What’s in the box??? 3 guesses 🤔
For those of you that are sick of hearing me banging on about my assignment it’s finally finished!!!! A very interesting critique of research about horse rider position and how Pilates can help, so guess what? We should all do it! 😂😂💪💪 Now I get 2 months of freedom before the next slog begins 🤓🤓🤓
So proud of all my amazing clients who I had the pleasure of watching compete at Takapoto this weekend! Quite a line up!!! Who said horses can't dance!!!
I am very proud and privileged to be the manager for the Dressage Waitemata Development Squad and our new squad has just turned over for the new season. Last year was the first year and we were fortunate to have the most incredible group of riders in the squad who set goals and achieved over and above those with an attitude of positivity and impulsion! I’m excited to have a great journey again with our new group of awesome riders. Being a human and equine physio this is a fabulous opportunity to help riders on their journey with super cool clinics ranging from sports psychology, equine behaviour, nutrition, protocol days, rider biomechanics, the list goes on!!! The squad success relies on the support of the riders which we are very lucky for them to be participating in behind the scenes activities and to Christine Latch for wingman duties who is the driver of this initiative. I just love progression and this brings me closer to so many inspiration people in our industry. Just awesome!!! 👏👏👏

Dressage Waitemata are launching an exciting opportunity to join their new development squad! This is a new initiative designed to enhance dressage riders journey through the levels to become an accomplished rider to the best of their ability and advance through the grades. I am fortunate enough to be the team manager which is such an exciting opportunity for me to assist the riders within the squad. Applications are now open to Dressage Waitemata members so I encourage anyone who feels they want to take on this opportunity to apply. This is open to all riders from preliminary to advanced level!
Equestrian Physio Pilates classes starting soon!!
I’m going to be starting a weekly class for riders in a few weeks time at Waimauku most likely on a Thursday lunchtime. Will be BYO mat and Swiss ball.
This will cover lots of stretches and strengthening focusing on body symmetry which will make you all stronger and straighter in the saddle!
I have a list of interested people so message me if you are keen so I have an idea of numbers!
I love my job! Being a physiotherapist really is so rewarding! I love helping people, and I love helping horses! One of my gorgeous horse patients has had a sore back on one side for a while. During his assessment it was ascertained that the saddle fitter had suggested the rider had a leg length discrepancy and sat to one side. We decided as well as treating the back pain in the horse that checking out the symmetry of the rider was also crucial, so once the back was feeling better I assessed the rider on board. The horse was resistant with a high head carriage and stepping a bit short behind. The rider was collapsing to one side and compensating by leaning her body to the opposite side and hitching her shoulder. After assessing her pelvic and hip strength and a activating weak muscle groups the horse was soft and forward and was a lot more comfortable. A very happy rider and horse!! And a very happy physio with the best job satisfaction ❤️❤️❤️

Not only does the horse need physio but it’s just as important that the rider symmetry is also addressed. This can be done with a ridden assessment and subsequent physiotherapy techniques to help the rider achieve balance in their body which often comes from the pelvis. On-site sessions available on request and human physiotherapy sessions available at Muriwai.
Lockdown gets more exciting by the day..😂
How important is the Poll in your horses posture?
“The small muscles that connect the head to the neck are critically important for postural information— they contain 500x the density of muscle spindle cells compared to limb muscles. Afferent (towards the brain) information from this region is so critically important that there is not even a dermatome (skin sensory segment) associated with the C1 nerve— all of the afferents go to postural control. “ - Dr Gellman
