Ōpaki School
Ōpaki School is 5 minutes north of Masterton and caters for Year 0 to 8 students.
All Netball games cancelled today, Tuesday 2nd July. Stay warm 🔥
We have left over soup from our Matariki Celebrations last night. It is delicious. If you would like some, please come to school with a container before 3pm today.
Here is a sneak peek at what we have set up for tonight. So far the weather is holding!
Our Matariki Celebration is ON tonight. Feel free to arrive from 4:30pm. Come along with your own cup for some free soup and a sausage sizzle. At 6pm we have our Kapa Haka rōpū (group) performing which will conclude our evening.
We are looking forward to you being able to wander through classes, view your child's mahi (work) and catch up with the community. We also have Levitate Coffee Cart selling hot drinks, Tipu selling worm wees and plants and the opportunity for community consultation.
A huge thank you to Joe Potangaroa for the video footage that will shown in classrooms, Gary Allan for the use of the Eastwood Motor Group BBQ, Janeen Cross and the Hospital Māori Health Directorate Team for the pumpkins and onions, Mākoura College and Whaea Shari for your tutoring of our Kapa Haka Rōpū, Festival Hire for your ongoing support of our school events, G.J. Gardner who recently donated a gazebo for school to use, The Friends of Ōpaki Committee, our Ōpaki School Board of Trustees for funding the sausage sizzle and soup ingredients and also to our entire school community, staff and students. We are looking forward to seeing you this afternoon from 4:30pm. Dress warm - it is cold!
Please be mindful that there is limited parking and cars get stuck easily on the grass verges. Please carpool where possible.
Kia ora,
Due to the weather we have decided to cancel netball practice this afternoon Wednesday 26th June for both the Year 5 Starblast team and the Year 5/6 Starburst team.
Stay dry and see you tonight at our Matariki celebrations.

We recently welcomed four new students to Tipu and one new student to Kahure West.
Welcome to Jack, Madison, Mia and Madeliene who all started in Tipu. Unfortunately Madeliene was unwell for our mihi whakatau.
We also welcome Demi who has started in Kahure West.
We hope you enjoy your time with us at Ōpaki. You’ve all made a great start.
Today we had John from Rotary Club visit our kura (school) to present dictionaries to our Year 4 students. They were very excited with one student telling me, “I’ve been waiting YEARS for one of these”.
A huge thank you to Rotary Club and also to John for taking the time to come and visit us today.
Photos from today's assembly.
Today we took two representatives to the Masterton Speech Finals. We are incredibly proud of Aoife and Hugo. Both spoke extremely well and both were also the first to speak for their year levels.
Hugo managed to secure a third place! He will now represent us at the Wairarapa competition next Tuesday evening.
Ka mau te wehi! (Awesome!)
Netball practice for Starblast Year 5 and Starburst Year 5/6 is cancelled today.
Amazing effort today from our kids, proud of all of you 🙌
Are you travelling theses holidays? The New Zealand Traveller Declaration is an online system that travellers can use to complete a declaration before they travel into New Zealand. The new digital system was launched in August 2023 and not many people know they can now do it online – replacing the paper card you used to fill out on the plane.
ALL Primary hockey is cancelled today (Friday 14th June)

Term 2 radio show was recorded this morning by our wonderfully talented radio show team from Aronui. Many Aronui students contributed to the content this term and I was especially proud of Isla, Donnacha, Cate, Jacob and Kamryn from Kahure who read their wonderful writing on air for the show, and to Koby and Freddie who played a piece of music they had been learning.
You can listen to the show:
Livewires at arrowfm 92.7fm every Thursday at 10am and again on Saturday at 4pm or you can go to
arrowfm.co.nz/programmes/
Scroll down to ‘Live Wires’ and select Ōpaki School, Term 2 from the playlist.
Thanks also to Veronika from Arrow FM 92.7FM for coming to school to record the students.
Well done team!
Ka pai for a great assembly 🌻

Today we celebrated our amazing support staff - we are extremely fortunate to have a wonderful team with a range of skills. Words are never enough, but thank you for all you do: Bonnie, Caroline, Sam, Anne, and Lesley. You all make a hugely positive impact on our school.
A great start to in Palmerston North today. An energising start and then Regan was selected to ask William Pike a question. An inspirational speaker who shows all of our AROHA values and more.
