It’s with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Grant Knuckey. Grant has been a long standing member of our Labour movement and has been a member of our Executive Board since March this year.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family at this time.

As soon as we have the details for his memorial service, we will let you all know.

Cost should not be a barrier to contraception. National is out of touch with reality for many women.
Chosing when, and if, to have a child should be a fundamental right, and this kind of announcement from National is chilling.

Chris Bishop talked a big game about National’s tenancy policy, but turns out not all was as it seems 😂. No one can find the charity who told him bring back no-cause evictions.

Meanwhile we're delivering a plan to tackle the housing crisis and support affordable rents, by building more houses and delivering changes to the Residential Tenancies Act to provide secure tenure to the hundreds of thousands of people who are renting. The exact law National want to gut.

Meet the new New Zealand Labour Party candidate for Wellington Central, Ibrahim Omer MP . He was selected today from an exceptional field of candidates. Ibrahim's story of courage, determination and heart is extraordinary. From escaping Eritrea, to a refugee camp in Sudan, to coming to New Zealand, working as a cleaner at Vic Uni, then getting a degree, becoming a union organiser and then an MP.

I could not be more proud of my friend. I first met him in 2014 when he came doorknocking on my campaign that year. As he said today he might not have started life here, but Wellington is his home. He will be a great MP for Wellington Central, and with your help he will get there.

Here is Ibrahim's maiden speech from 2020 if you want to hear more about his story. https://vimeo.com/483858326

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we share the sad news that Georgina Beyer, the world’s first openly transgender MP, national taonga, former Mayor of Carterton, Labour MP, activist, and rainbow legend, passed away peacefully at Mary Potter Hospice, today March 6 at 3.30pm.

Farewell Georgina. Your love, compassion and all that you have done for our country and for the Rainbow & many other communities will live on for ever.

Rest in peace.

We know rural communities have been hit hard by the recent extreme weather events, which is why we’ve moved quickly to provide support with the initial stages of the recovery. This includes:

- $25 million in grants to support farmers and growers

- Support for growers to remove silt from trees and minimise losses

- Grants for farmers to help initial recovery on-farm

This is not the end of the support we’ll be providing. We’re committed to working with people on the ground, the primary sector, and the business community to ensure we can rebound strongly from Cyclone Gabrielle.

Today, we’ve taken another step to ensure Kiwis are paying a fairer price at the pump.

We know current global fuel prices are adding pressure to families’ budgets.

That’s why we’re giving the Commerce Commission the power to step in and set fair petrol and diesel prices if needed. We’re also moving back the deadline for companies to include biofuels in their supplies, to ensure consumers aren’t facing extra potential costs during the current cost of living crisis.

This is on top of the actions we’ve already taken to ease cost pressures for New Zealanders, including extending our fuel tax cut, reduced road user charges and half price public transport until January 2023.

Labour have been, and will always be, the Party that stands up for workers' rights.

From reintroducing the right to tea breaks that the last National government scrapped, to the introduction of a new, uniquely Kiwi public holiday, Matariki, we'll make sure hard working families across the country get the breaks they deserve.

Christopher Luxon and the National Party on the other hand? Earlier this year, they said they wanted to scrap Labour Day.

But you can rest assured, under this Government your public holidays and hard earned breaks will be protected.

This morning, Chris Luxon doubled down on his UK-style tax plan. British PM Liz Truss’ version saw the UK economy go into meltdown - and she was forced to U-turn to save the economy from collapse.

Three billion dollars of tax cuts for the very richest New Zealanders and housing speculators is unbelievably dangerous. It would drive up interest rates, add debt - and risk market turmoil like we’ve seen in the UK.

Chris Luxon and Nicola Willis need to read the room - and the global environment - and follow the lead of Liz Truss and reverse this ideological economic plan.

This week, we passed legislation to end the practice of live exports by sea, further strengthening New Zealand's hard-earned reputation around the world for ethical high-quality animal protein and fibre. This decision will help protect our reputation into the future.

Today marks five years since Jacinda Ardern was elected Leader of the New Zealand Labour Party.

Throughout these five years, Jacinda has navigated New Zealand through unprecedented times. From the tough calls she made to protect the nation’s health to her work on lifting incomes and supporting families, we’re proud to have her at the helm ❤️

While abroad last week, Chris Luxon spoke at an event where he said New Zealand businesses are ‘getting soft’.

Today, he was asked by Susie Ferguson on Radio New Zealand five times why he made those comments - and five times he couldn't answer.
