👉 Kijiji, ebay, facebook market place- Although convenient, I would highly recommend NOT purchasing a piano from these three places. There is a high chance if internal damage to the instrument. Also, if you are new to buying a piano you may not realize what is damaged. I’ve heard of stories where something was purchased and only when they got home, did they learn that it was broken. I’m sure there may be some that are honest and working, however it is a big chance.
Hope this helps! Comment any questions below.

Hi Folks,
In this post today I will be talking about some 🔑 key🔑 notes when signing a potential student up for 🎶piano🎶 lessons! Hopefully these tips can help you better understand the process and be prepared to reach out when it’s time to sign up.
📆SEPTEMBER & JANUARY📆
Those are the best times to contact a teacher about starting lessons. Like the school year, piano teachers tend to run on terms too. This doesn’t mean that they won’t have a spot available during other times of the year, but this is generally the time they make their schedule. Your request for days and times might be more available.
🎹PIANO IN THE HOME🎹
That’s right, before enrolling the potential student in piano lessons, be sure that there is a piano or keyboard in the 🏠home🏠. It is expected that the student will practice 5️⃣ times a week, so this is key. Without a piano or keyboard, progress will be slower.
🔉TALK TO THE STUDENT🔊
Before contacting a teacher, ensure that the potential student does want to take lessons. It is highly likely that if the 🍎teacher🍎 has spots available they can give you a time and day right away. But that spot most likely won’t be held.
