💗👚 Today is Pink Shirt Day - the day Aotearoa comes together to take a stand against bullying in schools and the workplace.

This global movement is dedicated to promoting kindness, empathy, and diversity. The Mackersy Property team showed our support by wearing pink to the office and coming together for an ice cream afternoon tea! 🍦🍨

Let's stand together against bullying and discrimination!

Today is World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day - a global day to celebrate the uniqueness and unity of the international Red Cross Movement.

A part of the Red Cross movement is Meals on Wheels - a meal delivery service that helps provide a healthy meal every weekday to people around Aotearoa New Zealand. In the last year, over 700,000 meals were delivered.

At Mackersy Property, one of our focuses is on improving the communities we live and work in. Here in Tauranga, we take part in Meals on Wheels deliveries, enabling us to get out into the community, meet some great people, and hopefully put a smile on someone's face!

There is currently a shortage of Meals on Wheels drivers in Aotearoa, so if anyone is thinking about taking part, it’s a worthy cause and very fulfilling to be able to help others in need.

⭐️🏢 Some Good News

Congratulations to Mackersy Property Facilities Manager Richard Griffiths and TM Consultants Ltd for achieving a 4.5-star NABERS rating for 14 Show Place, Christchurch!

NABERS is a system for rating the energy efficiency of office buildings, providing a rating from one to six stars. This helps building owners understand their building’s performance versus other similar buildings, providing a benchmark for progress.

Having a NABERS rating is beneficial to both owner and tenant, as it is a systematic, proven, cost-effective tool that ensures the building is performing at a high standard. Energy efficient buildings reduce operating costs and many efficiency upgrades cost very little and deliver permanent savings.

What a great result team, well done!

🥇 Congratulations to Freestyle Skier, Ben Richards!

Mackersy Property's first recipient of our Emerging Athlete Scholarship, Wanaka local Ben Richards, won gold in the 2024 Fieberbrunn Pro in Austria yesterday.

Ben is a Rookie on the Freeride World Tour (FWT) for the 23/24 season, taking his first victory on the Pro Tour with the fastest run of the day. His run was full of serious airtime, most notably a 360 on top of the ever-impressive Häusl Cliff in his second attempt of the day.

The competition took place on the well-known Wildseeloder, a face that gained its reputation among the FWT classics due to its steepness, long vertical drop, and seemingly endless selection of gnarly lines. With a drop of 583m and an average gradient of 48°, this venue never fails to deliver an incredible show. And an incredible show it was!

Check out Ben's amazing victory below!

Today marks one year since Cyclone Gabrielle battered down on the Hawke's Bay and Tairawhiti (Gisborne).

Last year, the team at Mackersy Property set out on a fundraising mission called ‘Grunt for Gabrielle’, to raise funds for the Hawke's Bay Regional Council and Gisborne District Council.

The Grunt for Gabrielle was a unique 12-hour endurance event in Arrowtown, Mt Maunganui & Christchurch, to raise as much money as possible while combining our kilometres to cover the 1,640km gap between Queenstown and Gisborne.

Across those three locations, the Mackersy Property team, plus supporters and local businesses, covered 2,103.3km and everyone's support helped us to raise $27,376.30. We want to say a huge thank you to everyone who donated and supported us on that massive challenge!

With their donation funds, the Hawke's Bay Regional Council has so far restored vital infrastructure and are working hard to support their community, and looking to the future and how they can build environmental resilience to major climate events. Their funding is based on community interventions to move and keep properties out of category 2, and reduce the number of category 3 properties.

Donations to the Gisborne District Council have been prioritised for recovery to address the immediate needs of affected communities, by repairing and exploring resilience options for damaged infrastructure and implement mitigation measures to reduce risks from future weather events. A recovery plan will focus on 4 key environments - built, natural, economic and social.

An exciting delivery has arrived at Mackersy Property's Queenstown office!

Molly Marsh (Otago Polytech) won the Mataura Licensing Trust Award of Excellence and the Mackersy Property Collections Award, for the below ensemble.

Molly’s winning collection, made up of three garments including a large ball-shaped bag, a racquet and a jacket made of turf, was inspired by tennis games during the long, hot Central Otago summers.

Her designs wowed the judges via the strong, exaggerated theme that was beautifully made and provoked the desire to touch, and we now get to proudly display these pieces in our head office!

Entries for the Hokonui Fashion Design Awards for 2024 are now open.

📢 TENANT SPOTLIGHT - RAD Bikes Community Bike Workshop

We have received some nice feedback from one of our new tenants, RAD Bikes (Recycle a Dunger), that has recently gone into one of the vacant spaces in Christchurch. They were placed through the Life in Vacant Spaces (LiVS) programme, as the space had been vacant for over two years.

It's great to partner with organisations such as LiVS, so we can help breathe life into vacant spaces throughout the city. We can't wait to see how RAD Bikes goes!

On Tuesday this week, the Christchurch office volunteered their time to lay bark at Ngutuawa School, in Woolston, Christchurch.

Facilitated with the help of the Rotary Club of Christchurch Sunrise and their president and former MP team member Dale Robertson, the team took part in laying bark around the gardens at the school.

Ngutuawa School (formally Bamford School) was rebuilt following the Christchurch earthquakes, but have struggled with funding for even the most basic facilities and resources.

Mackersy Property’s Christchurch office have been proud to partner with the Sunrise Rotary club to help on this gardening project to create some sustainable and picturesque spaces for the school and its community.

One of Mackersy Property’s focuses is on improving the communities we live and work in, and each year, our team donate half a day of our time to a local community cause.

Last week the Queenstown MP team spent Thursday afternoon at Tucker Beach, mulching and weeding around nearly 5,000 native trees to support their growth and rebuild the amazing area.

The Tucker Beach Wildlife Reserve covers 150 hectares of Department of Conservation land, straddling a large bend in the Lower Shotover River. The Friends of Tucker Beach group has a native tree planting project, to support the restoration of the area.

Well done to the QT crew!

Mackersy Property's Christchurch team recently volunteered to help with the preparation for the Special Children's Christmas Parties NZ. The Canterbury party was held on the 18th November this year, for 1,800 special kids.

These Christmas and extravaganza parties are thrown for special children who live with life threatening illness, physical or intellectual impairment, domestic violence, or in underprivileged circumstances.

The aim is to see children happy and beaming with smiles for a day, regardless of the challenges they’re experiencing in life. It’s a day to help them forget everything else that’s going on.

These magical Christmas events throughout New Zealand have been happening since 1998 and extravaganzas since 2005. In that time, there have been 140 parties, 7,000 volunteers and 190,000 smiles!

Well done Christchurch team for helping out on such an amazing cause!

Wishing a warm welcome to one of our new tenants, Curious Minds Early Learning Queenstown.

Based in Five Mile, the childcare centre caters for children aged six months to six years, with three learning spaces and a private sunny outdoor play area. The centre has capacity for 82 kids.

The family-owned business is new to the district, but the tenants have been operating in the sector for over 21 years and have three boutique facilities in Wellington.

Welcome to the family!

Unlocking Wealth: Why Commercial Property Investment Outshines Bonds… 07/11/2023

📣 Opinion Piece

When it comes to wealth management and financial planning in New Zealand, investors have traditionally leaned on safe, low-risk options like bonds and term deposits, with a lesser group opting for riskier investments in the hope of greater gains.

With the current economic headwinds, bonds and term deposits are once again the favourite “dependable” option for investors. However, as the economic tables turn, savvy investors will increasingly be turning their attention to commercial property investment.

In this opinion piece, Omea Willows, Director, Investor Relations and Operations, explores why commercial property investment offers distinct advantages over bonds and term deposits in New Zealand.

One of Mackersy Property’s focuses is on improving the communities we live and work in, and each year, our team donate half a day of our time to a local community cause.

Recently, our Dunedin MP team volunteered some time to one of the wrap around services The Salvation Army New Zealand, Fiji, Tonga and Samoa Territory offer to thousands of Kiwis, The Dunedin Salvation Army Food Bank.

The FoodBank Project was created in 2015, giving people across New Zealand a way to donate much needed food and grocery items to The Salvation Army.

When people go to their foodbank seeking support, they are able to use donations in food parcels, along with other essential items, plus gaining long-term support like budgeting advice to help get them through the tough times they're facing.

The Salvation Army Foodbank provides food parcels to people at times when they need it the most. “It was a humbling experience to collaborate with the Salvation Army and work alongside the Food bank team. We look forward to our involvement with the Xmas Can Appeal 2023.” – Anita, MP.

Well done to the Dunedin crew!

📢TENANT SPOTLIGHT - Escea Fireplace Company

Congratulations to one of our Dunedin tenants, fireplace designer and manufacturer Escea, who have won three awards at the New Zealand Best Design Awards!

Escea’s not-for-profit initiative 'Fire for Life' won the gold and prestigious purple award in the Public Good category, and a gold award in the Non-Consumer product category.

The Escea team developed a portable, lightweight stove that is then flat-packed and shipped to international humanitarian organisation, ReliefAid, in Syria. They are then assembled and distributed to refugees living in displacement camps, all the while providing income for locals.

One of the biggest issues faced by families was the cost and access to fuel. The aim of the project was to solve the problems of open-fire cooking in camps by supplying families with efficient stoves that were designed to use less fuel, cook faster, were transportable and produced less smoke.

Amazing work team, congratulations on all your hard work!

One of Mackersy Property’s focuses is on improving the communities we live and work in, and each year, our team donate half a day of our time to a local community cause.

This week, the Tauranga team decided to donate their time to Coast Care Bay of Plenty Regional Council (BOPRC), a coastal restoration programme that aims to restore and protect the sand dunes along our Bay of Plenty beaches.

The BOPRC supplied all the plants and tools, and MP got stuck in and planted 288 pingāo and spinifex plants along the Papamoa sand dunes! The plantings will speed up the natural rebuilding of the sand dunes following erosion events associated with the late summer storms.

It was a great afternoon spent out of the office and in the sunshine, having a bit of team building time while also giving back to nature for a worthy cause. It was amazing to see the progress made to the sand dunes once we were done!

Well done Tauranga team!
