The Impact of Limiting Beliefs on Life Experience and Mental Health 22/11/2023

What mental blocks are holding you back? 🔎

Visit www.ladsarmy.co.nz for more!

The Impact of Limiting Beliefs on Life Experience and Mental Health Our beliefs shape the lens through which we perceive the world, influencing our thoughts, emotions, and actions. However, when these beliefs become limiting, they can significantly impact our experience of life and mental well-being. Limiting beliefs are deeply ingrained convictions that hold us bac...

Sharing our stories helps us heal and inspires others to open up and overcome fear. Look after each other, encourage each other 🙏🏼

"....I’ve always been a people pleaser – at school, at home, at work and it got to the point where I slowly lost touch with myself. I was always doing what everyone else wanted and being who everyone else wanted me to be.
Most of the time I was unhappy and struggled to keep myself together, especially around other people.
One night after work my mind just went crazy. I was thinking about my life and how horrible it is. It was so intense. I was so full of fear and dread. My vision went blurry and I fell to the ground.
The day after my panic attack I took a week off work to try to sort myself out. I was so sick of feeling like s**t all the time and needed to find a way out or else things would only have gotten worse.
My mates helped me get to a therapist and that changed things for me. That was probably one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
So I quit my job and now I’ve changed career paths and I’m on track to achieving my goals.
I was always one of those guys who pushed aside any talk of mental health because I thought I was immune to it and that my personal problems were created by the outside world. This was a completely backwards perspective lol.
The best advice for me personally was to ‘own your vision’ and ‘stay in your own lane’. Don’t worry about anyone else - or else you’ll suffer.
I try to journal once a week and I’ve tried to get into meditation – I’ve seen massive benefits from that recently.
It is so important for us lads to speak up about our challenges and our story. It’s like an instant release when you express your struggles to others. This also encourages them to speak up too. If you aren’t ready to talk to anyone, just write down what’s going on in your world. Get your thoughts on paper, you will feel so much better about yourself and your life."

Real stories, real lads. Sharing and normalising struggle so that we can all learn and grow together!

Wake Up, It's Time To Change Most days I couldn’t think of many things to be excited about. I often found myself just going through the motions and feeling trapped within myself. I knew I was depressed. My thinking was always negative and based out of fear which always led me to hide in my shell and stay sheltered most of the...

How To: Be Nice to Yourself (For A Change) 08/03/2022

"Investing time in yourself is the best investment you'll ever make"

How To: Be Nice to Yourself (For A Change) Whether we realise it or not, a lot of us are our own worst enemy specifically how we see ourselves and how we think about ourselves (self talk). Our self image needs to be improved if we want a shot at levelling up and moving towards the things we want in life. The road to self acceptance takes eff...

Living and Learning on the Farm and in the Community 05/03/2022

To change the attitude toward mental health we need to start sharing our stories openly and understand the immense value of doing so. Here is a story of struggle, learning in a community and rising up to new challenges.

Living and Learning on the Farm and in the Community The wheels came off at the worst possible time, I had exams coming up and my whole future I needed to sort out. I got in my car and drove off. I desperately wanted to escape. It was during the week of my 20th birthday where I properly experienced and understood depression and anxiety. My head was ra...

Welcome to Lads Army, a new approach to mental well-being.
Lads Army is a support system which encourages others to share their stories and break the ice on mental health discussions with friends, whanau, work mates and neighbours. We lead by example by coordinating and running several of our own support groups. By sharing our struggles we overcome fear, feel empowered and understand the importance of helping others do the same.

The mental health situation of men in New Zealand is declining. But as every cloud has a silver lining, we discovered an opportunity at the heart of the problem; to create a community dedicated to reaching out to men, encouraging them to speak up and creating safe spaces where they can share their stories.

Lads Army is a down to earth 'Lad-to-lad' approach, eliminating barriers of discomfort which prevent men from opening up. We have no leaders and no followers, just empowered individuals changing the attitude toward mental health.

Too often we suffer in silence and don't understand the true value of speaking up and sharing our story. Opening up to others not only feels amazing but also encourages others to do the same.

We've found that the strongest connections are made through sharing and relating to stories of struggle with our mates.

Our message is this; share your story, support your mates and live a better life!
